I have been to 3 classes and really enjoyed it! I bought the unlimited 2 week package of $40. Natalie was the one who convinced me to try. Better to fail and know than to never do and not know. The heat takes a while to get used to. I am by no means a yoga expert and would still classify myself as a beginner with experience with at home programs. This is intense. This is hot and humid and hurts, at first. About 50 mins in and a few breaks out of the room I was feeling really good about it. I didn't last the entire 75 min first class but that's ok. I will keep at it. By the 3rd class I stayed in the room the whole time and did as much as I was able. They do encourage you to stop when needed and ask for help with a pose if needed and take a break from the room when needed. 3 different teachers and it's all the same style of encouragement. They also recommended when to chill out or not push yourself past your limits. Kelly and Holly are also excellent teachers. The most helpful piece of information about healthily doing this type of yoga: drink water all day and make sure you ate 2 hours prior and it was light meal. Eat after the class. They have showers for after the class and plenty of toiletreies if you don't bring your own. After the first class I realized I needed to be able to change clothes and take a shower because I was too cold leaving on a decent spring day. But that's me. Their showers are immaculate and large they have a large changing room and plenty of storage for your belongings. Update : after the first 2 weeks I bought the 10 class package. I had to have minor surgery the next day and explained that to them so I wanted yo make sure they don't expire quickly. They dont. I came back a week after the surgery and had to start back at square 0. Getting used to the heat is part of the process but once I do it's worth it. read more

I will paraphrase what someone stated below regarding what sets yoga studio apart from other is their amenities, locker room, etc. I would add their services. Starting 2019, I created a new year resolution to practice yoga. I have successfully practiced it since January 2nd. I began their new student month deal last month- and it ended yesterday. First, the class instruction is exceptional for advanced yogis. I enjoyed improving my posture and alignment. I learned much about my yoga. My favorite instructors were: Natalie and Wendi. Natalie taught my first class and many of the classes I attended- she was great. Wendi was always so nice and informative, she was also very supportive. Second, yoga is about listening to your body, being mindful about yourself and the posture, etc. All the instructors require that you perform posture with perfect accuracy. They will call you out if you do not. Some people really appreciate it this type of directive and structured class. This is not the type of yoga that I am use to. This is not to say that I don't like a workout because I do!! I have been part of yoga communities that are very intensive and require a lot of work. However, some instructors were very mean, shaming, made me feel uncomfortable... I did not feel this way because I was doing things wrong, because I feel like I am pretty good but I felt it towards others. Sometimes when people laid down or needed a break and they were literally shamed for taking care of themselves. Things like, "it is not rest time, get up, etc"- Not very thoughtful or compassionate. Third, the amenities-- out of the 3 hot yoga studios this is probably my least favorite. They charge you three dollars for towels- bath and yogi towels and 1 dollar for water. They basically charge you for everything, if you forget your towel, drink, etc-- they will get cha. Another thing, they lock the doors right at class time. There were multiple times I showed up 2 or 3 min late, and I could not come in because the doors were locked. I felt so embarrassed. I also felt like I was not getting my money's worth. Some of the instructors were not the nicest. I can think of one person in particular, I think she has been mentioned in the comments below. Fourth, THEIR TIMES ARE SO INCONVENIENT! They only have three classes during the week, 9:30am , 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm. NO 6AM class ;(- and for people with busy schedules like mine-being a doctoral student, having multiple jobs, etc, it is very difficult to actually come in for class. They only have a couple on Sat/Sun. My favorite aspect about this studio was the instruction. However, the other things have influenced me negatively. I invited a friend and she felt the same vibe. They are very bossy. I want them to correct my positioning if I am doing in wrong, but I do not want them to boss me around or tell me where to put my mat, etc. Overall I would not recommend this studio to a friend. read more

I love this place and I love the owners! They are two sisters that decided to bring a little more peace and relaxation into the world and thus was born a Sweaty Buddha baby. They are very laid back and happy to help you learn and explain things to you as you go along. Hot yoga! I went on Sunday with a friend. Get there a little early to get a spot. It fills up quickly. I brought my own yoga mat but they do have mats and equipment to rent if needed. It is BIKRAM so they use the same poses in every class. The instructor is helpful if you can't get in a pose exactly, they walk around the room and help you. Some other places I have been the instructor is so wrapped up in practicing they don't help. This place is great. Their class schedule is limited. I never understand that with yoga places why they don't offer continuous schedules through the day. No childcare either. read more

