I can't say I would come back & try this restaurant again. So I went during HH (5-7PM) two drinks on the menu for $10 & house wines. I got the kid creole, the drink was more on the bitter side & the taste was peculiar. The cornbread was $5 on HH so I tried it as well, it was dry & cold. The butter didn't make it more edible. Everything on the food menu seemed so good I wanted to try it all. After looking at other reviews, I decided on the safe option of the fish sandwich, catch a something (lol). The Cajun fries were good. The fish itself was thinly cut, it had no flavor & the fish filet was falling apart in the bun. I had more extras on the sandwich than I had of fish! Idk if the fish sandwich had melted American cheese on it but it ain't seem like cheddar either, I h8 American cheese. I was thankful either way because with the fish being bland that cheese did its job. There was a hostess & a waiter only. Then there was some kitchen staff. The waiter, Wade, was also the bartender like he was wearing about two to three hats up in there. The restaurant is small but decorated cutely. The music was good as well. It's a really nice restaurant, small and intimate and we were able to vibe with the folks sitting around us (shout out to Nicole and Christiana). This is based on the winter 2023 menu - Apps: the cornbread is delicious, crab dip and plantain chips were really good, as was the Thomas Downing broiled oysters but you only get 4. Mains: the winner of the evening was the shrimp and grits (not my meal). The fried lobster and shrimp corn cake waffle was good too (not my meal); and I had the seafood pasta. My food was cold-ish and the pasta wasn't seasoned enough for me but the shrimp and scallops in the dish were perfect - the lobster was missing something. But we had a good time, the cocktails (which I don't normally consume) were good as was the Cabernet (bottle). I'd go back and try again. read more

Unfortunately, the food completely missed the mark. The lobster was extremely fishy and over cooked. The Branzino was severely undercooked, we order 3 branzino's and we had to show the waiter all three, it was very scary and gross. The service was good, he offered to have them recooked but we declined because 1. the food took forever to come out in the first place (seemed like there's only 1 person in the kitchen at the time - it was a Friday night) 2. Very different vibe than normal as the chairs and tables were all removed for the mass abundance of people that were coming and going on this particular day. We enjoyed the crab dip and as an entree, I had the seafood pasta with blackened salmon and shrimp- opted out of scallops as I'm allergic, but it was very flavorful, and the pasta had the right amount of lemon butter cream sauce. I made reservations to have a girls night with some friends. Our reservation was for 7pm, but I arrived a bit early. When I got there I noticed a lot of patrons were only at their table with drinks only. I observed the host at the door, not only check in patrons, but take orders, both food and drinks and I knew I was in for an interesting evening. By the time my friends and I were seated; I made them order drinks right away as there were people seated before us that still didn't have their food or even apps after I was waiting for my friends for about a good 20 minutes. There was only one bartender and one cook in the kitchen. When we ordered our appetizers and entrees we were already on our second round of drinks. Our appetizers came about after 8pm. We ordered the oysters, Cajun fries, crab dip and cornbread. The Cajun fries seemed to just have some sort of seasoning sprinkled on them. The cornbread was dry. The crab dip was tasty but the ratio of dip to plantain chips was quite excessive. We didn't get our entrees until about after 9pm. I ordered the shrimp and grits, one of my friends had the seafood pasta and the other the Branzino. By the time she had her food it seemed the rice was prepared before the fish so it was cold. Plus there was this sauce that wasn't appetizing (and this girl loves her a Branzino). My shrimp and grits was more grits than shrimp. Once again the grits to shrimp ratio was off nor was there any gravy and I had enough grits to create a second meal. My friends pasta ratio was also off especially given the cost of $36. While the host/waiter did check in with us from time to time to tell us the food would be coming in "5 minutes" that always turned into 20-30 minutes. By the time we got our check it was almost 10pm after being seated by 7:15pm and ordered. Further the automatic inclusion of a 18% gratuity for parties for one or more is a bit egregious, especially given the service and the food. The drinks were tasty and this restaurant came at a recommendation of a friend and her experience was completely opposite of what occurred to me. I don't see myself returning. I hope there are changes made to the service, and food servings. read more

