I went to the Sweet Doctors in the mall as I LOVE sweets and the reviews on a different site have all been great. I ordered 6 different flavors of cake balls to try out. Maybe I'm just not used to it or what but every single cake ball was less cake and more like under baked chewy batter. I ended up throwing all of them out after eating 2/6. I split the other 4 in half to see if the batter was the same gunky moist consistency and they were. I don't know if that how they are meant to be or maybe someone wasn't trained to cook them throughly but they weren't cake-like at all. I love this bakery! I have been looking for a great bakery since I moved here & I have found it. I needed a cake to take to Pensacola for my brother who is a Navy veteran. This was a hard birthday, as it may be his last as he has cancer. I don't know the owner's names ( I wish I had asked), but they were both so helpful & sweet. The cake was wonderful. While I was there I also got several different flavors of cupcakes & a giant cookie. They were all delicious. I asked for the cake to be decorated with a Navy emblem & my brother was very touched by that. My birthday was the next week & I had my daughter get me cupcakes here. My parents live in Longboat Key, and every time my husband, daughter and I are in town, my husband makes sure we stop at Sweet Doctors! He is absolutely OBSESSED with the cookie sandwiches, and rightfully so! The cookies would be simply incredible on their own - because they are some of the best cookies I've ever had the pleasure of tasting - but to take two of them and put some of the richest, creamiest, most delicious icing between them?! Oh, man. I feel like there should be laws for something like that. But I'm glad there aren't! Now, my husband loves the cookie sandwiches, but I love the gourmet cake balls. If heaven came in bite size form, it would be these cake balls. They are wonderfully moist on the inside surrounded by a crisp chocolate shell. The cake/frosting ratio inside is perfect. Not over done, and not too dry. I've had the birthday cake, which tasted like childhood in miniature form. So delectable! The key lime, which was a tropical sweet delight. I've also had the red velvet, and being from Texas, I can say it is definitely Texan approved! I can't remember which flavor it was, but I also have tasted one with fruity pebbles on top. It was amazing. Seriously. If you're at UTC, you NEED to treat yourself to these treats. Sweet doctors did mini cupcakes in the flavors:guava,coconut, and chunky monkey for my baby shower they were all sooooo beautiful and decorated so great! We also ordered cake balls decorated as babies the flavors were birthday cake and marble, I was only able to snag a birthday cake one and a coconut cupcake but it was delish!!! Everyone raved about them. They delivered it all and set it up beautifully at the restaurant where we had a private room reserved. The only downfall was communication, I was a little worried if I was going to have anything at all set up the day of, because of how the communication was and with only finalizing it the day before.. but they didn't let me down at all!! I ended up tasting these cupcake by default because the bakery I sent my husband to is closed on Monday's. So he went on a hunt for cupcakes and ended up at the UTC mall & brought back 4 minis. Double chocolate, peanut butter chocolate, red velvet, & strawberry. I was initially put off by the hard exterior of the frosting but when I bit into the chocolate the cake was moist deliciousness. It was like a candy coating, then chocolate buttercream, and perfectly baked chocolate cake. The peanut butter & strawberry was ok (again the cake was great but not my favorite icing). Visiting area on holiday, heard about this place and gave it a shot. Holy $hoots! Had the peanut butter dipped cupcake and let me tell you it beat out my old favorite - crumbs - which has gone down hill. The frosting is key, not overly sweet, just right in my eyes and the cake was moist. I will say there is a lot of frosting on top, but I just didn't eat it all...although it's good enough! Wow. I just walked by this place and had to stop and grab a cupcake. I have to stop myself from grabbing a cookie too! I had the Nutella mini cupcake and my God that cupcake was so good, it was nice and moist. After practically calling and begging the owner to talk to me, we scheduled a cake tasting for our wedding cake. He asked us to send flavors over so we did. I confirmed the tasting within a week of the appointment. When we arrived, not only did Michael not prepare anything but he did not even bother to come out and talk to us and apologize that he forgot us. He offered to give us leftover cake scraps from the back, through his cashier, none of which were the flavors we agreed upon. At no point did he even talk to us directly. After offering us nothing except the scraps from leftover cakes that others had ordered, and being in the store approx. 10 minutes without a word from Michael, we decided to leave. To be clear, we were told that *NONE* of the cake flavors we agreed upon were available, and that the only option we had for the tasting was leftover cakes from other people.
