I ordered the same smoked chicken salad I've ordered for the last couple of years at least twice a month and tonight I was very dissatisfied. The Ranch dressing was so spicy I could not eat the salad. They don't have a spicy ranch on their menu. I didn't taste it before I put it on my salad and after the first bite it was obviously heavy on the cayenne. I tried a couple of more bites and it was so spicy I just couldn't eat it. The smoked chicken had a rub that was also extremely spicy and it has never been spicy before. Smoky, yes, spicy hot, no. I love spicy food but this was not edible. I called them and let them know and they are making me another salad. FYI Make sure you taste the salad dressing before you put it on your salad. read more

I've been to Oklahoma City many many times and never had real good barbecue. While sitting in the hotel lobby waiting for my buddies to come down to go for dinner. A guest staying at the hotel recommended this place. Boy, I'm glad he did! We were pleasantly greeted by the cashier who took our orders cheerfully. We ordered a little bit of everything. We got the ribs, brisket, pulled pork and side orders of crispy okra, sweet beans and mashed potatoes. After placing our orders we received a number and sat down at a table. We were immediately greeted by a very friendly host, I think her name was "Paige"and she was training a new hire that day named "Koa", they got our drinks and brought us our cutlery. The food came out very quickly. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and juicy. Now I'm no professional barbecue judge, so I really don't know squat about "bark"or "smoke rings" on a rib, but they were delicious!! I don't like my ribs too wet, so having the BBQ sauce on the side was perfect. The ribs were dancing in my mouth! The sides were great, but I wasn't a big fan of the crispy okra, but they have a lengthy list of side's to choose from so you're bound to find the right one for your palette. It's refreshing to have the manager come to our table and greet us. He wanted to make sure we were enjoying the food and service. The servers were very attentive and checked up on us ever so often. When we were done eating the staff were quick to clean up our table. If you're ever in the Oklahoma City area and craving for some good old fashioned barbecue. I didn't have the greatest experience at the Swadley's on the South side. Not that it was bad. It was average. After stating some of my concerns, I was pleasantly surprised when the fine folks at Swadley's reached out to me to give them another shot. So we gave them another shot. I have to say, I really enjoyed our more recent experience. We opted for one of those giant family feast thinga-ma-jiggers. The order that comes with a couple pounds of meat, some side items, BBQ sauce, bread, you know? I think Swadley's website states that it feeds 'round four, but it must be four people with exceptional appetites; four men, and one woman ate their fills, and there were still leftovers to be had (of the sides at least, not so much on the meat). For a little under $50, that's not a bad deal. Granted, we're all Indians, and I will admit that our relatively smaller frames limit how much BBQ we can consume in a sitting. The meats were pretty enjoyable; the brisket wasn't dried out, and the sausage was pretty good (although I can't remember much about it now). The sides were reasonably satisfying as well. Excellent customer service, combined with above average food (for the most part) leaves me satiated. Is there better BBQ in town? I'm sure. Does it take care of my BBQ cravings? My mom wanted barbecue so I asked around, Swadley's kept coming up, so here we are. It's a fun place, with a western theme that comes across as authentic. It is similar to a "fast casual" style, you order and pay as you walk in and then a server takes care of you the rest of the way. The ribs were amazing - some of the best I have ever seen, but the brisket almost lost them two stars, it was dry that it was almost inedible. I almost never complain about food, but I couldn't eat it. It was 2:30 in the afternoon, and I'm sure it was the last of a batch. But the server earned the stars back and then some. She fixed it without hesitations and brought back some amazing cuts of meat. If you are looking for good barbecue, give them a try, and if you like amazing service, you will keep coming back. Went with the smokehouse sandwich with Mac N Cheese, zero disappointments on my end. This is our go-to when it comes to local barbecue. The meats are cooked perfectly and the sides are so good. My mouth is watering just thinking about the ham and okra! They have a small fresh salad bar if you are feeling something on the lighter side. When it comes to service, I honestly can't think of a time when we have received less than excellent service. By the gods, it's like the taste and flavor gods of bbq and meat bestowed upon this place their blessing. I brought the food in my car and was instantly drooling from the smell that oozed out of the bag I could not touch, basically mocking me till I got home. I wasted no time opening the treasure trove and scarfing my face. The flavor was phenomenal,meat tender juicy. I cried tears of joy. My cats which have had no interest in ribs I've eaten before, were drawn to the forbidden meats and begged at my feet for a taste. I obliged and was met with happy meowing and the licking of chops. I love the sliced brisket and the sampler platter. I usually get the brisket, which is always great. I usually go around 1-2 PM to avoid crowds and the atmosphere is great. Always clean and helpful. A little out of my way, but it's the best brisket in the area, that I've had. Prices are decent as well. read more

