I am so happy I found Swan Dive Pilates in Northbrook. I have been looking for a way to strengthen my body and straighten my posture. I have some postural problems, and have tried everything under the sun including physical therapy. Without a doubt, my private sessions with Karly have been the best gift I could have given myself and my body! I am starting to see my posture change, am getting stronger, and even look healthier. Karly is very intuitive, and somehow manages to move me forward at my own pace while using cues that help me understand my body and correct muscle movement. I had not tried Pilates before. But, over the years, I have tried all sorts of work out regiments from yoga, to independent weight training, to a range of aerobics and conditioning classes. Swan Dive, and particularly the personal trainer Sheridan Horn, was recommended to me so I thought I'd finally give Pilates a try. Sheridan has a thorough understanding of Pilates equipment - and how to maximize a work out with a finite amount of time. She put me through a challenging and balanced regiment - working through seemingly all muscle groups in a compact time frame. She continuously challenged me to maintain form and basic technique in order to get the biggest payback from the time allotted. The work out was a welcome mix of strength and flexibility - incorporating both resistance and stretching. And, to boot, Sheridan is a delight! Swan Dive provides a is a bright, cheerful work out environment. And its Northbrook location makes it easily accessible from nearby, surrounding suburbs. read more

I took my first lesson at Swan Dive a few weeks ago with Sheridan Horn. I highly recommend her as an instructor for all levels. I'm fairly new to Pilates, so she made sure to tailor the class to my needs. She was very patient, clear and thoughtful in her teaching. All throughout class, she made suggestions to make my movements better, which I really appreciated. She's extremely knowledgeable and was able to suggest certain movements/stretches for certain areas that I had pain with. Also, she's extremely friendly, which made the class go by fast! I got a great workout from her and was sore the next day, which is always a good sign. The lesson was so great that I'm willing to travel from the city to take a lesson from her. I'm coming back for my next class with her this weekend and I look forward to taking many more classes with her in the future. read more

My husband booked me a massage as a mother's day gift. We were from out of town and I was really looking forward to the experience. We were told to arrive 10-15 minutes early (pretty standard). When we arrived early as directed the doors were locked and no one was there. We didn't know if anyone was going to show and the phone number we had just rang inside so there was no one to call. When the woman giving the massage finally did arrive, it was after the appointment time and my husband was already on the phone looking for somewhere else to go. At that point we had been waiting outside for 20 minutes. She didn't apologize for being late. If you aren't going to have staff available to let in clients, don't tell them to arrive early. The massage was fine, but during the massage, the masseuse's cell phone went off twice (she did apologize) and she had to leave towards the end to let in the next client before finishing my massage. I understand that this isn't a full service spa, but it was the little things that killed the experience for me. read more

I have been taking lessons at Swan Dive for about two years now. I had some serious knee problems and have had a near miraculous recovery. Wendy is an absolute genius when it comes to analyzing your body and customizing a treatment plan. Sheridan is a recently trained graduate and classical Pilates instructor eho cohkd give a workd class athlete a great workout and mske it fun fir a 65 year old like me. She has done a tremendous job of improving my flexibility, overall fitness, and particularly my core. I'm actually starting to see my abs and my back spasms are gone. She explained strengthrnjng my pecs would help my back - and it worked like magic! With Sheridan it's really not just about Pilates it's about true body sculpting, training, and achieving your potential overall fitness. Finally Susie does deep tissue release massage, and the entire team utilizes an amazing device called the G-5 to massage sore spots leaving me almost too relaxed to move. After years of fitness training at various studios I would give Swan Dive the highest marks and highly recommend Sheridan and Wendy in particular. read more

I have been working with Sheridan for over a year now, and began working with her when she was a Pilates apprentice in Dallas. She is patient, to the point, and gives me a GREAT workout. Her curing is concise and excellent and I always leave drenched in sweat. Swan Dive is the real deal! Totally professional. I've worked with both owners for years now and am completely hooked. I have also worked with almost all of the instructors. This place is not "fly by night", they're here to stay. The owners are not absentee, they really participate! My particular instructor, Sheridan, gives me an incredible workout. I always wake up the next morning after our sessions feeling the good kind of sore and I've seen my body change in ways I have not experienced from other forms of exercise. I've been going to Swan Dive ever since they've opened. I've seen what the big health clubs offer and it doesn't come close to the quality at Swan Dive. The instructors are so knowledgeable they helped me with my core work and flexibility. I wouldn't think about going any place else and compared to the health clubs the cost is a savings especially for what you get. I have taken one of sons there who lives in DC and he exercises everyday and went back to DC and said the instructors there can't be compared to Swan Dive. I have been working with the team at Swan Dive since they opened. As an injury-prone runner, I appreciate their willing to listen and customize my workouts to help keep my core strong and the injuries away! These ladies are so knowledgeable about Pilates, wellness and beyond. They want to get you and your body to a happy, balanced and strong place. I now live in the city but make the commute for a massage at least once a month. I have been to many spas & fitness clubs in the city for massage and no one compares! Swan Dive is such a great studio! I have been coming here for over 7 months twice a week and absolutely love it. The instructors are great, especially Julie who has been amazing at teaching me how to do Pilates. She is extremely attentive to all her students even in the group class (as opposed to private lessons) where she makes time to ensure that everyone's positioning is correct and that we are all getting the maximum benefit from the class.
