I went here with my friends after getting some korean food. We wanted dessert to finish off the night and decided that sweet kingdom it was. When you walk in you do notice that the place is extremely clean and well kept. There is no weird smells of sweets or cleaning spray. The place has cute tables, chairs and decor that would lighten any mood of anyone visiting a dessert place. The menu is presented on an ipad looking thing, i actually dont really remember what is was. But the menu is limited. Every item ahs a picture however, none of them were appealing to me. Most of the items had mango with a few different alternates. Honestly, the selections here were mediocre and didn't have much taste. My friend got a herbal jelly dessert with coconut and it tasted so bitter we didnt even finish it. I actually ended up playing with my food because the only thing that was keeping us was the playlist of kpop mvs. One of the reasons that we ventured here was the fact that it was open until 2 am and we wanted a place to sit and talk. i will be back probably to try the other desserts even though none actually were calling out to me. Let's go with first impressions and work from there: Cozy decor, clean and smells like the inside of my cat's litter box. There's definitely a funky smell here, and I can't place it. No, it's not durian. It smells like a mixture of bleach and other chemicals masking a foul smell. The tablet menu is a neat idea. I like being able to see a picture of the food and a description, and place my order with a click...although I found it odd that the waitstaff collected the tablets afterwards instead of having the tablets mounted on the walls so that our selection would just be electronically sent and we wouldn't have to wait for a waiter to take our order. The dessert is WONDERFUL. Here's the saving grace. A wide selection of traditional desserts that is hard to find anywhere else in the area and they are delicious and well presented. The Purple Yam dessert soup w/sago, black glutinous rice and white glutinous rice balls stood out; it was tasty and the ingredients came together well. The Red Bean Coconut Pudding came in two cute heart shapes. I really like how the red beans were cooked, soft but not mushy. It's conveniently located in Allston, near a lot of good restaurants so my friends and I ventured in after dinner at Bibim. The interior was nice and clean, and I liked the idea of having a tablet to place my order. Like a previous reviewer said, mango and/or coconut is in almost every single dessert, so if you don't like either ingredient you're out of luck. Prices are in the $5-$7 range but some of the desserts can be shared. Despite the limited menu, the real dealbreaker until I saw the waiter pick his nose...and then proceed to bring my dessert out. This concept is so cool--a sit down dessert cafe where you order on iPads. My friend and I ordered the Toddy Palm Mixed which had a bunch of fruits, mango ice cream, and mango pulp. It was delicious and refreshing! The dessert wasn't too sweet and it was a good size for us too. We also got the Thai tea which was okay--too milky and not very flavorful. If you come here, I'd skip the Thai tea and order one of the mixed desserts. I found it very helpful that there were pictures to go with each menu item, as some of the menu items had confusing names. The cafe is very cute and aesthetically pleasing! We came on a Saturday night and most tables were filled. We were a little confused when we walked in because it was a sit down place, but there was minimal interaction with the waitress (if you'd even call her that). However our experience was great!! Literally made sure I traveled to this place as soon as I found out they have ASIAN DESSERTS!! I've been twice already for the mango sago. Very pricey desserts overall, ranging from $6-8 per bowl. The mango sago is about the best it can likely get in Boston (still not my favorite, but we'll forego that). Meanwhile, DO NOT GET THEIR SMOOTHIES!! We tried a papaya one and it turns out it was so artificial we couldn't finish it. The picture looked like the real deal with fresh fruit but it wasn't and was sorely disappointing that we chucked it in the trashcan outside. I went with my girlfriend last night and the shop was pack but we got a table within minute when walking in. The interior looks very simple with white wall, lot of lights, and look very clean. So this is a review where i didn't actually have a chance to try the food because i was basically rejected service at the place. I came in with 4 people and sat at a table. We were going to share 1-2 shaved ice or desserts and the guy at the table said we couldn't keep the table unless we ordered 1 dessert per person... which wasnt advertised anywhere on the ipads or on the door. So i decided to get something to go and the guy told me they had a 15 dollar cash minimum and i didn't have cash. I also want to point out that you need to buy at least 2 desserts to meet that cash minimum. But honestly i felt that was a absurd cash minimum and also i think it's absurd needing to get a dessert for every single person to keep a table. A group of my friends were excited to try this out, but was disappointed. When you walk in, there is a funky smell that is off putting. We had a