A friend recommended that I consider Sweet Beginnings for my wedding desserts. I went to just pick up some cupcakes to try before placing an order for my wedding and I'm glad I did. My fiance and I tried a ton of cupcakes-- oreo, yellow with chocolate, vanilla, lemon, carrot cake, and red velvet. We also got a chocolate chip cookie type thing with mousse-- we were thinking of getting a cookie cake for the wedding, so I figured this would be pretty close to it. It pains me to write this, but my fiance and I just think everything was ok. The cupcakes were very moist and I loved the chocolate frosting, but it was nothing really spectacular. I was super disappointed with the oreo cupcake because the base didn't taste like much besides vanilla. The only part that I really didn't like was the chocolate chip cookie thing. I tried it without the mousse and it was dry and just not my favorite. I hated writing this review because the staff was sooooo nice and the prices were reasonable, but it had to be said. read more

I couldn't be happier with the cake and pastries we got from here. We got a small cake for cutting, cupcakes, and a ton of min-pastries for the breakfast the following day. Everyone was raving about their food and asking where the cupcakes came from. They were easy to deal with and almost stole the whole show! Absolutely incredible and we will definitely be coming here for all of our future dessert needs! My only notes for them would be: It would be awesome if they could provide a vegan option someday! Sweet Beginnings is a cute little bakery located on Delaware in the Kenmore area. I've passed by this bakery multiple times but have never been there before. I ordered a 6" white cake with lemon filling for a birthday. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. It was only $15.50 which I believe was a reasonable price because the cake was THICCCCC. The cake was moist and not too sweet. I would've preferred a little more lemon filling because I felt the ratio was off. The frosting was too sweet in my opinion so take it down a few knotches and it would've been perfect. 5 stars for SURE. We were next door for an event at Board and Brush and figured we'd stop in for a little treat since we were nearby. The selection of desserts readily available in their cases was amazing! (it was a saturday). It was hard to pick from the wide variety, so we ended picking out FOUR (a birthday cake funfetti cupcake, a "downtowner" with apple bits in it, a huge eclair, and a chocolate chip cookie cup loaded with frosting. I kid you not, EVERY single thing was absolutely amazing and tasted super fresh. The fresh part was my biggest concern, b/c I've had issues with other bakeries having super old, stale, gross items in their case (Dessert Deli, I'm looking at you - literally tried them FIVE TIMES and every single time, their desserts in the case were OLDDDDDDDD and gross). Sweet Beginnings was amazing and shockingly, not crazily priced! We got 4 BIG desserts, all packaged beautifully individually, for a total of $15.xx with tax. Amazing! read more

It was a small bakery by Delaware Ave. and was overwhelmed with the huge varieties of their baked goods. We stopped by yesterday and people keeps coming in nonstop (but still following the protocol). They mostly buy their cupcakes and loaves of bread. I'm a little unhappy when they said they already did the cut off for the cake orders 3 days ago, and They're also closed today (Easter Sunday) until April 13th. Since they're not gonna be open for a while, We tried few of their pastries, Peanut butter mousse pyramid and Eclairs with bavarian cream... Both were delicious and reasonably priced. So much filling in the eclair and not too sweet. Customer service are very friendly and accommodating. I will definitely be back and hopefully I can order their cakes. read more

I really hate writing anything other than stellar reviews but unfortunately this place just didn't hit the mark for me. The person who served us was very awkward and unfriendly. She made the experience quite uncomfortable and even when I tried to crack a joke to cut the tension, she didn't even smile. She seemed irritated that we were there. We ordered a few cupcakes which no one in the house ended up eating. The scone type cookies were OK but even 2 out of the 4 were left untouched along with the cupcakes - they were sort of flavorless and a bit dry. I did like their blueberry crumble tarts(?) and PB bombs (not sure if correct names) - but overall allot of it didn't have much flavor and a bit disappointing since I had high hopes from reading reviews. read more

