They had me in and out in 30 mins. No appointment. It sounds amazing. Sweeney gave me options but after I told him exactly what I wanted (sound wise) he pointed me to the mid muffler delete. Rather than trying to swindle me and offer me a $300 exhaust, he sold me on an $80 delete. I am happy with my decision. I will be back in the near future. read more

My number one muffler shop for all my exhaust needs ! I own a bmw f30 and recently had an exhaust system installed but the person that installed it really didn't pay attention to detail. I had rattling and vibration at acceleration. Verne was able to find the issue asap and adjusted the exhaust perfectly! I'd like to call this one "Buyer's Remorse." My experience at Sweeney's Custom Muffler Shop was a huge waste of time and money. Above all, they were not very detail-oriented. I was looking to put a new "cat-back" exhaust on my car, and maybe find a muffler with a little more throaty sound. This was for my weekend car, a convertible. These guys looked like a good place to go based on the Yelp reviews. I met with the owner, Vern, and he recommended I also change out my lead pipe and catalytic converter. Vern custom bent a pipe to fit and welded a performance muffler I purchased from Jegs.com. I later found out the pipe he bent (and charged me $144 for) sells at Midas for about $16. To his credit, he positioned the exhaust tip to look well-integrated to the bumper. Overall the job looked good. But the muffler I chose was way too loud for the car, and it produced a lot of drone (loud humming between 1500-2000 RPM). My mistake. What to do? Go back, right? These guys seemed honest enough. I called Vern to ask if he could put another muffler on the car. He suggested I bring it in on the weekend, and he would do it for $125. When I took it in on the weekend, his assistant Alvin welded a new muffler on the car and charged me $140 ($15 more than what Vern quoted). The new muffler sounded more acceptable at first. But now, it has become obnoxious with drone again, and I've only put another 200 (yes 200) miles on the car. Looking under the car, it really appears to be a hacked job. The muffler tip no longer lines up or looks good like before. The way it sounds, there must be an exhaust leak. For all the money I've spent with them, I wanted people to look under the car and say "Wow, great job! Where did you get that done?" Now, I really feel ashamed of their work. I have spent $762 on this exhaust system, $620 with Vern, and the job has not met my expectations. The Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler they recommended produces lots of drone, and I'm ready to get another system put on, again. Of the $762, maybe $300 of his work I'll actually keep. That's how bad it was. Watch out for glowing reviews here! This place is a "Money Vortex." From the start, this job has been riddled with extra charges, and the latest fix was a huge step back. I am very unimpressed with their work. I would have been so much better off going to Midas! read more

When you drive a lowered car you come to accept that the rest of the world will not adjust itself for you. But when your car is lower than your standards (like me), you must accept the physical abuse that comes with it. In Southern Cali you do not ride the freeway, the freeway rides you. Last night my exhaust fought the 405 freeway, and the freeway won. Punctured a nice goryhole where the O2 bung protrudes (zing). If that's your thing ... would definitely let the exhaust cool down before considering acting on the awful imagery I just put in your head. After getting the runaround from 3 other shops, I was finally recommended to Sweeney's. The minute you pull your car into the plaza, you get the sense that the people here are real enthusiasts that love their line of work. If you love your car (as I do) and have put in the blood, sweat, tears, and time - you're inherently reluctant to let anyone else touch your vehicle. After watching Verne carefully drive my car onto his lift, I knew I was in good hands. There was no need to hawk the workmanship. In terms of customer service - Verne and Alvin were both approachable and friendly. No egos, attitudes, or lectures here. Great communication - I knew exactly what I was getting, at what price, and the amount of time it would take. The repair was done quickly and the price was much lower than I had expected given the caliber of cars that were being worked on. I gave them a little extra (which is something I rarely do), but it was done on the premise that I would hope shops like this to exist in the future. read more

