Everything we tried here was great. Can't wait to return to try the shaved ice. Employees were patient while the kiddos decided (no line). We will definitely be back.
Zen Cafe is my go to for boba in the Richmond area. Not only do they have consistently quality drinks, but the service is always friendly and welcoming. I've been back more times than I can count. I definitely recommend considering their seasonal drinks if you're looking to try something new.
I got the Pumpkin Thai with Boba($6). The boba was very fresh with it being warm and chewy. It did some time for the drinks to be made as there was a line, but eventually came out in 10 minutes. The Thai tea had a good sweetness ratio with pumpkin flavoring. Overall a very good boba spot that I will definitely come back to! Drink(50%): 8.7 Staff/service(25%): 7.5 Value(25%): 8.0 Overall: 8.2/10
When I tried boba for the first time when I was little, I was given honeydew milk tea, and I loved it. I always got honeydew milk tea until the shop we got it from closed. I haven't really gotten that flavor since then because most places don't have it. I was able to get it here, and it was so nostalgic. It was just the right flavor, and they're generous with their boba. I'll be back to try their other flavors :)
This is a sea salt coffee with Oreo crumbles absolute 10/10!!!the service in atmosphere is always fantastic we love coming here for breakfast on weekends!!

There are so many places to get bubble teas these days but this one remains to be our favorite. They have great flavor options with a variety of toppings to keep it interesting. Look at how pretty our drinks are! Left one is the mint chocolate slushy with milk cap; right one is the mango splashy with popping strawberry boba. These definitely put a smile on my daughter! Oh my daughter thinks their shaved ice is the best in town.

The shaved snow is amazing and hard to come by in the area! The portion is generous. You can pick 1-2 flavors, 2 toppings, and a drizzle. The shaved snow is creamy and melts in your mouth. There is no icy texture. Apparently they freeze the flavors in blocks ahead of time so they can shave it when ordered, which is so smart. We were wondering how the orders were prepared so fast. Because of the texture it melts pretty quickly so I would recommend eating it there. They have a few tables inside. Our group stayed and chatted for awhile and we felt welcome. Can't wait to come back, I'm already craving another bowl!

Other places I've tried around the area had cute toppings and presentation but coarser ice which was disappointing. We also ordered a lychee slush which was refreshing and oolong tea with pearls at 25 percent sugar and no ice. The guy at the counter was patient when I was considering all the options. There were some places inside to sit as well as outside but it was pretty hot and humid so we chose to stay indoors. All in all a nice summer and July 4th weekend treat!
I'm glad to see another boba shop open up in the Richmond area that isn't a big franchise. I tried the Earl Grey Milk Tea with pearls. It had a great flavor - though the pearls were a lot more bland than I am used to. Nonetheless, it was still good and I will definitely be returning to try the shaved ice desserts! Super convenient location in the West End with ample parking. A must try if you're near the area!
Zen Cafe Treats is amazing. The energy, the atmosphere, the customer service as well. From their milk teas, with options for less sugar, to their shaved snow with oat milk choices, this hidden gem makes me smile. On my recent visit I tried shaved snow for the second time. I got a two flavor bowl: taro and honeydew topped with custard pudding, which tasted a bit like a Thai iced tea, and red beans, which have a subtle sweetness and very slight bean taste which in no way disturbed the snow flavors. It's worth the find and the price!

This was our first time here during 100 degree heat wave. It hit the spot with refreshing "bingsu" like dessert. Very refreshing and the milk tea was on point! This place will be one of our frequent stops!
This place is a hidden gem. I randomly tried the sea salt Vietnamese coffee with cold foam and been obsessed since then. The flavor is extremely strong but the sea salt cold foam balances it out. Like it's the perfect amount of caffeine to keep you alert but it isn't that strong that will not make you sleep at night. The drink costed me $6.63 which is a good amount in today's economy. The workers there are sweet. The place is tiny so only 2 tables and then a highs eating bar like table connected to the wall. this is my coffee to go! A great stop for a sweet asian treat! I got the shaved snow (two flavors) with pandan and taro snow, and mochi, bubble tea, and a condensed milk drizzle. It was refreshing and not too sweet, and a nice chew from the mochi and boba! The workers were super friendly, helping us decide what to get. It's a bright cheery space and a perfect dessert spot! read more

So glad to see that Zen moved closer to the West End! We have a great collection of boba and bingsoo places now, which is great to see. Zen's quality is really great too- you can tell that their tea is brewed fresh (it's so strong), they have a multitude of toppings, and their bingsoo is such value for the price. I can't wait to come back and get bingsoo all the time! It reminds me of Snocream in Annandale, really happy to see Asian cafes spreading. read more