Ok, so I haven't seen the cake yet but this business agreed to make a birthday cake on short notice despite the 4th of July holiday when every other area bakery told me to choose from the premade cakes on display. Last May, I attended a birthday party that had a cake from here, and it was SO good that I knew I had to remember it for my son's first birthday party this year (so good in fact that I ate 3 slices at that party!!). I ordered one for this weekend, and it did not disappoint!! They were very easy to work with, allowed me to send designs I liked, and made it pretty easy. We had a dinosaur theme so I was able to get a fondant dinosaur, fondant eggs, and a fondant 1. They can do any flavor cake, and while I wanted to go crazy, I also wanted it to appeal to the masses so I got Funfetti with strawberry mousse filling and vanilla buttercream. I am terrible with spacial relations so I accidentally ordered a much too larger for us size, but I don't mind because I get leftovers!! This cake was absolutely massive and it was not expensive at all for how much cake we got and how it was decorated!! I was very impressed. It tasted so good and the whole party loved it. Got a half sheet cake for a Birthday. I emailed pics and even spoke to owner about the look I wanted. Cake was extremely limited with decorations! Very disappointed since it was for an 80th Birthday party. The cake was also very tall which is fine...BUT had only ONE thin line of filling in it. This bakery was a great option for last minute Valentines Day cupcakes. I decided to pick up a couple cupcakes and cookies to enjoy for Valentines Day with my husband and to give a few to our neighbors. They didn't have a very large selection of cupcakes so I was a little bummed about that, however it was I. The afternoon on Valentines Day so I'm not sure if they were just running out or if they usually have a smaller selection. The bakery boasts a large menu of desserts ranging from the Italian classic fig to the new age cookie cup and the fancy wedding cake. When you walk into the shop, there are three large glass displays with a variety of cookies, scones, fruit and nut filled rings, cookie cups, large and small cupcakes, brownie cups, cakes, and even meat pies. If you have an event coming up, you may special order something. When you walk in, there are four sheets that allow you to custom order your dessert. I made three recent trips to Sweet Beginnings. On my first trip, I purchased a cookie cup topped with a chocolate mousse. The cookie was soft and delicious. The mousse was absolutely fantastic- super creamy and light. On my second trip, I purchased a brownie cup topped with a chocolate mousse. The brownie was also soft, but between the cookie and this, I prefer the cookie. I also placed an order for 6 custom cookie cups. On my third trip, I picked up my order of 6 custom cookie cups. I had the cookie topped with peanut butter mousse, chocolate mousse, and vanilla mousse. So far we've only tried the chocolate and peanut butter. The peanut butter mousse, wow, it's super rich and taste like pure peanut butter. Although the bakery only made 3 cups, the owners were able to put 3 more cups together in about 5 minutes. Overall, I've been very pleased with Sweet Beginnings. I highly recommend their to-go desserts and custom order ones too. You will not be disappointed! read more

They did the wedding cake for my sisters wedding. They were so easy to work with and they made the cake she envisioned for her special day. The price was right and it was perfect. I've been coming here sporadically over a year and I gotta say their breakfast pastries (especially the almond ring) are the superstars here. I've had the Thanksgiving Dinner (my favorite so far) and the French Onion Soup. An all around horrible experience. I ordered a cassata cake for a birthday dinner. A cassata cake is made with ricotta cheese and chocolate chip filling. Apparently they use whipped cream filled with "some" ricotta. I was not told this when I placed my order. The cake was not good. There was no ricotta flavor or texture. I assumed that I received the wrong cake. I called to say that I believed that I got the wrong cake and this is when I was told that they use whipped cream. The person on the phone argued with me about what a cassata cake is and asked me "what the fuck I wanted." So I spent $42 on a lousy cake and got sworn at. Totally unprofessional and crazy. So if you want an overpriced, no flavor cake with a a side of verbal abuse this is the place for you. RIP Sweet Beginnings, this is the end! read more

So glad I did NOT listen to them on cake size. I told them I had a 25 person wedding. They suggested a 12 inch round. My Mom did not think that would be big enough. I ended up ordering a 2 tier cake not sure what the round sizes were. They person helping me said that would feed 40 people. At my wedding I ended up having 4 left over pieces of cake. Broken cookies!!! Ordered 4 dozen cut out cookies, found 7 broken upon transfer to platter. This is not acceptable. Bakery claims they broke in transit, perhaps they did, but we were very gentle with the boxes. I've transported many many cut out cookies before, never with this issue.
