"Half-baked cookies in the oven Half-baked people on the bus" (Jimmy Buffet) Wandering around Shelburne Falls, we decided to stop somewhere for a coffee or a snack. We ended up finding both at Baked. When we walked in, we saw a few big bakery cases filled with pastries, muffins, and all sorts of baked goods. A little further into the space, we saw a reception stand for their full service, sit-down restaurant. We just wanted a beverage and a bakery treat, so that meant we couldn't sit in the restaurant, but luckily, we grabbed the only table in front of the bakery cases. It was quite a chore narrowing down our order from their many drinks and baked goods, but eventually we decided on a Cold Vanilla Blueberry Latte ($6), a Hot Banana Bread Latte ($5), a Macaroon ($3.75), and an Orange Cranberry Scone ($4). The cold latte and scone were mine and I enjoyed both a lot. The latte had great blueberry flavor and the scone was fantastic. We shared the baked treats, and the macaroon was great too, with plenty of chocolate chips, and a freshly made gooey consistency. We both noted how fresh everything was. We grabbed dessert while we were walked around SF. They were great. I found the staff to be odd. Some were overly enthusiastic bordering on hostile while others were unconvinced by having to serve us - and we were doing take away. Still desserts were great. read more

I had breakfast here with my mom and husband. The wait was 5-10 minutes which surprised me on a Saturday morning. They had decaf coffee which is always nice, as well as oat milk which makes me very happy. The coffee was good and strong but not bitter. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was on Gretchen's homemade knot roll. This hit the spot! My mom & husband each got an omelet and both loved them. We did also get a pumpkin Whoopi's pie to split which was amazing, but I forgot to take a picture. The service was pretty slow but the server was running around pretty busy, so it was fine. Not only did my wife and I have a delicious lunch with grilled cheese on house made sourdough, fries, and onion rings all cooked perfectly (especially those onion rings, not the easiest side to get right IMO), and not only did we come home with a box full halloween-themed pastries, but the folks at the restaurant were extremely helpful when I had a momentary lapse of reason and left something behind. Unfortunately after waiting for about a half hour to sit and get an order in the food came out cold and the server didn't have much time to wonder why both of our plates were basically untouched. They ran out of home fries but rather than asking if French fries were an appropriate substitute they made that executive decision for us. I will say the French fries were at least hot. Been here once prior when it was slow and it was fine. This experience was tough to leave paying $40 for cold food and not what we ordered. Yes the server did ask how everything was, 5 feet away from the table at the server station while she was doing something else You need more staff on the floor because it was clearly not manageable. What a delightful lunch. Passing through and asked the guy at Lamson for a lunch rec. did not disappoint. We both had the BLT. Mine on sourdough and his on white. Spectacular. A BLT is fairly basic but somehow it's about the best one I've had. Side of German potato salad was good. I like it with a bit more vinegar, though I did finish it. Magic bar for dessert. The positive reviews must come from the baked goods, because it sure doesn't come from their lunch offerings. For something simple, I ordered an Old Fashioned Tuna sandwich with a side of French fries. The tuna came missing the promised egg and celery. I could have made a better tuna salad with my eyes closed. And no pickle. Lots of fries, but they could take a lesson from McDonalds. It looks like the tourists had arrived. The bare brick walls of the seating area reflected animated conversation with a resulting din. The place could use some acoustical relief. So happy we were able to find this cute cafe. The garage doors were open to let fresh air in. Our waitress was very friendly with us and had a great memory. Breakfast served until 2 so our table did part breakfast/part lunch and everyone was happy. Everything I've ordered has been tasty. My first bite of huevos rancheros was a surprise when it was served over sweet corn bread. There's a tiny outdoor balcony. It's always been full or the weather was bad when I've gone. All the wait staff provides good service. There is a nice selection of coffee and baked goods that you can get to go or take it to your table and add it to your tab. Don't plan on carrying on a conversation because the acoustics are terrible. No matter how many people are there the sounds just echo. That seems to make everyone raise their voices which only adds to the problem. read more

