The good: was on time and a fair price. The bad: we were a fairly high end clientele moving to a different state with lots of expensive original art. Despite several reminders and requests that they pack our art properly, it was not done so. Upon unpacking, I found original paintings placed unwrapped in boxes combined with shoes, clothing, dishes, etc. Some of it was damaged, and they denied any wrongdoing despite photos of the way things were packed. Also broken were crystal glasses and furniture pieces. So go ahead and use them if you don't have valuable or delicate things. If you would like quality and attention to detail, I would use someone else. read more

I had relatives that used Swanson to move some furniture and I used them twice. First i had to move out of my house, (i packed all my boxes and wrapped my furniture) Four guys showed up and had my house empty in 2.5 hours. My closing on the new house was delayed twice and they were able to keep my furniture in a truck for almost two weeks. When they delivered to new house there were two guys who unloaded in two hours and put things where i asked them and put together an adjustable bedframe. Both times all were friendly and worked hard. 2nd time I used them to get all my extra stuff from a storage unit. Two guys emptied the unit, traveled 40 minutes to new house and unloaded all items into garage except three pieces i asked them to place in house. All of this done in 2.5 hours. These guys hustle and get the job done safely and efficiently. They were also friendly and handled all items with care. I have recommended them several times and will use them again if i move, which my husband say we are not!! read more

Very unprofessional and disrespectful company they said they will do to door delivery and dropped it in the street

My husband and I hired Swanson's Moving and Delivery for a local move. The July 22 move itself went well, and was done at a reasonable cost. The problem developed when one of the company's employees laid our large, new, $600 mirror flat in a moving truck, and it broke. The owners of the company said they would take care of the problem by hiring a local mirror specialist to fix it, explaining that they would rather not make a claim with their insurance company. I knew this tactic wouldn't work, but I agreed to the delay. Time passed, and no word from Swanson's. I called them back, and they admitted they couldn't find anyone to fix the mirror. Instead they would buy me a new one, from the same company I bought it from originally. Again we waited, and after several more calls, assurances by Dan Swanson that we would be compensated for our loss, and long periods of silence, it is now Halloween and Mr. Swanson no longer responds to my phone calls and texts. Please keep in mind that Swanson's is an acceptable moving company as long as the employees don't damage their customer's property. If you expect to get your money back if they break your stuff, you are in for a huge disappointment. Update: Swanson's replaced my mirror Nov 15. Very slow service, but they finally came through. Recommended to me by word of mouth when I came down to Tucson to close down my folks' winter home for sale; the Swanson family (3rd generation furniture dealers and cross-country movers) are pleasant to deal with, and give excellent service at a reasonable price. I had a great experience with Swanson Moving a couple of months ago. I needed to move all of my stuff in a 2-bedroom duplex from Tucson to Los Angeles. I contacted Swanson, and they were able to give me a quote over the phone as I described my setup. Later in the week, they stopped by to look at things in person and confirmed their first quote: $2000 to move all of my stuff, and an extra $500 to pack it up. The only drawback I had with their service was that they were late by an hour when they were supposed to pack everything up, and late by another hour when they dropped off in California. However, they were extremely careful, thorough, and efficient in packing and moving. They took only about 2.5 hours to pack everything up (and similar to unload) when I had expected it to take 4-5 hours. Very impressed. Do yourself a favor and use them for moving--a great local company and very good at what they do. read more