Zen Cafe Treats Ratings: 4.2/5 Food: 4.5/5 - My sister had been hyping up about the Chrysanthemum milk tea here at Zen Cafe, and I decided to try it out with my boyfriend and her when he was visiting RVA. Thumbs up to them for serving great drinks and decent shaved ice desserts. See the description on how tasty the milk tea was below. - Chrysanthemum Milk Tea [GET]: A new and interesting milk tea, and I really like it. It got a very subtle Chrysanthemum tea flavor after each sip; it's refreshing and cooling, not heavy or overwhelming at all. Reminds me of the tea we get at dim sum, but got a fusion twist to it. I got it with tapioca and crystal bubbles, because I was sharing it with my boyfriend. The toppings are delicious, bubbles are cooked just right with a perfect texture. It was al dente and chewy, and crystal boba got a nice jelly chew to it too. My favorite thing about this drink is that it's not too overly sweet. Ambiance: 4.25/5 - Located in the same building as New Grand Mart supermarket and kind of tuck away in a corner. Interior is clean, bright, and spacious, a great spot to chill with friends or even study. There's a limited amount of tables and chairs available though, probably only fits 2 groups at most. It is a pretty Instagram-able place, well decorated and cute. One of the top Boba shops in RVA in terms of design, ambiance, and a lot quiet and calm compared to Brecotea across the street. Price: 4/5 - The large Chrysanthemum Milk is $5.75 and each additional toppings are $0.75 each, so I got tapioca and crystal boba too. The total came up to be around $8 after tax, which is reasonable, because I got two toppings but definitely worth the visit. It's delicious. Service: 4/5 - Staffs are welcoming and kind. Typical customer service you will receive at any particular Boba shops. They greeted us when we walked in, and ordering process was seamless and effortless. The drinks came out fairly quick too, all within 15 minutes. BLUF: A good addition to the Boba scenes in RVA. Zen Cafe is one of my top Boba place, because of their Chrysanthemum milk tea, and I highly recommend trying it out if you haven't. Get the large too, because the medium size is quite small. An unexpected treat and Boba trip, but will return when I am back in Richmond! read more

Omg best shaved snow in Richmond!! I love that it was a good size and it came with two toppings and a drizzle, and it was for a good price too. Pudding is my favorite topping, not to be slept on. The mochi is so yummy too. The honeydew flavor in the ice came through so well too!! I'll have to try pandan flavor next time :P See y'all again soon! read more

10/10 experience. They use lactose fre milk for all you lactose intolerant folks. Really great place to chill and relax and even study if you'd like to. The staff us super welcoming and friendly any day you walk in. I got the winter melon green tea tea and it was amazing! Fresh and high quality ingredients. Thr atmosphere is super instagamable as well so if you're looking for photospot here's the place! The bathroom is also super clean and well decorated as well. Best choice to go to especially on a hot summer day. read more
I got their pandan flavor w/mochi, herbal jelly, and condensed milk drizzle and it was everything I needed and more. I love the selection of flavors and toppings they have. The toppings taste fresh and their shaved snows are so good and always come out so creamy. You can even opt for oat milk for some of their flavors to make it dairy free! If you're like me and want two toppings but don't wanna commit to a standard bowl of shaved snow, get the mini and buy an additional topping! It will be cheaper than the standard one flavor price. I also really recommend getting the condensed milk drizzle, it takes the bowl to the next level. read more

So thankful that a friend recommended Zen Cafe to cater the boba bar for our daughter's engagement party! Brandon was professional, on-time and attentive. My daughter and fiancée even had a tasting there beforehand and selected three types of teas (oolong milk tea and taro with the tapioca boba and white peach tea with aloe vera jelly). Brandon delivered teas in disposable gallon containers, provided plenty of boba and jelly, and gave great instructions so that the tapioca boba wouldn't harden or stick (put it in a crock pot on low and stir occasionally). He brought extra ice, straws, cups and slotted ladles and provided instructions for making the perfect bubble teas. It was such a relief since I'm not a boba drinker and wasn't sure how to make this work. It was a hit with so many compliments. Even the most particular boba drinkers enjoyed it. Super thankful and definitely recommend them to anyone considering hosting a party with a boba bar. read more

New boba spot to go to!! We have only tried two flavors so far . The brown sugar and Thai tea , both were good. I was only sad by the size of their medium cups which could be mistaken for a small size. Coming back soon read more
