This cute shop is big and spacious relative to a lot of other bakeries. In addition to cupcakes, brownies, and other treats, they also sell specialty ravioli, spaghetti sauce, and flavored vinegars, I'm assuming from local companies. I picked up a brookie cake - brownie in the bottom, cookie on the top for Father's Day. It looks great, and if the cupcake I had is any indication, it will taste great, too. A couple of cupcakes caught my eye. The blackbird is a chocolate caramel cupcake I have to try next time. Today I tried the dove, a vanilla caramel cupcake I have to have again some time. It was the perfect flavor and texture. Not too sweet, fluffy yet moist with a hint of buttery goodness. If they have a plain butter cake, I'd love to try that, too, because I think they may nail a flavor I haven't been satisfied with since I was a kid. Excellent service. read more

Wonderful place on Hertel. It shares a space with some other kinds of products, but Blackbird is the star. I appreciate the quality of the products. The cupcakes are quite good and have a great ratio of cake to icing (some places overdo the icing). The buckeye cupcakes are great and I crave them once in awhile. Also, random - they have a great sprinkles collection. I don't use sprinkles very often, but it is nice to have them once in awhile, so having a bag of special ones makes things even nicer. read more

Blackbird Sweets and The Pasta Peddler are together. During COVID-19, they are offering free delivery of their products. In early April, I took part in this. The ordering process online was easy. The confirmation told me my order would be delivered on a Saturday between 11am and 8pm. I ordered the cookies sampler, and the sugar cookie bar. The cookie sampler contained three cookies; chocolate chip, peanut butter, and funfetti. They were all delicious. The sugar cookie bar was out of this world. I highly recommend this bakery. I need you to stop what you're doing and go to blackbird. Everything I've had from there is delicious!! The funfetti cookies, soft, chewy and flavorful. The chocolate cookies in the "build your own cookie sandwich", delicious and such a cute idea. All of their cupcake the vanilla, the blackbird, the peanut butter, the red velvet are some of the best cupcakes I've ever had in my life and I eat A LOT of cupcakes. What to get: Mini Cupcakes Why: Because they're cupcakes I came here to buy some baked goodies for a few special women in my life, such as a female Yelper that keeps asking me to take her to a piano bar, and her awesome cute roomie, and also my BFF. My sister is greedy and said the cupcakes here are good. So we stop in. BAYBEE when I tell you them cupcakes were GOOD, I mean words cannot express the joy that occurred in my mouth after tasting them. I had the Dove cupcake, Red Velvet cupcake, and a cinnamon coffee cake (don't judge me). Listen to me, think about the happiest time you've been in your life and imagine that feeling in your mouth. I live in Maryland but when I go home to visit I WILL BE GOING BACK. The owner, I think she was the owner, I was too focused on the sweets. She was WONDERFUL, very personable, and cheerful. This morning for breakfast I had a Buffalo Bills bagel stuffed with cream cheese and chives from Blackbird Sweets. My daughter brought it to me the night before and I placed it in the fridge for morning. I sliced it open and was surprised at the generous amount of filling. Then put it in the air fryer for about 5 minutes. When done it reminded me of NYC bagels. Just perfectly crisp yet so soft inside, not tough. Love this place! The birthday coffee cake is sinfully delicious and every employee I've interacted with has been gracious and friendly. The cupcakes are a good size, fairly priced and come in appetizing flavors but...that coffee cake though you won't want to share it and that's okay. This bakery is outstanding! I bake so I'm pretty fussy... I tried a frosted brownie- so moist and is real chocolate in the brownie and the frosting. I went several weeks ago to get a cupcake (the Blackbird), which was delicious. The staff was friendly and the store inviting. I went back recently to pick up a cake I ordered over the phone. It absolutely exceeded my expectations and my girlfriend (whose birthday it was) adored it! The red velvet cake was delicious, moist, with good balance of cake to icing, and importantly, The decorations were unusual and crazy fun! That said, prices also seemed quite reasonable. We are so lucky to have this little cake shop in North Buffalo, right in the midst of busy Hertel, a click away from home. I love the mini cupcake boxes for sale because it gives you the opportunity to taste four different kinds of cupcakes. I have tried pretty much all the cupcakes here and none have disappointed. Today we decided to go a different route and try a chocolate cake parfait and a birthday cake parfait (it was a buy one get one free deal with a total cost of $5). So so yummy. Less sweeter than a cupcake since the icing is replaced with a creamy custard and that created a perfect balance with the sweet, moist cake. My goodness. I called blackbird sweets a week ago to order cupcakes for a gender reveal party on December 30. Never returned my call. So I stopped there today. The owner was extremely rude and short with me. She was obviously it very busy making cookies which were far more important to her than a live customer in front of her. She informed me there were closed all week and would not be open December 30-January 6. She said she. Oils t possibly take an order from me to make cupcakes for me to pick up this weekend. Now I have no time to order from anyone else. I don't understand how for the two weeks surrounding g. Heist as and New Years, a local business is only open two days and won't take any orders and does not have the courtesy to return phone calls. She yelled at me and acted like I was crazy for wanting to order from her. She's right. Anyone would have to be crazy to order from this local business. I stopped at dashes and for 1/10th the price, bought supplies to make my own. I don't recommend this business to anyone. read more