Gonna keep this review short n' sweet. The only reason I ever found myself at Sweeney's oh so many years ago was because dem internets said they were a licensed dealer for Spintech mufflers. I had them put one on my truck, and it lasted for all of a month because I was a picky bitch and wanted something louder. However, I did like the sound, so much so that I recommended two of my friends to come here and put their money into Spintech. Vern was a nice guy, and extremely helpful. Unfortunately I think he needs better employees. I remember the welding work done on my truck was sloppy, comparable to Kenny's in Cypress. The welds looked rushed, and the hangers looked like a hack job. It didn't matter since I had the exhaust redone not too long after, but it wasn't something I would have pointed out to admirers. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick muffler swap (Get a Spintech!). If you're looking for a meticulous, refined piping job then my recommendation would go to Fantasy Muffler. read more

I was having a crappy day. When I went to my auto shop and found out I had poked a hole in my muffler after accidentally driving over a random something in the road, I expected my crappy day to continue and also be expensive. Luckily, my go to mechanics (Saul and Robert at Hiro's Auto) referred me to Sweeney's. I was able to drive right over and although there was a wait, $20 and a super quick welding resulted in an unexpectedly nice twist to my day. What made the difference, though, is really the attitude of the guys there. To be honest, I felt out of my element. This shop is in a crowded parking lot jam packed with cars (a nightmare for a "depth-perception challenged" person like me). The other customers were young guys getting custom mufflers to make their cars louder. Verne and the other great employees I spoke with were kind and friendly. They seemed genuinely interested in helping me and all others who were at the shop. I don't really give five star reviews often. My 2004 Toyota Sequoia has had its catalytic converters cut off twice so last year I had Sweeney's Custom Mufflers build a rebar cage around it. It did the job, all they did this time was one cut until they hit the rebar (night so probably didn't see) and left. It took only 20 minutes this morning for Sweeney's to fix the cut this morning! read more

Verne made suggestions and options to what i can do with it. He was on point. Sounds great! Not loud at all. Not ricey. Just enough . You can definitely hear the difference . It sounds nore like a truck now. I also wanted the exhaust to 90 degree bend and exit behind the rear passenger tire instead of straight out the back. He did that as well and looks awesome. I have had 3 catalytic converters lifted off of my two cars over the last 8 months. The first time, I took it to a dealership where it took them over a day to diagnose the problem. And longer to order the part and fix. The second time, Verne and Alvin fixed it ASAP. My review has nothing to do with mufflers or even cars for that matter. It's based on honesty. I was working on my motorcycle, when not only did I strip a bolt, but also managed to break the reverse screw in half and lodge it inside the stripped bolt that I was trying to remove. My last recourse was to get the handlebar chopped off in order for me to remove the throttle grip. I found Sweeney's Custom Muffler while searching for welding shops on Yelp. Before giving them a call, I admit it was an unusual task for a muffler shop to chop off the handlebar to my motorcycle. But, to my surprise, the person over the phone was willing to do it for a small fee of $20. I drove down to Sweeney's, and in less than 10 minutes the gentleman who I spoke with over the phone was able to chop off one end of my handlebar. Just when I was about to pay, he said he couldn't charge me for a job that he felt was too easy. I was really surprised because nothing these days come free. Anyway, consider this positive review as payment and testament for an honest job, which is pretty hard to come by these days. read more

I just got back from having a new aftermarket Cat-Converter at Sweeney's little muffler shop. I have to say that after all the headache that comes with not passing a test only smog check... I'm relieved that Vern Sweeney (owner), was very polite, had a great sense of customer service and tried to save me money where he could. I immediately noticed that the exhaust sounds a bit louder and has a very slight vibration at very low RPM's, almost idle. The old OEM Cat was two separate chambers and was replaced with a single chamber duel inlet and outlet Cat. So, maybe the different chambers are causing it to resonate a bit differently. I don't mind it though. It sounds good and the price was well under his competition's. I am confident that my next trip there to change out that old muffler will have the same good service. read more

Great experience! My husband is in the automotive industry, and knew this was a reputable and quality muffler company. He was right! My daughter had backed into something, which bent her muffler as a result. Verne told me that he would try to do a simple repair by heating the pipe and repositioning it, but if that was not successful I would need a new pipe. The heating and re-bending worked, so It was a $30 Repair instead of $130. Fast service, fair priced and an ethical owner. It's nice to have a new place I can trust since I know nothing about cars! Al and Verne are very professional and friendly people. I came in with an exhaust system was poorly installed and nearly about to come off the car. I took it to them and they jumped on it right away, starting with trying easy adjustments, pointing out issues and what they would need to do. They had to make 2 cuts into the exhaust system and weld new extensions and in the end I had a nicely fit exhaust system. The whole fix took about 40 min (which I feel is really quick) and the bill was fairly reasonable ($100). I highly recommend them and would definitely go back to them to put an exhaust on my next car. read more

