He was frantic about the money and rude (minus 1 star). He did a good job, on the actual fence. I wouldn't use him again.

I do value professionalism and courtesy, so I hired Alex to do a one-day project, installing picture moulding in 10 rooms. Alex did a great job with that, so I hired him to do a 3 week project that included demolition, construction, planning, inspections, dealing with difficult neighbors, the whole 9 yards. And guess what: the project turned out great. All 5 projects Alex has done for me have come in on budget (one came in substantially under budget), all were done on time (within the constraints of the weather), the finished work was always top notch, and the price was reasonable. When Alex shows up to do the job, he usually brings his assistant Jeff, and the two of them work the job in a quiet, efficient, and thoughtful way. When they find something they weren't expecting, they talk about it. They go over their options. They ask for the owner's input if it is appropriate. They pick a course and they follow it. They get work done efficiently, but never in a hurried or sloppy way. Alex's communicates well, his bills and estimates make sense, he is responsible, and guess what else: courteous and professional. Jeff is about as nice and easy going a guy as you'll ever meet. All the subcontractors Alex has brought into my house have been professionals. Alex made sure that when subcontractors came in to my house to do work, they already knew exactly what they were supposed to do, because Alex had gone over the job parameters with them previously. When Alex is talking to you about project options, he will give you a variety of options, and he can talk about the positives and negatives of each one. They can find the best or the most reasonably priced materials, your choice. Like any San Francisco contractor who is worth his salt, Alex Martin is a busy man. It is not easy to get onto his schedule right away, but when he says he will be there Tuesday, he will be there Tuesday. And when he says the job will take 3 days, it will be done in 3 days. Highly recommended. Any serious work that needs to be done at my house starts with a conversation with Alex.

I wish I could give 10 stars for Shaddle Construction's work on our master bathroom addition…read more Working with Shaddle Construction was like night and day in comparison to the original contractor we hired who did a horrible job. Shaddle's level of workmanship, attention to our needs, and old-fashioned customer first attitude was clear from the start. The honesty and professionalism of John Shaddle, his subcontractors and his crew were evident in every interaction we had with them. It took us almost a year to find Shaddle Construction after the debacle of the prior contractor, but it was worth the wait. John and his subcontractors figured out how to correct the innumerable errors in workmanship in the bathroom interior and the exterior stucco. The shower needed to be completely demolished and redone. Subcontractor Chris Field meticulously made sure the floor slope was correct, the walls were plumb and painstakingly measured and rechecked his measurements before cutting each tile. Chris used a laser beam and a level to check each tile he installed to make sure the tiles were even. He was patient, professional, exacting and a joy to work with. The resulting installation is absolutely beautiful. Subcontractor Armando, of Armando Plastering, fixed the exterior stucco. He is an artist who managed to match exactly the style of the original 80-year-old stucco. The crew made sure that our house was protected from any dust and debris, cleaned up daily and were respectful of our house and us. We love our new bathroom and are so grateful to Shaddle Construction for making our dream finally come to reality. Our faith in people and contractors was restored. Thank you, John!

It made us wonder if his jackhammer is too small, or if he is cutting corners by using only a single crewmember with a jackhammer, or whether jackhammering was even the best solution. (Maybe he could have used a bobcat?) When I called him to inquire about when he'd be finished and whether his approach was the fastest way to get the job done, he had a really bad attitude; which is what other yelpers have described in their reviews. Mr. Allen is certainly not someone we'd ever want to work with.

One contractor gave an estimate that was accepted by the insurance company, but then that contractor backed out, saying he was moving to Sacramento. Andy, head of Archeon, agreed to abide by the prior contractor's estimate. Although there were the usual delays and timing miscommunications common to every construction job, Andy and his team did an outstanding job, very high quality and within budget. His team also handled unexpected electrical and plumbing problems. They can do it all! I'm super happy with the results and highly recommend them for any size project.

The company did the classic thing of taking twice as long and costing twice as much as quoted but when they were done, the work was terrible too! The walls began cracking almost immediately and we had to have other contractors in to fix all the errors they made. Their people smoked on the job site (so, in our home) and whenever we would try and talk with company representatives, they would try and gaslight us into believing it was somehow our fault. I cannot say strongly enough that you should hire literally anybody else.

He began ignoring calls, sparsely responding to texts, and setting appointments only to later break them. I was forced to use another contractor to complete the work I had already paid Felipe for. Upon filing a bond claim to recoup my losses, I learned that I am one of several current claimants against the California bond. I wish I had done more homework. A simple Google search of Puac Construction's legal/bond history shows that my experience is not unique in recent years.

I have already detailed my experiences with SDW, but have since been contacted by others and…read morerealize I emerged relatively unscathed! I assume Sam dismisses my remarks, if asked, but what could account for a five week project taking 13 months, ending Feb. 2024? A few delays were due to weather, but most were because no one was assigned to work here for long stretches of time. I'm writing another review to explain that the frustration and stress experienced during the build persist with issues that arise afterward. Part of my project entailed a new sewer line and ejection pump. Although there were no operational concerns, I saw some worrying signs indicating there might be a problem going forward. I contacted Sam on 1/16. After some delayed and vague responses, he agreed to come on the 23rd at 5. He arrived at 6:40 when it was dark, and checked the sewer by listening and seeing no seepage. He sent his plumber the next day, who did the same. They couldn't figure it out, but I continued to see suspicious activity (muddy surround, liquid on top of the tank, and evidence of spurting water against the adjacent fence), and wrote him again on 2/2. For the next 3 plus weeks he mostly ignored me, but eventually stated the issue was beyond his expertise, he had found a specialist, and asked for my schedule to set an appointment. This happened twice, with no result. I finally gave up, found my own plumber, who removed the lid of the tank (what a concept!), saw the problem, and fixed it on 2/25/2025. Since he had stressed his dedication to servicing his clients and made a show of doing it, I paid the bill, and asked for reimbursement. He liked the outcome, didn't mention the money, and didn't send it, even after a second request. It was a whopping $225! While here, he also said what was needed was to replace the dirt surrounding the pump with drainage rocks, which he'd do. Of course he hasn't, but I'll include that in my attempts to get full resolution through official means. I was lucky. My ADU is occupied and in the almost 6 weeks of inactivity, nothing broke nor were my tenants inconvenienced. But I lost a lot of time in seriously addressing the problem because of his false assurances, gambling with the outcome. He's got the talk part down, when he responds, including what can only be construed sometimes as deliberate lies. But he often doesn't follow through. My experience during the build prepared me for non-compliance, so I've asked him several times for purchase and warranty info for big ticket items. If he won't address problems, I don't have what I need to proceed on my own. He's always said he'd get the documentation right away, but I've never received what I've repeatedly asked for. Sam disrespects his clients. He doesn't care about you once he has a signed contract and money. If no one shows up, or issues with the work arise, and you need to contact him, he typically ignores you, which is a very difficult tactic to deal with successfully. If he does answer, he might say anything to allay your anxieties, even untruths, because he needs to get you off his back. You don't deal with people in the same way so you accept his answers. When you finally realize how long your concerns have been allowed to fester, despite the energy you've expended, it's mind blowing. Once SDW starts the job, it's difficult for you to extricate yourself since other contractors don't want to be saddled with someone else's work and issues. Understand that his actions, mostly inaction, are often contractually illegal, unprofessional, and unacceptable. Be warned!