Take ALL of my money! I am back again to say this place is amazing! I always get stuff from this stand every year at Christmas in the Country and I am never disappointed. They didn't have the s'mores rice cereal treats this year ( super sad faced) but I decided to try the fruity pebbles bar and the chocolate peanut butter bar and OMG the chocolate peanut butter was really really great! The fruity pebbles bar was good too!...I also Purchased a few of the mini coffee cake ( not sure of the exact name) and while I figured they would be dry ( as coffee cake tends to be, they were so moist and delicious even daaaays after I bought them. The woman that works the stand during the day is really great and friendly too! I absolutely cannot wait until next year because I will certainly be trying the cupcakes as well as all of the other stuff. Ridiculously delicious! Tried a S'mores Rice Krispie treat made here but purchased at Christmas in the country and it is an impossibility that something like that can taste THAT freaking delicious . I don't even like s'mores flavored anything but I figured it really makes sense for a flavored RKT and buying it was best decision I've made in years. It's thick, and soft and chewy , it manages to capture the graham flavor perfectly while not being overly sweet or fake tasting. I ate this almost 24 hrs ago and I still cannot stop thinking about it. My only regret was not buying more, or trying the cupcakes! Don't miss out on this bakery! read more

I decided to try cupcakes here for a little birthday celebration. I was pleasantly surprised! Great, innovative flavors that are well executed. We tried lemon mixed berry, pumpkin pie, blackbird (chocolate cake, cream cheese frosting, caramel drizzle), caramel apple pie, caramel macchiato and buckeye (see photo). Buckeye was my favorite with caramel apple pie as a close second. The frostings are a bit sweet but still delicious. read more

Came for cookies, which they didn't have any, but the cinnamon crumb cake was the perfect size and phenomenal in taste! We got 6 cupcakes as well. My son just ate the orange cupcake and said he loved it. In fact, he's the one that told me to make sure to write a review cause he loved it so much. Highly recommend!!! This store moved from CT street (Horsefeathers Market) to Hertle a few weeks ago. Bigger space. Some cute tables to sit at. Nice selection of cupcakes and other treats, some gluten free. You can get regular size cupcakes as well as her "mini" ones. There are also various brownies and other bars available here. She's made the space welcoming and pleasant. They plan to have some birthday parties and other small gatherings in the space. This is a nice addition to Hertle. Same side as Kostas 2 doors down. Street meter parking. read more

