The cleaning felt rushed and uncomfortable from the beginning. Fluoride was applied before my teeth were cleaned, which I found unusual. The ultrasonic scaling was done very quickly and caused significant pain around my gumline. Several times I reacted to the pain, but the hygienist did not stop or check to see if I was okay. I also felt the cleaning was not thorough. Most of the attention seemed to be on the inner and front surfaces of my teeth, with very little scaling in some areas. My mouth was not rinsed or suctioned often enough, and I could taste blood during the procedure. No mouth rinse was offered at the end. The entire cleaning took less than 24 minutes, and my gums were sore for several days afterward. I have always had wonderful experiences with Briona. She was gentle, thorough, skilled, and genuinely cared about my comfort and oral health. I hope the clinic takes my feedback seriously. The hygienist who worked on me needs to be more patient, gentle, thorough, and attentive to her patients' comfort. Having said that, if I return, I would not want to have this particular hygienist clean my teeth again.

I had lost several front teeth and needed implants, and Dr. Wachtel handled the whole process with such warmth and compassion that it made an overwhelming situation feel manageable. She clearly cared about getting the outcome right -- not just functionally, but in a way that restored my confidence. Dr. Wachtel has since moved on, and the staff from my time there has likely turned over completely -- but what impressed me recently is that the current team was just as wonderful. When I reached out years later needing help obtaining my old records for an ongoing medical case, they were responsive, helpful, and went out of their way to assist me without hesitation. That kind of continuity of care and genuine helpfulness -- even for a patient from years ago with a completely different team -- says a lot about the culture this practice has maintained. We switched to another dentist in the Mission Valley area which turned out to be a big mistake. After reading yelp reviews for dentists in our area we decided to try Rancho San Diego Dental. My wife had an issue with a crown that was done by the previous dentist and so she met with Dr. Christensen on her first visit. After my wife approved of this dental office, a few weeks later I went there for my six-month cleaning. Dr. Christensen is truly amazing. He's calm and is always smiling. He makes you feel like you're in good hands. Last year when I had a root canal, Dr. Christensen called me later that night to check how was I doing. How many dentists do you know that do that? We now recommend Dr. Christensen to all friends and family. Not too long ago Rancho San Diego Dental added a pediatric dentist. We took our kids to meet Dr. Peter Frandsen to see how they would like the new pediatric dentist. To our surprise the kids felt very comfortable there and in fact enjoyed their visit and loved the Lego table. Now our entire family goes to the same dental office! Thank you RSDD!!!

But one assistant who was assigned to my daughter had very little patience. She had dark hair and glasses, I didn't get her name. She inguered my daughter's gum, a small bruise and then got upset when my daughter wasn't taking her instructions well for an X-ray. There is a specific way to work with children, rewording things to get a child to understand you is one of them. And as an RDA myself, I was not too happy with that. Trauma with dental offices start as a child. The other assistant who helped my son was amazing and calm, she was blonde.

I was placed as a last minute appointment, and did not realize I missed a call to me for patient documents and xrays before the appointment , also my husband set up the appointment for me and spoke with the office first ,I thought they had already collected my insurance info and all the pertinant info needed, so by the time i showed up 15 min early , i was under the impression this was taken care of. Doctor Prouse did not engage with me regarding my treatment , he talked over me to his hygienist, who was overall "nice", but really what I experienced was poor bedside manner, I asked for an estimated copay from front desk (Gaby), she said someone else would call me back with this info and they never did, I was told I needed a deep cleaning which is basically more money in their pocket, I have been regularly seen by my previous dentist and have never been recommended anything outside of a regular cleaning. I asked to opt for just a regular cleaning moving forward but the front desk refused to schedule me for it unless it was the deep cleaning, my husband and I both pay for good dental insurance , so I am wary of places that are only concerned about making money off of people. My mom is also a new patient and I am concerned for her well being and this office taking advantage of her. I much rather pay out of pocket to stay with my previous denist, as he is now out of my insurance network. I regret stepping foot in to this unprofessional establishment. On top of that, they wanted to charge me for a no show to an appointment they never confirmed with me. Just feels like a scummy dental office. I have also worked for 2 very great dentists , who have both now since retired, and bedside manner and customer service and patient care is what it should be about. Not whatever this was, I would start with getting rid of the rude girl Gaby.
