I had the shrimp aguachile, fish tacos, pulpo aguachile, and it was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and had just the right amount of spice. The presentation was beautiful too, as you can see in my photos. I also came here with my partner and shared everything. We also ordered the non alcoholic michelada, and it was so refreshing. It paired perfectly with the seafood and was a fun alternative to a traditional michelada. The food was fresh, the service was friendly, and the overall vibe made for a great lunch. While walking, we spotted this restaurant that's located on a Y-corner. It had an inviting flair with outdoor umbrellas and patios that provided shade. We noticed a Brunch menu, so we stopped in. We were quickly seated. Once our waiter arrived, he was very bubbly and inviting. We enjoyed some "chips" and guacamole before our meals and the guacamole was delicious! Plain and lightly salted without being bland. I had the avocado toast with eggs added and the dish was very tasty! Sad we didn't take photos of our plates because this restaurant was wonderful. We made reservations and were seated right on time. The server gave us great recommendations and we ordered the red snapper tostadas, the ceviche, the branzino Esmeralda and roasted cauliflower. We loved it all, from the beautiful outdoor seating in gorgeous Coronado and the gracious servers and fresh and flavorful seafood. Where do I even begin? We had high hopes for La Corriente Coronado, but unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. We were seated right away and the lady hostess was very nice. However, we waited over 30 minutes without even being offered water. We were told our waiter was new, which I completely understand, but another hostess eventually had to step in and take our order. After ordering, we waited another 20 minutes for our food, which was especially frustrating with a one-year-old at the table. Even the homemade guacamole didn't come out ahead of the meal. Unfortunately, the food wasn't worth the wait. The beer-battered shrimp tacos had only THREE small shrimp total in each taco, covered in a huge amount of batter. They should honestly just be called beer-battered tacos. Definitely not worth the money. We can for lunch on the patio - it was a sunny February day. Most of the tables were shaded, and pretty chilly but we were fortunate to get the one sunny table. We tried two of the Baja Maki rolls - the Coronado roll with hamachi, shrimp, avocado, cucumber, and a ceviche dressing, and the bluefin Roll, with bluefin tuna, shrimp, leche de tigre, avocado and cucumber. Both good, but would have been better without the sauce on top. We did like the ponzu sauce. We also ordered the Ahi tuna tostada - it was ok, but ahi was vey pale and flavorless . I am doing dry February, so tried the Clamato AA with spicy tomato juice, clams, and tahin and it was very tasty. Might try the coconut mocktail next time. too. The server was so helpful and I loved the food. Authentic Mexican shrimp and octopus cocktail. Also, the server helped us with ordering off menu items for the kids I.e., quesadillas side of rice and beans. They also have steak tacos. The ambience was relaxing and private for my group of 13 people. We reserved the restaurant weeks in advance and got VIP treatment. They had a long table ready for us on the side of the restaurant. So we had a mixup with a reservation (my fault) and yet manager Katia handled it with such grace and professionalism that it allowed us to truly enjoy our evening and was it ever wonderful!! We'd heard so many good things about the menu it was tough to choose what to order... I thoroughly enjoyed the cauliflower (which we ordered is an appetizer). The sauce was complex, flavorfully warm, and absolutely delicious. (Yes just cauliflower) Yet it was as memorable as the most exotic dish on any menu! The fish fillet was yummy as well and cooked to perfection. The patio 'vibe' lent itself to a casual evening yet the service felt 5 star. Unfortunately, my experience at La Corriente was not very satisfying. The portion sizes were extremely small. My California taco was served on a very small plate, and my daughter's ceviche portion was even smaller. It was also very spicy, and she couldn't eat it. We asked if they could replace it with a non-spicy version, but they said all their ingredients are already mixed with chili. Instead, they brought a dish mostly filled with onions and just a few pieces of avocado, which was disappointing. The atmosphere was also not as expected. It looks much nicer in photos, but in reality, it's quite ordinary, located right by the street, and noisy. Overall, not a great experience. read more

La Corriente was such a great experience. The staff was incredibly friendly from the moment we walked up and made us feel welcome right away. We ordered the red snapper tostada, guacamole, the shrimp plate with rice and beans, and the rib eye tacos, and everything was outstanding. The flavors were fresh and well balanced, and the portions felt generous without being too heavy. The homemade tortillas were truly to die for and they made the shrimp plate taste even better. They also bring complimentary cremas and salsa to the table that you can use to dress up your seafood, tacos or tostadas and they were delicious. What I loved most was that it didn't feel like typical restaurant food. It tasted comforting and homemade, like a meal you'd enjoy at your mom or grandmas house, but elevated. Have you ever been in a fancy restaurant when the manager screamed at you because you requested a side of salsa? Me neither, until my dinner at LaCorriente. STAY AWAY. 3 of our 3 courses were ruined by the same mistake - spicy sauces on the order. My dd can't tolerate pepper sauces but until now most Mexican places - from Barrio taco shops to La Jolla fancy restaurants were happy to serve the sauces on the side. Until now. The roasted cauliflower, which is a delicious shareable dish, was nestled in a pool of pepper mayo (not mentioned in the description). When we complained the waiter exclaimed :"But it isn't spicy!" The overpriced octopus taco - exact same thing. Finally, the manager appeared. We had ordered fish in a sauce - but I asked her to serve the fish with a salsa verde sauce on the side. "What a good idea" she exclaimed. Fish arrives without the side sauce. When I ask for it, she stomped over to our table, in the middle of a charming outdoor patio, and huffed that the salsa came with a different fish dish and couldn't possibly be served on the side. When I reminded her of our convo, she reluctantly agreed to provide a small cup of the salsa. My dinner was ruined and I saw all the other diners looking at her performance. I suggest going over the bridge to Fonda del Barrio that has even better seafood at lower prices with great service. And a charming upscale but casual ambiance. read more

I first gave these guys a try back at the Food & Wine festival out in Liberty Station, and I was impressed enough to want to visit them in person. I was pleased to find out they had recently opened a spot in Coronado as I like to drop in on the island every now and then. I use to work in Nado way back in the day. Anyhow, staff is super friendly and helpful. The space in Coronado is not very big, so not ideal for a big party, and space is quite limited. Food is fresh and absolutely luscious with flavor. My husband and I shared a seafood plate which consisted if 2 types of sushi rolls, shrimp cocktail, ceviche, oysters, and tostada type piqueo. Which was pretty much all we needed since I eat very little and so does my husband. We both had serrano margaritas which were just the right hint of sweet, spicy, and sour. I'm glad to see they've opened another location as going to La Jolla is always nice but I hate dealing with traffic on the weekend there. I will be back! Popped in while in Coronado for a bite with the family. I know it's new but the folly of errors were beyond excusable. It was happy hour but no HH menu given. Upon asking: - ordered a beer - 10 min later was served a flat warm modelo. Then was told the tap has been down. - offered a beer in a "chilled glass" - 10 more min, turns out no chilled glasses (I didn't ask for this, the server offered) - ordered fish tacos - 40 min later was told they are out of fish taco (battered fish but have the ceviche we ordered) - 5 min later was told no more ceviche but good news.. they would not charge us for The food we didn't get but ordered 1 hr before - a fish restaurant with no fish before the dinner rush with no reservations. Seems fishy?!?! The steak tacos were average.. at best. The oysters were good and reasonable On HH prices. I guess they have been open for only 3 months but this is way below my standard. And to top it off the bathroom for staff and diners had no soap (gross - how does the kitchen staff wash their hands?!?) This was an all around disappointment especially given the awesome choices nearby. This is an easy "miss" in my book. read more