Blackbird Sweets & Pasta Peddler share the same storefront on Hertel Avenue. Blackbird Sweets has a variety of fresh pastries made on the premises. My father loves their coffee crumbcakes. They don't last long in the fridge because he can't resist them. As a gluten sensitive person, I love Blackbird's outstanding chocolate-chip cookies and date bars. I recommend that you call ahead to check if their gluten-free options are available that day. Though I can't eat their other pastries, the cakes and cupcakes look beautiful and delightful. Judging on what my father and I enjoy, I assume those are just as good. And yes, you can buy coffee on the premises. I enjoy talking to the owner, Andrea. Usually I learn something about food. I've been here on numerous occasions. I've had cookies and cupcakes and crumb cakes and rice krispy treats. All have been delicious. You can just taste that everything is made with quality ingredients and lots of love. The setting is absolutely wonderful and the service is friendly and welcoming. This is my favorite place for cupcakes and cakes. I order every year for my sons' birthdays. Cakes are always moist and perfectly decorated. The desserts here are wonderful. I've tried the cupcakes, the crumbcake and even cookies. They have all kinds of favorite flavors, plus they even Corn and Jalapeno cookies? Yup! Everything is moist and full of flavor AND there is no skimping on the frosting here! A quaint little shop on Hertel near Kostas. Parking out front. There is limited seating and some local coffee. The presentation was 1/5, the price was a 2/5, and we liked 3 of the 5 flavors. Maybe it would've been better if we could choose our flavors. The coffee and the London fog flavors were phenomenal enough to carry this entire review. I would consider going back for specific flavors, especially the espresso one.

They had six flavors: sangria - fruity, wine; honey whiskey - topped with a Biscoff; piña colada - not pictured because I skipped that one; mojito - lime and rum; black forest - chocolate cupcake with boozy cherry; peanut butter whiskey - also a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Presentation and toppings were all really lovely and looked delicious. Super creative concept all around. Most of the cupcakes were yellow or white cake, the rum, whiskey, and wine were noticeable but not strong. So you knew they were there, but not overwhelmed. Some people might actually want them to be stronger! The flavors in general were subtle but clear. The frostings were all pretty light and pleasant, which is nice. I know there's a lot of people who really like dense buttercream and cream cheese frostings and for whom cupcakes are a frosting delivery vehicle. These are not those. Plenty of rich and delicious frosting for the cupcake but not too much. The cupcakes are not following the super sized trend; they're a nice cupcake sized cupcake. This makes it easy to rationalize eating two at a time because, um, you wanted to compare flavors. Yep, that's totally why. I liked all the flavors I tried, but was surprised that my favorite was the chocolate peanut butter and my second favorite was the mojito. Only comments would be there's some variability as to the moistness or dryness of the cake part, and the filled ones could use more filling. The people at the pop-up (I forgot to ask if they were the bakers/ owners) are really nice and happy to answer any questions or customize an order. As you can tell by my substituting an extra black forest for the piña colada. They'll be back at the Broadway Market for Dyngus Day!

Cuccidati Inc. had a booth at the event ... and they had me at the word "cuccidati". :-D LOVE these cookies! If you are unfamiliar, cuccidati are iced-and-sprinkled fig-filled Italian cookies. They're like a soft, delectable, gourmet, top-shelf, high-class, prettier Fig Newton, but way better, haha. Whenever I see an Italian cookie spread at a gathering, I always b-line for dibbs on the cuccidati. And Cuccidati Inc.'s cuccidati did not disappoint! These were a bit different from cuccidati I've had before. They weren't quite as sweet, not as thick-white of an icing as usual. And the filling seemed more natural, like more purely fig, as opposed to the more artificial extract flavor of some cuccidati. I do like the creamier cuccidati filling I'm used to, with more of a jam consistency. But these were good too, you could feel chewy bits of real fig fruit in each bite. If you prefer a cookie that isn't too rattle-your-teeth-sweet, you will probably enjoy Cuccidati Inc.'s cookies very much. We spoke with the owners when we were at the fresh-air market, and they were very sweet and friendly. They of course bake their namesake, but also bake many other cookies too.
