I usually don't take the time to write restaurant reviews because, honestly, I'd rather be eating than reviewing. But Parakeet Café in Coronado absolutely earned one. Recently my diet has become a game of "What can I eat?" with a growing list of restrictions that has left me frustrated and dreaming about foods I can't have. So finding a place that actually made me excited about eating again felt like striking gold. I ordered the avocado toast on their gluten-free sourdough, and wow--it was delicious. The bread was so good I genuinely didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. Gluten-free can sometimes be a gamble, but this was a winning hand. I also tried the lemon blueberry scones, which are gluten-free, vegan, and made without refined sugar--basically checking every box on my current food plan. They were so good that "I'll just have one bite" quickly turned into "Can I get some to go?" The café itself is beautiful, with a cozy boho vibe that feels both stylish and welcoming (basically my dream aesthetic). The service was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. My only complaint? I wish there was a Parakeet Café closer to where I live because I'd probably become a regular. If you have dietary restrictions--or just appreciate really good food--this place is definitely worth a visit. read more

I got a brekkie(?)(australian?) sandwich, and it was heavenly. Both the croissant and eggs were some of the fluffiest I've had. The texture of these eggs were like.....like......Japanese level. The croissant was also sinfully light and flaky. It was like eating a cloud. The overall flavor was impressive. It had no actual breakfast meat, but was more savory than most breakfast sandwiches I've had that did have meat. The sauce and even the spinach somehow enhanced the effect. Parakeet is good for health conscious eaters who don't mind paying a premium to avoid seed oils, and other inflammatory "junk" ingredients in their amazing selection of lattes and brunch items. So I really value that aspect, however, this location while cute is a warehouse style building and was extremely loud and echo-y! I will say the poke bowl fell flat in the flavor department. I would stick to their brunch items as this was my first time having lunch and it was just ok. The turmeric latte was delish. Service: Order at the counter then they bring it to the table. Absolutely loved this place! Christmas morning, we decided to stroll around Coronado, and came up upon this little café. The food was absolutely amazing, loved the crunch of the croissant sandwich, and the roasted potatoes were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The food was visually appetizing as well as the interior had such a cute vibe. The staff was super friendly and even though it was crowded they were really working to make sure everybody wasn't standing in line or waiting off in areas for too long.. a must try!! The only reason I gave it a four versus a five was to add on some of the sides just seemed way overpriced for me. Wouldn't stop me from coming back. read more

I go to parakeet all the time in Newport so decided to try it out in Coronado. I'm glad to report that the quality is consistent. Parakeet was quite busy and loud at 10:30 AM on a Sunday. We decided to get a spot in the outdoor back patio to get away from the hustle and bustle. My iced vanilla matcha was perfection and came out quickly. We werent waiting long for our food either. All the staff were friendly and accommodating- you can tell they work hard! I shared the breakfast burrito and avocado toast. The toast had a nice and thick piece of sourdough which was tasty topped with refreshing vegetables. Came here last weekend on a little vacation and honestly so glad this place is here considering I am gluten-free and vegan and they have tons of options. The only downside is the wait time was ridiculous. I ordered two smoothies and a burrito which took 45 minutes to make. Granted it was busy but for 3 things I thought that was a but ridiculous. They only had 1 person making all the smoothies. However, the smoothies were pretty good. Got the protein bomb smoothies (for me and my boyfriend) and the Socal burrito. I also got a Banana Oat Loaf & Chocolate which was exceptionally good. The place is cute and quaint I just might order ahead of time next time so it doesn't take as long. Food was delicious, got the burger and a teriyaki bowl. Flavors were fresh and it was served in a timely manner. Service was implacable! The ambience of this place is super fun & cute. There are seats inside and outside. Juicery is on one side & coffee shop/cafe on the other. You order at the front & have a seat, then someone will bring you your items. The drip coffee was great. They have lattes as well but we didn't try any. My daughter ordered the lemonade and the other one ordered an apple juice. They were good & the girls said they tasted "fresh". Food- we ordered the egg & cheese sandwich, the harvest toast with egg, & breakfast burrito. Everything was AMAZING! Plus, it was a quick and easy breakfast. Recently went to this Parakeet Cafe I am from Arizona and The cafe was super clean and the breakfast was so good. Everything is fresh and clean and the highest quality. I really love parakeet Café because they have these really amazing gluten-free pastries and their menu has been good over the years. I've spent tons of money of this place and have historically really loved it. But now every time I go in, I am increasingly disappointed. This new SoCal burrito they made looks normal based on the ingredients but when you get it, it tastes like some weird pasta flavor. It tastes like I'm eating a red sauce, pasta burrito? It's weird, it has mushrooms in it, and is absolutely nothing that you should ever be calling SoCal burrito. Nothing close to anything anyone in all of Southern California has ever made.. ever. It's literally disgusting. And then I was like oh cool a gluten-free grilled cheese sandwich sounds great. No it's a barely melted, 2- piece of gluten-free bread that taste like cardboard. And the gluten-free cookie oatmeal taste like paper. I don't know what's going on, but I'm really sad especially when I spent $40 for something for an entire order for something and literally not a single thing was good. Not one to give out 5 stars, but there simply isn't anything to complain about. The staff was kind. The coffee was great (we had a vanilla latte and an Americano). I ordered it black just to see how their espresso tasted. (It's amazing) The shots were dialed in and it showed. We ordered savory breakfast off the menu and it was delicious. Its a bit pricey considering I got a grape pop for $4.50! ... ya... but its a brand in itself , at an upscale place... its right across the street from the great Del Hotel Coronado, one of the expensive upscale places so that's expected. This was my first time checking out Parakeet Cafe in Coronado and only my 3rd time ever being in Coronado. The cafe was pretty busy, but I was able to find a seat right away. You pay for your order at the register, and then they bring you your meal at your table. I got a matcha latte that had dragon fruit in it. I also had belgium waffles, but they were made with activated charcoal, so the waffles had a cool color to it. The food came quick and it was delicious. I was able to get some work done while I had brunch. I would certainly come back here. read more

I've always loved this place because of the wonderful food, drink selection, and general ambiance. Today prompted me to write a review, however, because of a special experience. We had a slight issue with an order - nothing huge, but enough to point out. Jess, the supervisor, on hearing this, came out, and went above and beyond - explaining some recent changes to the kitchen, offering a remake or a refund... none of which we asked for but were very kind to offer. It didn't feel forced, or required, or anything but a genuine effort to please and make sure we'd leave really happy and wanting to return. Pretty coffee shop in prime location with the worst service, super dirty tables with plenty of dishes to be picked up and cleaned, smells like sewer...Yes, parrots everywhere are cute and the decor is happy and the place looks inviting with the division between the bowls area and the pastries and coffee one and also noticed a nice patio in the back area. However, the staff seemed not to care. Also, I asked if I could have a nice paper cup with the iconic parrot and they said they didn't have more and I pointed to the pile with the same. Then the guy said oh that is for other type of drinks. Weird, as at other Parakeet cafes they have served my lattes in that kind of paper cup and not a plain one.
