NarWhal's is located right off of Cary, and they offer ice cream, smoothies, and rolled ice cream. We stopped by to grab a rolled ice cream to go - with a mix-in of strawberries and peaches; I did notice that the amount of fruit was particularly small, and the leafy parts of the strawberry stems were not snipped/cut out properly, which was then mixed into the ice cream. The portions were generous, but I felt the pricing was a little steep, considering the lack of ingredients. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and this is more of a to-go type of place. Parking can be found in the residential area. +friendly service
Came back on 1/20 after our last experience here with 1 other friend who had been here last time! A nice girl rang up our orders and took time making our orders. I got coffee with graham cracker, and she got strawberry and fruity pebbles. She was able to load the toppings up more and made our rolls pretty thick! The cups this time had been of a nice painted cardboard cup and the portion size was pretty equal to how it was last year! The owner was very genuine and did a great job of making the exchange smooth. The temperature in there was better than the last time as well, not running too hot for 24F outside. The flavors of the coffee and the strawberry were well distributed as she was very efficient in rolling our ice cream. The Ice cream is also more solid than last time making it a nice experience to end our day.
Delicious! The young lady behind the counter was friendly and worked hard to make my special sweet treat! I ate every bite! Thanks for spoiling me!

The texture of the rolled ice cream is so creamy, and the flavors are incredibly rich and well-balanced. I tried fruity pebbles and it was perfection in every bite. The toppings were fresh and generously applied, making it a true work of art. Not to mention, the portions are great for the price!
So on our week tour of RVA ice cream shops, we came across this one! Lawdy have mercy.....delicious!!!! Very clean and décor was amazing; all the colors were a complete vibe. The ice cream maker was very patient with us. This was our 1st time. This rolled ice was simply the best.....it was soooooo delicious. It was everything that you could imagine, and they made it cute for my kid and I. But mine came out a little wonky, which is OK. I still ate it! We strongly recommend and yes 10 out of 10, hands down please go and visit them quickly, quick fast and in a hurry. You will not be disappointed at all!!!! We love sweets, and ice cream is our favorite, and this is definitely a place we will be returning immediately. Babe missed out, so I will be returning tomorrow...... all smiles!!!!
Enjoyed some amazing ice cream from NarWhals tonight--for roughly $6, you can get the biggest "small" ice cream I've ever seen! How it works: the base ice cream flavor is vanilla, and with a small, you can choose two mix-ins (three for large-size) from about 15 different options (including candies, cookies, and fruit). Once it's rolled, you can choose to top the ice cream with whipped cream, chocolate chips, and several flavored syrups for free, and add premium toppings (more candy) for $0.50 each. It's a small storefront with only a couple of serving stations, so don't expect the fastest service if there's a line because each order is custom made right in front of you. Additionally, there is no seating inside or outside, so you'll have to eat standing up or find a porch to sit on if you want to eat your treat close by. Our server was very friendly, was made our experience even better! I would 100% return to NarWhals again for more ice cream!
This is my first time at NarWhals and it did not disappoint! The two staff were quick to answer my questions and explain the science behind how the ice cream is made. I got the small size (which is huge) with heath and Reese's cup, it was soooo good. My partner and I loved how thick the ice cream turned out and there was barely any melting so it lasted awhile. Our only complaint is no seating inside or outside, but there are some steps outside that we sat on and it worked fine!
For the price, I think this was decent ice cream (I got two smalls, which came out to around $20). The portion sizes were pretty good. The store is your standard ice cream shop. Cute and colorful. However, when I went, the store was understaffed, which impacted the customer experience. Only one person was working and she had to run the register and make the ice cream so it took 30 minutes for me to get my order.
Last night after dinner, we were trying to find a new ice cream shop to try. Narwhals popped up as a suggestion so we gave them a try. You get the option of regular or small and depending on which you pick, you get either 2 or 3 mix ins of your choice. They have cereals, candies, fruits, cookies, cakes, almost anything you can think of. We were greeted right away and one employee served us while the other helped the group in front of us so neither of us were waiting very long. They worked so quickly! My boyfriend got lucky charms, Reese's pieces, and m and M's. I got capn crunch and banana. When they finished rolling it, they let us pick from a list of toppings, a bunch of which were free. He chose caramel syrup while I chose whipped cream and strawberry syrup. Everything tasted so amazing! We were honestly surprised at how good everything tasted just because when we were watching them make it, it was cool but didn't look like much for ice cream. The place is a really cool shop that's got fun vibes to it. The counter has an icy texter to it and there's a huge mural along the whole wall. They also have a room for classes on how to make it. With how delicious it was and all the mix in options, we will definitely be back.

The facility is clean and well put together. The art within is very vibrant and welcoming. There are many toppings to choose from, the ice cream was delicious, and the price is reasonable. We would definitely recommend and return in the future.
This was so fun and soooo delicious! The mix-ins are brilliant, everything from Fruity Pebbles to peanut sauce to York patties. Street parking was easy to find too. If I lived here I would absolutely take the class with a friend (or a first date) I'm sure it's a good time. The only thing that prevents me from giving it 5 stars is that the base is always (delicious and rich) vanilla and I'm a chocoholic.

