Drunken noodles. Good but too many "filler" green peppers
    Lisa F.

Great food (except, oddly, curries do not come with rice?? add for $3.75 per tiny bowl) and lovely decor. But the experience was weirdly unpleasant. Website doesn't take reservations. It says to call but we tried 3 times and they never picked up and you can't leave message. So we arrived right after opening. The host, upon looking disappointed in us for not having a reservation, glanced around an entirely empty restaurant and said "I guess I can seat you here" at the tiniest table on the walkway and right in front of the door. While dining, several other (disappointing) couples were reluctantly seated at 4-tops. This is fast-food. We were all done and gone before any hordes with reservations arrived, so it would not have been a problem to seat us at a comfortable table. The wait staff was was nice but pushy, obviously told to turn tables over as fast as possible. Waitress arrived wanting drink, appetizer and dinner orders all at once - at moment you are (reluctantly) seated. I'm torn about recommending Swaddee because the food was admittedly excellent. But life is probably too short for this sort of experience.

We stopped into Swaddee Thai during a weekend trip to Coronado and were so glad we did! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming and we got seated right away. We ordered the Yellow Curry and it was a generous portion and tasted amazing. Service was friendly and quick, and everything felt fresh and made with care. You can tell this is a spot the locals love, and for good reason.

We stopped by for a lunch at Swaddee Thai while in Coronado. The restaurant is located on C Avenue, just off the main street of Orange Ave, within walking distance of the Hotel Del in Coronado. I give it 3.5 stars. We chose to dine on the patio as inside seemed a little warm. We were seated right away and served swiftly. We enjoyed a ginger stir fry entree and a Thai iced tea. The food could have been a little hotter, but it was tasty. We ordered a spice level of 2, which was just right for us. We paid by credit card and they took the card away to scan it. I prefer when they bring the machine to the table nowadays. Prices were about on par with other Thai restaurants in the city. Helpful?

Stopped by Swaddee Thai with friends, while we were in the area. I loved their outdoor sitting, It was very cozy with standing heaters and lights. Their panang curry was very coconutty, the paradise noodles were good though I've tried better in the SD area. Overall, Service was great with fair pricing for the Coronado area. A solid spot if you're craving Thai after the beach.

Swaddee Thai was an overall decent experience. The food was good but nothing special. Ordered the standard pad thai and pad see ew - lacked any punch in flavors. It was still an enjoyable meal, but I've had better Thai food elsewhere. Probably wouldn't come back. The service was mediocre. Slower outside service, but outdoors seating is nice for fresh air. No designated parking area - street parking.

Very clean, tables are pretty close to each other, but the place wasn't packed since it just opened when we arrived. Thai tea was really good. I like the ice they used. Pineapple fried rice was okay. Panang curry was good. Som tum was good as well. The downside is the plates they serve on are cold, so our food cooked down super quick. It wasn't bad. But there's better in my opinion.

Hard to beat! We had Nam w Chicken which was Awesome #6 spice, Pad Snow Pea was Delicious & Fresh Summer Rolls which were to die for! A FANTASTIC lunch that met our every desire. Parking was a snap as they are part of the Crown Group. Next time we are in San Diego/Coronado we shall return! In a single word, OUTSTANDING!

Yum! So glad we stopped in here. Some of the most delicious Thai food I've had in ages. Tucked on a corner one street black back from the main shops on Orange Ave, this place is a gem. We were easily and quickly helped and service was friendly and exceptionally attentive and polite. They were pretty booked for a middle of the weeknight dinner but easily seated us at a small table for two. We ordered steamed pork dumplings to start and chicken Pad Thai for me and a duck dish for my husband with Asian broccoli. Everything was so good. Really good flavors. Food was out quickly and our server was a sweetheart. We'll def come back for dinner here when we're in town next! It's cozy inside but clean and classy.

Ok it's officially a RIP OFF !!! They charged me 14.00 for 4 spring rolls ... well no it's two cut in half and then another 2.00

So I got take out tonight and although it looks and smells good I was disappointed to open the bag only to find NO rice .... None not even steamed white rice. Even though I ordered curry and chicken basil, dishes that, you know need and usually come with rice ! So I looked at their menu and yep they don't come with rice !!! They charge anywhere from 3-4 dollars for a tiny cup of rice .... Well ok but you know tell me so I don't get home and have to make rice to eat my take out ! Lucky I had brown jasmine rice but I have to wait 45 mins to eat ... Also when you charge 58.00 for two entrees and spring rolls ... you could through in rice !!! Which costs ..... ????? Like .25 cents a cup ! Buyer beware ... I smell rip off !

Date night? Hangout with friends? Family dinner? If you're craving Thai food and happen to be in Coronado, Swaddee is the perfect place to satisfy those cravings! My boyfriend and I walked in on a weekend night and were seated immediately. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for any occasion and made me feel like I was in Thailand. The food itself was great! We shared a chicken pad thai and tom yum pot. The pot was smaller than expected but they loaded it up with plenty of protein. I'm also very picky about my pad thai. Usually 50% of the thai places I go to they make the noodles too dry so that the noodles stick together but this was just perfect! These two items were perfect for us to share and we weren't super hungry either. The prices were also incredibly cheap given the location and that it was dinner time. I highly recommended coming to Swaddee Thai!

Hi, Does anyone know if new owners took over?? I want to love this place again. But the food is not tasting the same. Been going for over 8 years.