This isn't the first Bikram studio to do so, so not sure why this bothers people. Kelly, Wendi, Amanda, & Natalie are first rate instructors who provide compassionate direction. This is my happy place. A long day or stressful work week & my worries and angst literally melt away when I make it a priority to take a class. I was a bit nervous my first class as I wasn't sure what to expect. Don't be. Everyone is very kind and welcoming and the instructors are great- they may gently help you make corrections but they'll never call you out or put you on the spot. The locker rooms as other reviewers have pointed out, are better than most! I'm not one to shower at the studio after a class, as I live right down the road. But if you are heading out after, it's definitely an option. There are 4 showers and they are immaculate! They do a great job of thoughtful attention to details here & I really appreciate that. My favorite class is Hot Pilates on Saturday's. Love! Detox & give your body a treat and check out a class. Sweaty Buddha is a great place to go if you want to do Bikram style yoga in 75 minutes versus the usual 90. And trust me, that extra 15 minutes of your life not in the room can be helpful when planning your day around your workout! The facility is spacious and very clean. The ladies bathroom is equally spacious with 4 showers, several toilet stalls, and plenty of space with hair dryers and toiletries for use if you decide to shower there after class. The hot room is very open and can hold a lot of people. The floor is cushioned, but you still need to bring your own yoga mat and towel for class. They have 3 heating systems in the room, as well as a humidifier so they keep the room HOT and HUMID, as this class is meant to be taken. I've had 3 different instructors since I started going. Everyone has been a great instructor and very thorough. I like the different teaching styles as well. For example, I feel like Kelly is more technical. The woman who taught class today (can't remember her name - so sorry!) had us do 3 poses in a "flow" motion which was a nice way to slightly switch up what you do. So glad I got a Groupon to try this place out! I plan on getting a membership of some sort once that is done. read more

I have virtually no flexibility and recently had elbow surgery. I try and tell the instructor that I'm looking for safe alternatives given my situation. They have been very helpful. I've pulled muscles in almost every other yoga studio. I feel the impact of Bikram Yoga, but not so much that I couldn't go back the next day. I understand that Bikram Yoga doesn't use aides and that they lock doors to protect my belongings. If you are going to be late you can call. I'm a big boy I can deal with a few rules and respect others time by being on time. read more

I have searched for a yoga spot that feels like home, and I finally found it here. It's not a 'judgy' environment. I felt welcomed from the very first time I stepped through the front door. The instructor put me at ease. I felt valued and cared for, and was given wonderful direction from before the class all of the way through to after. I felt encouraged and bolstered up. I love that they go through a true Bikram 'workout' and the flow is the same every time. I'm working towards being able to do "silent" classes as well as basic. But I'm perfectly happy with the extra instruction. The facility is always clean and taken care of. Sweaty Buddha makes me want to make yoga a practice in my life again. I have a lot of chronic pain issues...and that can make getting into a regular movement anything extra difficult. But every instructor has been so understanding. They listen to and answer my questions, and they bother to help me find 'adaptations' so that I can still get as much benefit as possible without hurting myself. They help me work within my own parameters but still extend myself and further my own practice. New happy place for me! read more

The locker rooms are really nice with great amenities. This was my first time trying hot yoga, I enjoyed it! It was hard and the room is stifling but I felt really good afterwards. This studio, like many, is great. What separates the good studios from great ones is the locker room (amirite, ladies) and this is why five stars are not enough for Sweaty Buddha. I stopped in for a Bikram (or their version of it) class on 10/7/17. Wendii was my instructor and also checked me in. I rented a mat and towel. The usual options to rent or buy things you may need before or after class are available. The practice room's flooring is different than what I have previously practiced on. It felt like synthetic material, but it did not become scalding hot during class. It was more padded than what is typical of yoga studios, but not as much as a typical gym mat. It provided enough texture to prevent my mat from moving. It looked brand new and is flooring I would suggest to other yoga studios who may be considering remodels. And, now, the locker room: oh, this locker room. It is sparkling clean, very well ventilated, very well lit, contains all the amenities you could want, and is HUGE. It has four large showers, each with it's own curtained off foyer in front actual (also curtained off) large shower stalls. The shower foyers have wall hooks and each shower stall has ample shelving for your shampoo, razor, etc. The water pressure in my shower was great. The foaming soap in the dispenser smelled and felt like Dr. Bronner's peppermint (which I love). Beside the showers are double sinks in front of a huge mirror. Beside the double sinks are the bathroom stalls (so, the toilets are a long distance from the showers, which is great). In the changing area around the corner is a counter top in front of another mirror, both of which looked at least 8' long. This counter and mirror are across from the cubbyholes to store your stuff during class. The considerable amount of floor space means you aren't on top of each other while getting reassembled after class. As if the great lighting, air flow, counters, and floor space weren't enough, this place has toiletries well stocked, just in case you forget something. They thought of it all. A+ Even if the instructor, class, practice room, friendliness of regular yogis, and overall good vibe of this studio weren't as fantastic as they are, the locker room alone is reason to practice at here. read more

