From the start, the owners were genuinely accommodating and easy to work with--responsive, flexible, and calm throughout the planning. The banquet hall fit close to 400 guests and still felt comfortable the entire night. The food was the star. It was a huge hit with our guests, and people were still talking about it the next day at the wedding--even weeks later. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and consistent across a big crowd, which is hard to pull off at this scale. Service was also impeccable--attentive, organized, and professional the whole time. We called to order and it took around 15 minutes to pick up. Walked inside and nobody paid attention so we had to flag someone down. Paid and they watched us as we tried to tip. We ordered the buttered chicken, malai kofta, garlic naan, and rice. Butter chicken was bland, malai kofta was good, garlic naan was dry, rice was just plain steamed rice, not a lot of flavors going on. When I was seeing Toby I would sometimes come see her at her university and we'd go for this great Indian - Thai Fusion place. I remember they had the best Goat Curry with a bit of sesame in it and I think I've been in love with that dish ever since. It definitely lands in my top 5 of favorite dishes that I'll order anywhere and get cravings for. Toby says if she's made out of bibimbap, then I could be made out of goat curry. I always look around my area for decent places for the entree that aren't going to break the bank, will still set my tongue and arse on fire, and still going to make me want to come back for more. And I think I may have found it at Swad of India. That dish was rock solid. The goat was tender and plentiful, especially for only being $15, and that sauce was rich and poignant. About the only thing I would change for next time is just upping the spice level to a 10 because, even at an 8 level, it still failed to leave me burning my mouth off. The space was great, spacious for not being the huge dining room, and definitely with lots of character in the table space and bar. And with the banquet hall next door, I think they would even be able to accommodate larger parties easily. The service was super cool and chill, and other cold words, as they weren't super in your face every seventeen seconds, but still managed to get the refills, ask how it was, and get boxes and the check without having to be asked. It was refreshingly professional and courteous. All restaurants should run their servers through the same training. Overall, this place rocks. And with the exception of failing to melt my face off in spiciness, I think my meal here was fantastic. I want back for round two with that goat curry as soon as possible. read more

The paneer - 2 types - spinach - gorgeous. The butter - smooth n silky. The appetizer - a very unique one- the kachori tikki was a beautifully seasoned deep fried crispy pastry shell filled with potatoes and peas. Swad - isht( yummy). The bread - fresh and delightful . The kind owner Lata kept wanting to feed me and asked me twice if I would like some more bread.( all included and AYCE in the one flat price). This restaurant is situated next to a banquet hall (they're connected), but the activities going on in the banquet hall the day I went didn't disrupt service at all. The staff are very friendly and attentive. My table ordered samosas, pani puri, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, paneer pakora, paneer hariyali, and mango lassi. We also got rice and garlic naan to accompany all the dishes. Every single item was spectacular. I can definitely see myself returning. My favorite dish was the chicken tikka masala. Coming from a huge city with a vibrant Indian community, we were hard pressed to find good Indian food out here. A student of mine whose family recently moved from India to my town said they really like Swad. We've tried it 3x so far. Always great. The food is so delicious, fresh, and piping hot. This review is strictly on the service as the food has remained consistently good. I've also taken as much time as possible to allow for as an objective experience as possible. When the owners/staff are speaking animatedly and with more energy with other Indian patrons who are sitting at the bar--whether or not they are family friends, etc, but go completely silent when they serve, that's a red flag. I was in the mood for Indian food and was in the area running errands, so I decided to stop by. I didn't really think much of the interaction initially when I walked in and was seated, but this question is directed mainly at the man and woman whom I've seen the last two times I've been here. Is there a reason for the difference in demeanor? There was another family who came in and were seated for dinner shortly before I left, and I noticed they were treated the same way--with complete silence. I'd consider this a nuance of this place specifically since I've been to Indian restaurants in Diamond Bar, Ontario, and Pomona, and there are distinctly more interactive. I wouldn't consider this a nuance of introversion based on what I've seen or heard. I'm not looking to have a heart-to-heart conversation but at least have a basic level of interaction like a thank you or welcome. I thanked the man each time my water was refilled, and I also said thank you when leaving. NO REPLY at any point, and this is not an exaggeration or embellishment of the experience. This has been consistent. If you're going to order for takeout, you're fine. If you're good with silence, you're fine too. I'll stick with Curryland in Pomona. I've only been to this establishment twice. The first time I went the service was exceptional. I ordered the shrimp tikka masala, basmati rice, and garlic naan. The first time I went the portions were great and so was the food itself. I came in again a separate time and got the exact same things. This time the service was slow I had to continue to ask for everything. The food was good but they changed the portion sizes on top of that before I could notice they had received a score of B for the restaurant and it was for things like cleanliness. Our favorite dishes are rogan josh, achari chicken and lamb vindaloo. I usually order a few veggie dishes like bengan bhartha, dal makhani, and karahi vegetables. I also always order papadum for my husband and achar. We haven't dined in the restaurant. Usually I'm in the area and craving Indian food, so I call in my order on the way home. The first time I ordered here the food was really good and flavorful, but it wasn't very spicy even though I asked for medium and hot for the entrees, with the exception of the raita which was rancid and I never order it anymore. The second time I picked up and the didn't pack my whole order, so I had to call in and drive 20 minutes back to get the rest of it. The third time the order was correct other than the heat level.