    Is reservation require?

No. Just go. Check their business hours before you go. Also, they closed on Sunday and Monday.

If anyone has been here over the past 7 years, have they changed ownership? Is the food the same?? Far as taste?

I can't say I know about the ownership change, if any. I only found out about this restaurant for 2-3 years, it's still my must-go restaurant when we are in town. We always cleaned the plate. Food is always so good. Service is great too.

    Is this place closed?

Swaddee is closed on Sundays and Mondays! Also from 3-5 in the afternoon every other day.

We ordered 4 dishes to share, the wasabi scallop ceviche, crispy baby crab, braised beef panang, and crab fried rice. The ceviche was definitely one of my favorites. Super flavorful, fresh, with the perfect amount of wasabi. The crispy baby crab was savory and easy to eat, especially since you're eating the whole crab, shell and all. The curry in the braised beef panang was so addicting, I couldn't stop eating it. The crab fried rice was tasty and filling. For dessert we got the mango sticky rice. The mangoes were fresh and sweet. Overall pretty standard but still yummy. Service was friendly, helpful and attentive. All the food came out in the timely manner. Perfect little find for exactly the kind of low-key dinner we were in the mood for that evening. The patio was such a great spot to unwind & the people-watching alone made it worth it! The restaurant does not have a liquor license but being next door neighbors with Stone Brewery was an added bonus! Grabbing a cold beer to go with dinner really rounded everything out. We went on a Saturday night and were seated right away. Our server, Carol, was super sweet and made our first visit even better. Even though I had practically memorized the menu already, I still had her explain everything and give us her recommendations. She shared her favorites, what's popular, and even what customers don't usually order. She felt very genuine and honest and never once seemed like she was trying to upsell us. Then I looked over and saw Chef Tara. I had already told my friends about her, only to find out they follow her on Instagram too. Eventually, we worked up the courage to talk to her, and she was incredibly nice. She took her time answering our questions about Filipino culture and explaining how her dishes came about. You can really feel her passion and pride in her work. I truly admired that. And the food? WOW. Easily the best meal I've had in 2026. It's been a week and I'm STILL thinking about it. I knew I wanted to write a review, but I honestly didn't expect the experience to exceed my expectations this much. Love at first bite. We started with the Tuna Kinilaw, Carpaccio, and Crispy Pig Ears. Carol taught us how to eat the kinilaw: put all the good stuff on the spoon for the perfect bite. Rich coconut, calamansi, cilantro, fish, jalapeño, and onion on a crispy wonton. It was an absolute explosion of flavor. My taste buds were not ready! The carpaccio was fresh and paired with what I believe was pear or another refreshing fruit. Then the crispy pig ears came out. I was hesitant because not everyone at our table is a pork fan, and I had already convinced them to order the pork tomahawk tocino. But after Carol and Chef Tara both recommended it, we gave it a shot. SO glad we did. The ears were incredibly crispy, with a sweet-and-sour tamarind glaze. Then I realized there was tofu in the dish and immediately thought, "Oh my God, this is the chef's version of tokwa't baboy!" Chef Tara later confirmed it. Such a creative and unexpected take on a Filipino classic. The Roasted Cabbage was supposed to be a side, but honestly, it could've been a main. Roasted perfectly with miso brown butter and lime. Simple but incredibly flavorful. The sauce was so good one of my friends started putting rice in it. Next was the Short Rib Kare Kare. I grew up not eating bagoong, so I usually just use patis with my kare kare. Chef Tara intentionally incorporated bagoong into hers instead of serving it on the side because she wanted people to eat it the way she intended. She was right. That sauce was AMAZING. I'm pretty sure the bagoong was homemade, and the combination had me dunking my rice straight into the sauce. The short rib was tender, flavorful, and practically falling off the bone. The Chicken Adobo sa Pula was another surprise. Chef Tara described it as her French-Filipino fusion take on adobo--and there's no soy sauce! The chicken was incredibly tender, the sauce was killer, and the crispy garlic on top added the perfect crunch. Then came the star of the show: Pork Tomahawk Tocino. Sweet glaze, mango sawsawan, a meaty portion on one side and pork belly on the other. The meatier part reminded me of classic tocino and home cooking, with just the right amount of sweetness. Then we got to the pork belly... It melted in your mouth. I've never shaken my head this much during one dinner. Every dish just kept coming out swinging. For dessert, we had the Sticky Rice Crème Brûlée, and this one completely blew me away. I expected a Thai-style sticky rice dessert with coconut milk and condensed milk. Nope. THE STICKY RICE WAS BIKO. OMG. Chef Tara stayed true to the Filipino dish and elevated it instead. Mind blown is an understatement. We also had the Buko Pan Dan, which was great, along with another dessert that was also delicious. But that sticky rice crème brûlée had me sitting there thinking, "Why did it take me so long to come here?" And the restaurant itself is such a vibe. I loved the anime-inspired artwork throughout the restaurant--even in the men's restroom! I cannot say enough about this place. I was telling everyone at work, my cousins, my friends, and pretty much anyone I passed on my walk back to the hotel that night. Animae is an absolute gem. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing atmosphere, but most importantly, you can feel the passion and pride behind the food. Chef Tara isn't just creating dishes--she's telling stories and bringing Filipino culture to the table in such a creative way. Thank you, Chef Tara, Carol, and the entire Animae team for an unforgettable night.