If you are curious, buy the Groupon for a ridiculously cheap price. You won't regret it! I can see weekly changes in my body since I began regular Bikram practice back in February. I am building core strength, focus and clarity of the mind more each day. I have even developed a home practice that i do reguarly. Seriously, this was just what I needed to develop the healthy lifestyle i've always desired. This was my foot in the door, and now i'm busting that door wide open! Outstanding teachers and owners have created a welcoming environment and positive vibe at the Sweaty Buddha. Access at the the end of the work day is a cinch as it is right off the Gene Snyder on Westport across from the Chick Fil A. There is a range of new and veteran people practicing there. The studio is clean, has new hand towels and showers in the locker room. They focus on Bikram and the right side of the room is hotter for those that crave extra big sweat. I find that even being on the left by the windows you get all the benefits of hot yoga without the highest temperature. You get lots of good tips on doing better yoga at your own pace of development. The wind downs at the end with Wendi are especially meditative and original. Perfect end to a day at work and then be home for dinner and relaxed. Drive home is nominal traffic at too. Do yourself a favor and give the SB a try. Here we are on New Years Day 2019. Had a great session of silent yoga which you can go to as soon as you know the progression of the 26 moves and kinda how they work. The owner Kelly was the rudest person I've ever encountered in a service industry. She obviously had a bad day before I got there!! I wanted to use a towel to hold my foot and she basically yelled at me in the middle of the class. When I stopped to tell her that I didn't appreciate it after class she then was even more assertive and told me that "it's not how they do it at her studio and that Choudhury doesnt allow anyone to use a towel." I seriously doubt Choudhury would turn the fans on AND open the door half way through the class, so me using a flickin towel to hold my foot would be the least of his worries. Don't go to Sweaty Buddha unless you want to risk getting yelled at!!! read more

Tried hot yoga a couple of times before at the same location, before it became Sweaty Buddha and was intimidated and didn't really enjoy the atmosphere. A friend encouraged me to try again under the new owners Kelly and Wendii and I am so glad I did. They are so sweet and fun! Also, they have both been super helpful and patient with my questions after class. Here I am in my 3rd month and I am excited to go to my next class, every time. Kelly teaches a 'silent' class with an awesome soundtrack that has quickly become my favorite. I also really like Connie as an instructor, she is encouraging and calm. Although some classes are tougher depending on my energy and hydration levels, I have never been disappointed in a class at Sweaty Buddha. read more

How can anyone not love Sweaty Buddha? The studio is super clean, and showers with soap and hair dryers are provided. The owners and staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming to all. They always guide first-timers with kindness and positivity. Bikram style yoga is indeed intense and not for the faint of heart. There is no need to leave a poor review because the type of yoga is not for you. Also, for the lady that left the negative review, it is considered rude to show up to any class late, especially yoga. I have just begun both group and hot yoga with Sweaty Buddha. I am a beginner in every way. I purchased a Groupon for this place for 20 visits for 31 dollars so I thought what the heck!? I need to lose some weight and get in shape. I've only had two visits thus far and I can say that this place is an incredible establishment. I had never been, so I read the rules and regulations ( A must for a first timer to not make etiquette and other mistakes) and I did just fine! I love the teachers and the class itself. I wouldn't mind a little extra individual instructions as to my pose and form but other than that, I highly recommend!! read more

I love this studio! Sweaty Buddha is a beautiful new studio with lots of natural light from the skylights in the yoga room and cushioned flooring made particularly for hot yoga. Unlike many other hot yoga studios, it is immaculately clean! All the instructors are extremely professional, friendly, and are truly experts. Kelly and Wendy are veterans in hot yoga and this studio has a greater understanding of alignment to maximize the benefit of each posture. I cannot recommend this hot yoga studio enough!! EVERY instructor is helpful and encourages all students to do their best. The studio has rules in order to better your poses and to ensure as little distraction as possible to others in the room. If you want to get the best yoga workout in the cleanest most updated facility this is your place!! Beautiful bathroom/shower facilities too. If you are into leaving early, arriving late, or not following the protocol of when to not drink water (when others are in poses) or not using props to help with poses (hand towels,etc) then this is not the place for you. I personally appreciate advice from the instructors so I can better myself and my yoga practice and not distract others as I would hope they would not want to distract me. read more

Having practiced hot yoga at almost all locations in Louisville, as well as many places around the world (Singapore, Shanghai, Rishikesh, Madrid, Barcelona, Stockholm, Paris, Cologne, Philadelphia, Honolulu and more) Sweaty Buddha is my yoga home in Louisville, and I practice here almost every day when I'm home. Here is what I love about Sweaty Buddha: The teachers are excellent; they are friendly, engaging and professional. They bring no attitude or edge to their instruction, which is a great relief. For this reason, Erin H.'s recent review is off the mark. I was in the class she attended, and can attest that the teacher was very kind in the instructions concerning the use of hand towels during postures, except for rabbit pose. In fact, I was astonished that Erin persisted in her use of a hand towel even after receiving instructions not to. It seems like Erin has an axe to grind because she didn't like being corrected. But back to why I love Sweaty Buddha. In addition to the excellent teachers, I love the studio space and how well the studio is run.