Now for service ,the service was so bad we had beg for refills for drinks.Now for the price it is way to high for you get 18$ for 4 ribs any where ease you get a tender baby back ribs not 3 and up tough ribs. I went to swadley's in Bethany, oklahoma and i liked the wait person. i sent back the food because it was not what I ordered. When i got food back the onion rings tasted like they were leftovers. Overall I had a bad experience I went to get ice cream and the machine did not work. I told the waiter and he fix it. Bad management, bad kitchen staff, great waiters. Met a friend for dinner here. When you arrive, proceed to the counter to order your drinks & meal. Attentive staff will follow you to your table after ordering to bring your drinks and entrees. During this visit, I ordered the chicken fried steak, macaroni & cheese and an order of fried okra. The Mac & Cheese was creamy and delicious. A definite 4 star. The chicken fried steak was pounded out very thin. The breading was good but the gravy was bland and thin. overall I give it a 3 star. The fried okra was a complete disappointment as it was very over cooked (think black spots & crunchy like a big hard pretzel). The okra is less than a 1 Star. The real winner here is the down home friendly and thoughtful customer service. If you want great customer service. This place excels. I'll be back to try something else just because the service was so good. read more

Eat here! So many delicious options. For the price I went for the sampler. It's a lot of food but I buckled down and went for it. Really I think it's the best bang for the buck if you like an assortment of smokey animals. The ham was perfect. The turkey was perfect. Brisket perfect. The links need some heat. And the rib was not a fall off the bone one. The cream corn was yum and the sweet beans are pretty decent. People are downright nice and the service is good. Went back another night for some peach cobbler since they were out my first time there. The way it's talked up it had to be amazing. It satisfied the tastebuds but it wasn't over the top. Well not at the top either. It's basically a peach pie without the top crust. I think a cobbler should be much more substantial and should always have 'crisp'. So eat here for the bbq, the decor and the service. Finish your dinner and don't worry about saving room for dessert. read more

We like the set up. Serving of the food was prompt but the waiter could have been a little more enthusiastic and friendly. Our waiter seemed to be hesistant to serve our drinks and condiments around the table. Also noticed another employee march through the restaurant like a soldier with the same uninviting look on her face. I understand their #1 ranking in OKC. The food is great and the service outstanding. Their fried okra is second only to my mother's!

When I get bbq I want to see smoke coming out of the roof of the building. When I walk in I want to be hit in the face with the smoke smell. When I leave and I'm a block from the restaurant I want to smell like smoke. When I smell my fingers the next three days I want my fingers to smell like smoke and meat and make my mouth water. Swadley's doesn't do any of that. It's not by anymeans bad food, but it's not great bbq. I had the two meat plate with sausage and pulled pork. My sides were mac & cheese and green beans. I'm pretty sure thesausage was boiled and wasnt smoked. It tasted identical to a Eckridge Farms kilbasa from the store. The pulled pork was very dry and had no smoke flavor except for a slight flavor on the bark. I tasted the brisket of the person dining with be and it was dry but meh. Sides were average but more of a canned quality. I saw the ribs and those looked promising so I might have to give them a try. This review sounds harsh but I'm constsntly looking for great bbq. I would for sure eat here again if someone wanted to come. It was disappointing the ice cream machine was down, but to be honest, I don't need the calories. In summary, if you're looking for a bbq or family place that will satisfy picky esters in a family (except vegetarians) this place is bland enough to make the cut. I'll probably be back. read more

