We come here so often that one of the ladies knows me and my partners orders which is super nice because it just shows they actually build relationships with their customers! Though we do alternate our orders anything from their esquite (customizable), any of their drinks, fresas con creama, mini pancakes, etc. they were all very good in my opinion! The place is always clean and I love the small table outside of their store where you can just sit there and eat for a lil bit, I'm not of a "in a rush" type of person so I'll eat outside, their store area is pretty nice too especially assortment of chips!

Worker was so friendly although didn't speak much English. It looks like they're expanding the store but it was very warm inside on a cold winter day. No public restrooms. Lots of options!

Local to Des Moines, we love coming to this place. Speaking Spanish is a plus... My son (mi nino) likes the mini pancakes with just the syrup. I always get the bionico with mango and strawberries. It's the fruit with cream, granola, coconut, but no pasas...no raisins... My wife usually "shares" with me, which means that I get less than half. It's a great place for dessert.

First time here and can say the mangonada did not disappoint! Can't wait to come back and try more!!

Hot outside and craving a RASPADO meaning shaved ice... Save your money and go somewhere else Paid 20 dollars for 3 of them which is not bad but still for a supposedly "raspado" this is ice cubes not shaved ice also lemon syrup and vanilla are not good at ALL

You want a local place with authentic Mexican treats like home made ice cream, elote, esquites and mangonada? If you're passing through the small city of Des Moines or anywhere near by come down and visit this place. I came in not knowing anything about what they served but they took the time to share and made me want to keep coming back. It was like going to a friend's house and them inviting you to try their food. I felt at home. The treats were amazing. Loved every bite. It's tucked away so many won't see it unless you're actively looking through this area but the locals are all loving it. Nothing but smiling faces coming out of this place. Make the trek down and support this local business. You won't be disappointed.

I'm giving four stars only because I dislike giving five stars based on a single visit…read more That said, my first visit to Fish and Chicken House was very good indeed. I decided to try the two-piece fish and chips and was pretty well blown away. The fish filets, as you can see in the picture, were generous (MUCH bigger than those at Ivar's in Burien) and came out piping hot. Served with ketchup and tartar sauce but, disappointingly, no malt vinegar. Also, they could have drained the fish a bit longer after pulling the filets from the (canola) oil, as the second filet was still dripping a bit of oil. My server was very attentive. Once she seated me, she immediately brought a glass of water and a sample of the Mango Lasi, a blend of mango and yoghurt. Just the thing to cut the heat if your palate gets a little overwhelmed by some of the spicier dishes. The owners did a GREAT job with the physical plant. The room is bright and clean and bears ZERO resemblance to the old Jack's Country Restaurant. This room is warm and inviting. Bollywood programs play on the TV, adding to the atmosphere. There are a lot of dishes on the menu beyond my basic fish and chips, but if my lunch was any indication, it will all be good. I'm eager to make a return visit!