TL;DR - decent food, good pastries, painfully slow service. The food is decent, but this place needs to ramp up it's service and be more up front about it. We had waited a little bit to be seated and as we were placing our order, we were told it would be 40 minutes to get our food. We were only told this because we mentioned how we wanted the items brought out, otherwise we wouldn't have been informed. (In fact the table next to us, who had just ordered, overheard and canceled their order and left) Really wish we were told this before we were seated - we would have gone elsewhere, we were so hungry and didn't want to spend that much time sitting at a restaurant. Based on the reviews, this seems to be the standard, so they really should be more up front about it. We ordered 2 quiche's and 1 short stack of pancakes. We had been told it would be 40 minutes because of the pancakes so we asked how long for the quiche - 30 minutes. We ultimately decided to wait and forego the pancakes. Surprisingly, though, the pancakes were brought out before the quiche was. Not sure what that was about. The quiche was good. The pancakes were good. The pancakes came with butter in little packets - in a place like this shouldn't it be fresh butter? Especially when I'm sitting in front of a sign listing all the local places they are sourced from - including dairy farms. Waitress left for the day while we were eating and told us we need to pay up front and left the check on the table. Well, be prepared - you will wait to be seated, you will wait for your food, and then you will wait to pay for that food. There was no separate line for those paying from the restaurant side, so we had to wait in a long line with others ordering from the bakery. It took forever. Since we sat there waiting so long, we decided we might as well get a couple of pastries to go. The person behind the register was nice enough, but a bit out of sorts and made a few mistakes on the order. Couldn't remember what we ordered right after telling her, forgot to charge us for the restaurant bill which we had to remind her of, and actually used a calculator from the 1980s to add up 2 pastries and a coffee in order to add it to the register. For some reason she even used that calculator to add up the restaurant bill that was already totaled. It was comical. I could get past all that and laugh it off, but after waiting so long it was beginning to get frustrating. Finally paid and got our pastries - now it's time to wait for the coffee. I ate 1/2 my pumpkin roll while waiting for the coffee to be made. Every last thing is slow here. I had the pumpkin roll - which was quite good. He had the chocolate peanut butter brownie and really liked it. Seems like they have good pastries and there were a lot of tempting options. It could be a nice little spot, but they are just not able to deal with the traffic and the service is painfully slow. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you have time to kill. If you have a lot of time to spare and know that up front, then it could be enjoyable. read more

This is a great place to go for Breakfast or lunch near the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne. Yummy bacon, potatoes, hash, pancakes and excellent eggs. You cannot go wrong no matter what you order. A VERY GOOD Bloody Mary, embellished with olives and pickled mushroom, though I prefer celery...a personal quibble. Given my druthers, it would have been a tad more spicy. Really good hot coffee. I got eggs Benedict . It arrived piping hot, a rarity nowadays. I let done! Very generous and decent home fries, an excellent hollandaise sauce on it,, with more than enough to coat those home fries, and what seems to be a homemade English muffin. Good looking "coconut cream" pie: instead of custard it was gummy, flavorless but way too sweet, & the small dollops of cream" were not whipped cream, more like very sticky merengue. The "orange " cookie was a flavorless, dry cakey affair with a bit of faintly orange flavor in the orange-colored frosting, and the molasses cookie similarly flavorless, if a bit moister. What a cute breakfast stop! To start of a day exploring Shelburne Falls, a friend and I stopped here for breakfast. Service was prompt and friendly, and the SMELL of the bakery was infectious. Everything I could see on the menu was baked in-house, including the English muffins in my Irish Eggs Benedict (Benedict with corned beef hash instead of ham - the hash is brilliant!). Cinnamon French toast was also brilliant, and the home fries were a perfect accompaniment to both meals. I will definitely be back! read more