Went to Sweet Catch on a cold rainy Saturday 12/28 after making a 12:15 reservation. I walked into an empty restaurant that only had 2 couples seated separately from each other. When I said that I had a reservation the young girl who was clearly new went to speak to who I assumed to be the manager/hostess (Kayla). Kayla told her to sit me and my guest (another party of 2) 1 table away from the door. When I asked if I could be seated ANYWHERE else in the empty restaurant, I was told that we could go to their patio area. I declined going to the patio because it was cold and rainy! So we sat at the aisle table that was near the door. Our waitress and the other staff was rather pleasant and the food was good. Then another party of 2 walks in with no reservation (I know because we were seated by the door so I heard the conversation) and the same new girl looked for Kayla to find out where she should sit the new guests. Kayla was no where to be found so the new girl asked a gentleman who seemingly worked there longer and he told her to sit them against wall (a seat that I would have appreciated). We asked if that was always an option to which the young laughed it off saying "I guess so" and asked if we wanted to move to be seated in between 2 other couples. We declined, as that would make the space in an already small restaurant a little too tight for anyone's liking. Then another couple enters the restaurant again getting a seat away from others. Annoyed but trying to maintain composure because the food was good and the people serving us were nice, I bit my lip and chose not to make a "thing" out of the seating. My guest and myself ordered the 90 minute bottomless mimosas, 2 appetizers, and 2 entrees. With 30 minutes left and a full carafe of mimosa on our table, a DJ began to set up right on top of our table. This definitely didn't sit well with me. And again we asked our server if we could be moved. She said she didn't see why not but let her go make sure. After 10 minutes, Kayla walks over and tells us that our request to be moved could not be obliged. Instead of causing a scene, we immediately asked for our check and told Kayla that no other conversation needed to be had. When the $174 check was placed on our table that had auto gratuity for a party of 2, I didn't make a fuss because the people that actually served the food deserved the tip. I put $180 cash down and finished my mimosa. One of the gentlemen that worked there asked if we were done with the check and if he could pick it up. We said yes, he took the check and we left the restaurant appalled at Kayla's attitude. You would think that the story would end there with us just complaining to each other about Kayla's horrible leadership/ability to do her job effectively. But no! There is more! Remember I said we made a reservation! A half hour after leaving in the midst of running an errand, Kayla calls. Not to apologize but to ACCUSE US OF WALKING OUT ON THE CHECK!!!! I am 40+ and have never walked out on a check a day in my life, but this girl has got me completely messed up. When she was told that we didn't and relayed that the gentleman (who we later found out was a bartender) took the check she tried to brush us off the phone! No, no, no Kayla you needed to get that work. After a discussion about the audacity she has in calling with such an accusation after she was so incredibly rude while we were there, she now wants to rush off the phone and go speak to the staff at the restaurant. Isn't that what you should've done before calling me???? Who makes a reservation with their contact information then walks out on the check???? She then tries to justify her comments by asking if we tipped!?!? Girl, your restaurant has auto gratuity!!! She said that there was $7 left in the table which is why she assumed we walked out. I guess it was too much to think that not only did we pay cash but we left more than the bill directed and the bartender was just bringing back the change but we were gone before he could bring it back (I guess another reason you should speak to your staff). We requested a phone call back after Kayla spoke to the staff and found the money that we left for our food. She called back and confirmed that she did indeed find our money and tried to apologize. She was told to never call again. Needless to say I will not be returning to Sweet Catch.... 10 out of 10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! Kayla, get another job this is not in your ministry. I so wanted to love this place! It's black owned and woman owned. Me and my husband made a reservation. We were seated on time, we ordered apps, entrees and drinks plus a side. People who came in AFTER us received their apps and drinks before us. I had to flag down someone to get our drinks. Then they brought our app out and shortly after they brought my husband entree out. I had to flag someone down again and say that I didn't receive my entree. This annoyed me because why bring one entree and not the other , I had to flag the server down and say hey I never got my entree. The server who I gave my order to ask me what did I order ? Then stated oh I know what happened the waffle it was too dark, and they only have two waffle irons. Mind you people had waffles around me, that came after me. Idk I truly think she forgot. I received my entree about 20-25 mins AFTER my husband received his. Food: 6/10 I had the cornbread waffle with shrimp and chicken. It was boneless dark meat chicken which wasn't terrible but it was small and felt cheap. The shrimp were good though , they should offer that alone. My husband had the omelette meal and felt like it was nothing special. The restaurant is small and nice and clean ! They had a dj so that was a plus. The only thing I didn't care for is as soon as we came in a man was recording BUT this is the age of social media so I'm not surprised but he recorded us walking in and it was strange. Overall they were friendly, the lady in the lumberjack coverup was sweet she worked the room and I even saw her go and buy a coloring book for the table that had kids. Came to Sweet Catch for brunch to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had a party of 11. I was a bit concerned because the kitchen is a bit small, but they pushed out big finger-licking food out that kitchen. We all received our meal in a timely manner, and we received it all at the same time, and it was HOT. Sometimes when restaurants have small kitchens the food doesn't all come out together and if it does its not hot well that certainly wasn't the case at Sweet Catch.