All of their food is home made. It's not the frozen food that has been breaded and batter before frozen and then cooked. The okra is the same as my Mother made. Not all the breading and batter on the okra. All the sides are so good. I have never had an issue with the help there. They are so nice. My orders have always been correct. If you think about it. I'll bet you can't say that about alot of other places. Besides they are good neighbors. Close down some stores to feed disaster workers and victims here in OK. I have been going there for years. Came up to this location since the south side location is being remodeled. This location is outstanding; plenty of parking, driveway and very warm welcoming. Staff was friendly and eager to wait on you. Wife and I shared the sampler dinner; different meats with 2 sides and we added the amazing salad bar. I do a lot of BBQ smoking and when I'm not smoking my own meat I love to come to Swadly's in Bethany. I love the chicken and the turkey. The pulled pork is outstanding. Both the chicken and the turkey have a nice smoke not harsh very good flavor, The pulled pork is so tasty you do not need barbecue sauce, Swadly's does have a variety of sauces that they bring to your table that are tasty but for the pulled pork doesn't need any. You order at the register and take a seat and they bring your food ,drinks & barbecue. To top it off your great meal, they serve free ice cream for dessert. I'm done with Swadleys. I overlooked lapses in quality until they started to become more and more routine. The tasteless cake, the occasional weird ribs, wide swings in portion size of the sides, and the absurd upcharge to include ribs as one of the meats on a two meat dinner. However, I recently went there purely as a matter of convenience since OKC is a veritable wasteland in terms of quality BBQ and was immediately incensed. I opened my two meat dinner and picked up the phone. I asked the little stepford waitress if they stopped full sized ribs, and she quickly turfed me to a manager. The child who picked up the phone told me that they had indeed switched over to St. Louis ribs because, and get this, there's more meat than on the full sized ribs which tend to have more fat. I thought good Christians didn't lie. They really expect me to believe that half as much as rib has more meat? And then to charge same amount for less food? That's it! read more

I just moved to this area and my husband and I were craving BBQ. We didn't want to drive all the way into OKC, so we figured we'd give this place a try. I didn't have the highest expectations of Swadley's since it's a chain BBQ restaurant, but it definitely fell short in some areas that it shouldn't have. I ordered the pulled pork plate with fried okra and cole slaw. The pork was decent. The fried okra was good. But the cole slaw was an abomination. It was so wet and sloppy with mayonnaise that I couldn't eat it. I had the spicy BBQ sauce with it and it was super sweet, which I know some people like, but it would have been nice to have a more vinegar-based option, which they didn't have. All they had was sweet pickles to go with it. To top it off, it was pretty expensive for sub-par food. We also weren't a fan of the fact that we ordered at the counter but were expected to tip a server who basically brought us our food and filled up a cup of tea for us. Will we go back to Swadley's? Probably not. We'll save our BBQ appetite for some place that provides quality food for the money that we're paying. read more

Original Location at 39th & Rockwell is the only Swadley's we will repeat visit. The one near Quail Springs lacks any charm -- 'fake' ambience. Get their combo meat plates for a taste of deliciousness. The beans and fried okra compliment any meat choices. And their 'everything' sandwich (name currently escapes me) is a fave of mine. Don't let the ordering when you walk in fool you, however. The rest of your dining experience will be as seated -- staff brings you drinks and plenty of refills, even offering drinks to-go. They will bring you a variety of tasty sauces; my favorite is Grumpy. Pickles and onions are never ending. If you EVEN have room after cleaning your fingers from all the bbq wonderfulness, soft serve is available on your way out. It's great to support a local dining family! What kind of bbq joint is completely out of beef and pork on a Saturday night? Don't waste your time on this place like we did. Drove a long way to get there, waited in line, got to the window and they tell us they're all out of meat. Then we're stuck in line forever. This is ridiculous.