Had a small crack at the resonator which the dealer said would cost $1800 since the entire Y-pipe had to be replaced. But even the dealer recommended finding a muffler shop to fix it so off to Yelp we go. Came across Sweeney's with excellent ratings and called them out of the blue thinking I'd have to make an appointment. Spoke to Verne who said they'd be able to take a look at it and see if could be repaired on the spot or if it had sit overnight to cool down. After reading/hearing about catalytic convertor thefts, I decided this week to get some-type of theft protection. I chose Sweeney's, in part, based upon previous yelp reviews. This past Wednesday afternoon, I went to Sweeney's and spoke to Verne. After the basic questions (truck type?/engine size?), Verne said come back Friday morning. Initially, I mentioned "any day would is fine". Verne countered with "we like to get the cats covered sooner than later". Friday morning, I dropped off my truck. Friday, early afternoon, my truck was ready for pick-up. The price quoted on Wednesday was the price I paid. I highly recommend Sweeney's business. Been coming here since 2000. Got my mustang converted to dual exhaust with Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow. After about 11 years my exhaust finally went out after a few re-welds. Can't believe prices went up. Got Flowmaster 40 Series stainless steel. Didn't realize it was the original 40s instead of the Delta Flow 40s (DF 40 = Quieter inside the car). Boy those original 40s are louder than the Delta 40s. Should of just ordered the Flowmaster Super 44's with stainless steel. But Vern does a good job and my exhaust hangers don't show this time. If my car was a V8, these Flows would be rumbling in the Bron...ummm South Bay. read more

I bought a set of retrofit OEM M mufflers for my 650i BMW from a dealer online. I thought it would be a bolt on application, "Boy I was wrong". The directions show that I must first cut off the existing mufflers, I do not have the tools or the time to do this type of work so I called South Bay BMW, the first appointment was two weeks out and a cost of over 200.00 to install. I was anxious about getting them installed sooner, so I Yelped and called Sweeney's and spoke to Vern, Very nice down to earth guy. He told me to stop buy and he would take a look. Sweeney's Is hidden in the back of this repair shop row so you got to search for it. The place was very busy but still Vern came out with a smile and didn't make me feel rushed. He spent the time and answered all my questions. I was worried because I didn't want my car damaged or void the warranty. I waited around for about 30 min. It took about 30 min to install, Measured, cut , swap parts, install, then spent the remaining time centering the exhaust tips. PERFECT INSTALL! They even help me cover the old mufflers before putting them in my trunk to prevent getting my carpet dirty. I am a happy customer, Charged me a 1/4 of what the dealer would have charged me, and same day service. What more can you ask for. I will be returning again, Thanks Guys! read more

This place is an absolute life saver! A couple days previous to when I came here I went to a shop that installed my muffler for cheap. But I unfortunately found out that they put my muffler on the opposite way, used smaller diameter piping when larger diameter piping was required and their welds were completely awful. A good friend of mine recommended me this place after he also had a terrible experience at the shop that I stated above. I called Sweeney's up and they were super calm and professional with me on the phone and gave me a quote right on the spot. I went to the shop later on that day and they gave me many options what I can do to my exhaust. If I would like to fix it or get something even better. I ended up getting a custom 3 inch exhaust for my truck and getting a cold air intake installed that I had sitting around. They also fixed my trailer wiring adapter free of charge! Not only does my truck sound great, but it runs better than it ever has! I really am grateful to find this place because their level of professionalism and craftsmanship has really made them stand out from the other shops. This is a no-frills shop that gets the job done correctly the first time. If you are looking for a nice customer waiting area with "amenities", this is not the place for you. But if you don't mind dropping-off your vehicle for repairs, then let Verne and his partner work their magic! Observing them working on my vehicle was like watching a well synchronized team, efficient, thorough, and safe.