This company was hired to move me from Kansas City, Missouri to Phoenix, Arizona. I contacted Dan Swanson about setting up the move. He gave me a verbal quote of $3500. He told me he would have to get back to me closer to the time of the move to let me know the exact day and time they would arrive. I asked if he had the ability to help with delivering one of my cars. He said he would do it for maybe $100 or so but he would get back to me. The first communication was on March 6. On March 21 I still had no confirmed date of their arrival and I was set to take the keys of my new house on 4/15. I reminded him via text I was still waiting on a price. He apologized and said he thought he had already sent it. He quoted me $4500 including delivering one of my cars. I said I got someone to drive my car. He replied with ok then we should be at $4200. I reminded him when we first spoke that he quoted $3500. I asked if we could agree on $4500. He said that was good and asked for the addresses again. On March 31, Dan texted me and said he needed my last name and that they would arrive on the morning of the 15th at 7am. On April 12, I sent a text and its Monday and I wanted to check in and make sure what time they would arrive for sure on Thursday. He replied that they were on schedule and would be there on the 15th at 7am. I asked if they wrapped the furniture and he said their moving methods were top secret and laughed. I explained that I had custom furniture that I wanted special care given to. He assured me it would all be fine. Moving day arrives and no one shows up. I sent a text and asked Dan for an ETA. At this point its now 1:04pm. He replied he hadn't heard yet but he would check. I explained this was messing me up pretty good. I had only budgeted for a one night stay in a hotel for us. Dan then said "they'll be there I promise" at 1:19pm. I again explained that I had an 8 year old, a 21 year old that is pregnant and 8 animals. I had to deal with the logistics of getting all of them there without having too many nights in hotels. Finally around 5:30pm, they arrived. Someone named Rick came in, he is the nephew of Dan. He was so incredibly rude I was in shock. He told me that our house wasn't packed and ready and this was a move he would typically walk away from. I explained that while we had some things left to do, there was nothing that would stop them from getting started nor would it be anything that would leave them standing around idle. Reminding him that they were in fact 10 1/2 hours late arriving. Rick was very argumentative and mean. He said that my living room alone was an hour and a half and 15 boxes left to do. It took me 10 minutes - and 1 box. He was so obnoxious I was totally shocked. They loaded the truck for about 3 hours and called it a day. The told me they would arrive the next day at 7:30am. They arrived at 8:30. It took them until around 10 to finish loading. As we finished loading the cars, I asked Rick if they would arrive at our new home before us, because if so, I had someone lined up to let him in. He said oh no - I have to park the trucks for 34 hours - DOT regulation. Now - I wouldn't have gotten this information had I not asked this question. I don't know the why part of the 34 hour wait but what I do know, and I then confirmed later, is that they rolled out of Missouri right then and drove straight PAST Phoenix and went to their home in Tucson. The purposely kept my things on a truck, allowing us to sleep on the floor and wouldn't bring any of our things until Monday. When they arrived, they were still rude. Dave, Rick's Dad, was horrible. He screamed at me and my daughter that we had to pick up the blankets we used to sleep on the floor because "they had shit to unload". They were done in about 4 hours and even though every box was adequately labeled for each room, and each room itself was labeled, they just threw everything anywhere they wanted. I have a huge mess in this house and can't even park in the garage. Every piece of clothing I own, packed in clear plastic totes, is randomly thrown in the middle of the garage, kitchen stuff in the bedrooms upstairs, bedroom décor in the kitchen. This was THE WORST experience I've ever had in moving. I would NEVER recommend these hateful, sloppy, vengeful people to anyone. Many of my furniture pieces are damaged because they were not wrapped. They refused to take my tv's off the wall for me. I'm a widow with an 8 year old and told them this right from the start. Rick is the most uncaring, unkind person ever. Now I have damaged pieces I can't replace and I have to get help getting boxes up the stairs. This was a nightmare. read more

I called Swanson's on Monday. They Moved us on Wednesday. We were a disaster buy they were fantastic. It took five hours to move a house full of stuff across town. If we had been better prepared, I'm sure they could have done it in four or less. I chose them because of Yelp, and I wanted to make sure I spread the word too. Pros and cons: On the positive front, they are set up to offer "full-service" moves, even out of state and are far more affordable and nimble than the large van lines/storage pod options. I was encouraged by the reviews here and liked that they are a family business. Unfortunately, the move was not "full-service". They rushed through the pack up and unload as fast as possible, did not honor our agreements about how we wanted our furniture wrapped, and acted offended or annoyed if I asked for special care for any particular item - rolling their eyes and saying essentially "don't tell us how to do our jobs" and assuring me that they would take care of everything. A very different tone than was offered when we negotiated the move. Some items were packed carelessly and their blankets and truck were dirty. At delivery they didn't take full care of assembling some of the furniture (leaving bed parts off, etc), and left one of my most prized possessions broken after saying they would try to fix they damage they caused by not packing it correctly. Mattresses were dirty and even had a minor blood stain (even though I bought mattress covers - which they kept). I tried to reach them by email and phone about damaged items and received no return message or contact. :( I hate writing this review, as they seem like otherwise nice people. But, I feel like the reviews here unfortunately do not reflect my less than ideal experience. read more