Walking through the streets of Richmond there was no shortage of options for ice cream, pastries, coffee, etc. NarWhals stuck out to me because of the spin on ice cream with the way they roll it with options for add-ins as well as the presentation. It was a slow weekday so we didn't wait for service. The person taking our order was nice and quick to take and make our order. I ordered a small cup with three toppings. I actually only wanted two as I thought three was a little too much for that small of a cup. My order was pretty simple with reeses and chocolate chips. Watching the order being made I quickly realized its alot of work making the rolled ice cream. I would estimate about four minutes per order and mine was pretty simple. And the guy making the order got a decent workout in with the amount of effort they have to put into making the order. The ice cream was really good. I don't know that it was so good to justify the wait for the order being made (if it were busy and there were multiple orders I could only imagine the wait). I enjoyed it and would definitely go back. read more
Seems really empty with typically only one staff member working, so it will take time to receive your order... However, the staff is super friendly and can answer how the ice cream is made! The flavors you pick definitely determine the thickness, but was really pleased with the peanut butter cups + Kit Kat combo. It's very cute inside with the mural. Wish there were smaller tables for seating. So this sweet treat might be more of an on-the-go. read more

This place is tiny! But the ice cream is fabulous. Vanilla ice cream is the base and then you can choose two to three mix-ins like Twix, fruity pebbles, health bar etc. then you can top it off with caramel, strawberry, chocolate or peanut sauce and whipped cream! It was really cool how they rolled the ice cream and it was delicious! I got the strawberry and Heath bar. Yum!! read more
I can't believe I haven't written a review of this place. My husband and I discovered this place when we had a date night and was walking around Cary Town. Th name is just so funny (cause Sprint did several commercials with NarWhals in them haha). This is the second rolled ice cream place I know in the RVA are (before I found out that Sweet Frog does it too?!). I ended up getting the oreo cookies and cream. Best freakin choice! It was big enough for both my husband and I to snack on before continuing on our walk. The way that they do it is pretty cool and the ending result was fabulous. (obviously, since it's freakin rolled ice-cream!) Def. a spot to try out in the Fan area! read more

OMG. Had never had rolled ice cream before visiting and so glad we came here! Forget the other overpriced places on the main road and come here. Prices are fair for the enormous amount of ice cream that you get. There may be a line because it's amazing and made specifically for each customer, but very cool to see the mixture come together and pick from such a wide variety of "mix ins." There's some outdoor seating and a few tables indoors. Definitely a great place to visit and a good, locally owned business to support! read more

this ice cream was really good, definitely a huge portion size, as it should be because it was kind of really expensive. there's also no where to sit inside so you just kind of have to fight for your life outside, which is really only bad if it's the dead of summer in our impending climate doomed world read more

I've been hearing some hype about their ice cream for a while so my boyfriend and I decided to add some ice cream to our evening stroll in the fan. There was a great variety of flavors to choose from and it was so entertaining to watch them Roll the ice cream. End result was so delicious! They can even chop up fresh fruit into the ice cream. read more

We were walking around Carytown one day and stumbled upon Narwhals Rolled Ice Cream. While ice cream may not be my favorite thing, ice cream in the shape of a log that is formed in front of you is, to say the least, exciting! I had ordered the blueberry pieces, strawberry sauce, and vanilla ice cream base as I was in a mood for something fruity, and my fiancee ordered cookies and cream. One of the most exciting parts is watching them make it right in front of you, and the staff was both fast and entertaining to watch. They really got into it and even drew a strawberry syrup narwhal, hah. The ice cream itself was good. I did find it a little sweet overall, but honestly it's probably my fault for getting syrup with fruit. I would love to go back and try the cookies and cream but unfortunately I was recently diagnosed with Celiac, so I'm not sure that's going to be possible. That said! It's a fun experience and I would definitely recommend it to someone looking for a new kind of ice cream experience! read more

What a cool place! I felt like a kid in a candy store. This was my first time here and I was impressed! The employees greeted us and explained the "process" as soon as we walked through the door. I got the fruity pebbles and blueberry mix ins with whipped cream and strawberry drizzle as toppings. It was DELISH!! Watching the make the rolled ice cream was the best part! I was amazed to say the least. I love that they offer games to play as you sit and enjoy your dessert. It's a very family friendly place and my kids LOVED it! Can't wait to go back! read more

I got a size regular with 3 toppings inside; i chose Twix, strawberry, and mint oreo. I had 2 toppings on top, banana and strawberry drizzle. THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST ICE CREAM I'VE EVER EATEN!!! 10/10 read more

The service was very friendly but the ice cream was pretty standard. It was essentially vanilla ice cream that they mixed different toppings into and rolled up. It tasted great but for the price, I was hoping that it would be a little more special. read more