large group and we were able to seat ourselves around a bunch of little tables in a corner. After we had set ourselves up, the waitress comes over and rearranges us in a less optimal formation and we had to rearrange ourselves again (despite us telling her we were fine). Tablets are cool if it's actually efficient. Our group was large so we had 3 tablets... passing it around and trying to see what was on the menu took way too much time. I like that you can see the picture, but having to click through EVERYTHING before you can decide what you want is not efficient (it was our first time and we didn't know what they offered). I agree with other people that having a print out of their menu would be helpful. Just know when you click "place order" you have to wait for the waitress to come back to take the tablet and put in a code.... kind of defeats the purpose of tablet ordering. Food: I got the mango sago and that was pretty decent. Nothing amazing. Definitely not worth the $7. My friend got the mango pancake... he described it as a mango crepe filled with whipped cream... the picture on the tablet made it look bigger than it really was. He was disappointed and didn't think it was worth $5 (he said more like $1-2). My other friend is allergic to mango, however wanted just plain coconut sago. Unfortunately most of the sago on the menu has some sort of mango (this place LOVES mango). They do NOT offer regular coconut sago and dafu fa (tofu dessert)... you would think they would be able to offer the plain desserts without all the fruit. She was able to get them to make coconut sago (not without a fight, see service review below), but they charged her $7 (same price as with the mango!). Service: The waitress was rude. My friend (with the allergy) went up to her at the counter to ask if she could get a regular coconut sago without mango because she was allergic. She was rudely told that they don't do custom orders and she'll have to order the tofu dessert or hasma. The funny thing is that a couple other friends asked the owner (? assuming) the same thing, and the owner was nice and said they could customize it. We told the waitress, and she looked at us and said "i'll have to check." They eventually did it, but it was definitely not accommodating. It's not like she doesn't like mangos.. she's ALLERGIC. My friend wanted sago and wasn't going to order something else... Didn't know you had to go to the counter to pay, since there's service at the table. Unfortunately we didn't know the total of the bill until we got the counter. We tried to pay separately to make it easier since we all walked over to the counter, but she said they don't do that. She then said something along the lines of she could bring the bill to us.. but we all had already went up to the counter (so it was kind of a dumb offer because we were all standing there). So it again was not efficient figuring out the bill at the counter with 14 of us.... they should just bring the bill to the tables and have them pay at the counter or leave it at the table. This is the only place like this around the area, but it's definitely not worth it when compared to other similar dessert places. At the other places, there is a greater selection, or if they don't have it they have been very accommodating and you either pay the same price and get way more or get the same amount and pay less. Overall, the menu selection is limited, they weren't very accommodating, the ordering/paying is not efficient for a large group. The mango sago was decent, but nothing to rave about. Definitely overpriced for what you get. I'll probably be going to the other similar dessert places over this one. read more

I like the atmosphere here, very chill , the colors are also very inviting. Service was good, they give you an iPad to order with. They also have smoothies which I like! I came here for the first time couple days ago. I was surprised when the host (or the guy behind the counter) sat us down first at a table because I honestly thought this was an order and dine-in kind of dessert shop. We ordered what we wanted on the ipad and the guy took our order. The wait for the desserts were quite long. Longer than I thought it would be. My friend and I ordered a kiwi smoothie, mango sago, and of course, the durian pillow dessert. The durian dessert was absolutely delicious. It had the perfect balance of whipped cream and durian. I didn't care too much about the mochi wrapping. I'll definitely order it again! As for the kiwi smoothie, I didn't care too much for it. It was refreshing but it was just really plain and bland. Not really worth it. Maybe I'll try other flavors next time. The mango sago was okay. I'd rather go to Yocha for the sweet soups. Overall, the shop is cute. It took us forever to get our checks. Sweet kingdom looks like your typical desert/yogurt place however the logistics of their service was very strange. Walking in you get seated and given a tablet to be used as a menu and to place your order. However after you place an order you still need to flag a server because they need to put in a pin. That defeats the purpose of this "tablet ordering" concept. The desert, the mango kingdom special, while good was very pricey at 8$. I would go back here if not for the high prices. read more