They are a family operation, the price was fair and they could tell me exactly when my possessions would arrive. Relocating to a new state has been crazy stressful, but one thing that I didn't have to stress about was getting an entire household of stuff from point A to point B. I'd heard so many nightmare stories about people's belongings being held up for weeks, items being damaged or stolen, movers that would hold people's stuff "hostage" in an attempt to extort more money out of them, I was a bit apprehensive about hiring a moving company. Our move was complicated by the fact that we were moving our things out of our house into storage in order to do some renovations, then move it again a few months later after buying a new house. I wanted to stick with a small, locally owned company, but most of them didn't do moves out of state. Most moving companies also didn't have the capacity to store things either - they contracted that portion out, adding another set of hands that would be handling our stuff. I interviewed four different companies, and after meeting with Dave the owner, there was no question as to who we'd be giving the job to. Swanson's is a small, family owned and operated company, and the people who handle your move from start to finish are all part of that family. They were extremely careful with our things, expertly handled difficulty items (like our antique upright piano that weighs a TON), and quite efficient. They were also mindful in our home, using caution on the hardwood floors and in narrow doorways that despite the difficulty in navigating, made it through the moving process unscathed. Swanson's has their own storage warehouses, so the same people who were moving our things also housed them until we purchased a new home. They also brought by extra boxes (like wardrobe and china boxes) prior to us packing, which I thought was a nice touch. They were great about communicating, and we knew exactly when our things would arrive. Again, moving in was expertly handled, mindfully executed, and swift. When Dave had concerns that something may have been damaged, he pointed it out to my husband, which shows a lot of integrity on their part (as it turned out, the item was just fine). I have nothing but praise for the job they did. Moving sucks, and I hope not to have to do it again anytime soon... But if I do, Swanson's will be one of the first calls I make. OK I admit it ... these guys are the BEST!!! Family owned and the quality work they do is clearly very important to them. Swanson's picked up and antique hutch, antique marble wash stand and an antique bowl and pitcher set, all very fragile. They loaded in Texas and brought it to Arizona (in perfect condition) for less than a fourth of what other companies charge. These guys are fantastic. Swansons is it for moving in Southern Arizona. Our move from Sauharita to mid-town Tucson was flawless because of their efforts. Rick Swanson even delivered plenty of used and new boxes for us to get rolling...at no charge. They are all family, so the movers are all Swansons and they take pride in doing things right. Moving is never an easy task and we often underestimate the time and effort to get a home packed up and really ready for a move. The devil is in the details. Swanson moved us 4 miles from a rental into our new home. I have to admit that the mover who brought us from Phoenix to Tucson was excellent so my expectations were quite high. I have great things to say about Ryan, the youngest worker, he seemed genuinely concerned about our belongings. The other two seemed rushed, and rough with the furniture and washer, but thankfully there was no damage done. We had been dealing with Rick for the planning and I felt confident with him, but our date was rescheduled (by us) so we got a different team led by Andrew. Andrew was texting most of the time in between loads and that didn't inspire much trust. There were no wardrobe boxes and they didn't bring a cooler for food as I believe I was told they would. We were also told because of insurance they could not reconnect our washer for us, which I don't remember hearing before. (To be honest I did talk to several companies so I might be unclear on these.) There was one mishap with a small marble custom tabletop, Andrew said it "crumbled" when they were carrying it in the truck. Since I wasn't there I can't refute this and I know it had one partial hairline crack, but as I think more about it this it does't seem plausible since the slab had for braces on the bottom holding everything together. But in the heat of the move I didn't examine the breakage so again I can't refute it. Other than this there was no damage and they were finished in amazing time for the quoted price. They also stored (for quite a while) and delivered our new dining table and didn't charge us for putting it together. All being said we are very picky people so I can't really give an A-ok rating although they were close to it. read more

We had an incredible experience yesterday with Swanson's. First of all, I like the fact that they are family owned and operated. I scheduled with one son, the dad called to confirm, and another son did the move. They were on time and sent extra guys, so my son moved apartments in no time. Swanson's is very affordable, so i will never rent a U-Haul again. I called several companies that I found on Yelp, but one sounded unfriendly, one was too expensive, one gave prices that were too good to be true, and one just sounded downright sleazy. We've used Swanson's on two occasions and both times the service was impeccable. The Swanson brothers were very efficient and extremely careful with our furnishings and the challenges were not ordinary -- narrow hallways, 12 foot high railings, stair cases, extremely heavy furniture, and a long driveway. Quite frankly we were concerned about moving our finer things, including expensive art, but they did it well. Nothing was damaged. Wow, Andrew and Dave came and took care of our very small (but critical to us!) job of moving furniture within our house. We had a super heavy desk that we could not move ourselves, as well as some other furniture. Some stuff moved around, some of it we had them haul away. They were so fast and efficient, and very pleasant to deal with. Not one item damaged in any way and they took off their shoes in deference to our new carpeting. They totally rock and were worth every penny (although I did some comparative bids and everyone I got bids from was in the same price range so Swanson's was not more expensive). We were moving from Golf Links and Houghton over to Skyline and Pima Canyon and dreaded the thought of this short move. I called Swansons based upon their reviews on Yelp*. They gave me a firm price up front, showed up on time, packed up a 3,000 sf house in 3.5 hours and had our furniture and boxes in our new house, as requested, by 1:00 p.m. that same day. The difference between other local companies and Swansons is that Rick showed up with 5 of his family members to move our family. They made it a pleasant experience and it didn't feel like strangers were moving our valuables. Not one thing was broken, scratched or dented like we have experienced with other movers in recent years. They are easy to communicate with and had smiles on their faces. This is a professional company that I will use again, instead of our corporate-asssigned national movers. There is no reason for you to look at any other companies. Call Swansons!!! read more

I have just joined Yelp just so that I can be of service to anyone who may hire this moving company. I read the reviews, which were all glowing and hired them for a move from Tucson to California. We had them pack and move us. They are very nice people--it's family owned, but they did a horrific job and we have been waiting on a reimbursement check for 2.5 months. They did a huge amount of damage to expensive and sentimental items, as well as a terrible job packing (very disorganized) and unloading the van. I feel very sad to have to do this, but I don't want anyone else to get stuck with them like we have. I have been lied to about this check for months and have had to file a complaint with the BBB, and fear I may have to take legal action as well. DO NOT hire this company as I believe they are in a state of disrepair. read more

I used them last month for a move to Phoenix. Great service. Nice people. Fair prices. Out of a whole house filled with items (many antique), we only lost one piece of cheap steamware. Everything else arrived in great condition!! And that is AMAZING!! I've done over 5 cross-country moves with large van lines, and I've never had a better experience.
