This place isnt too bad and it's opened hella late. We came here because we ate at the izakaya place. The place was clean but crowded because it was hella late. The snacks were good and it was not too sweet. The parking isnt too bad, hella spots. Overall just got the shaved ice and a drink.

Update: had to go in here again to get my boss some boba that he asked for and once again service was horrible.

Came here with my bestie yesterday and had a great experience :) We ordered the popcorn chicken, a matcha red bean smoothie for me, and a black sesame latte for her. The matcha red bean smoothie was really tasty, though it felt a little on the heavier side. My bestie's black sesame latte was excellent, rich and flavorful. We could clearly taste the unique flavors in each drink, which we both loved. The popcorn chicken was crunchy and tasty, and the marinade was really flavorful. Customer service was great, and our food came out very quickly. Overall, a really nice spot to grab drinks and snacks!

These Asian dessert places are popping up everywhere. Sweet Moment is much smaller compared to Meet Fresh but they do have a pretty good variety on their menu. I cannot ever resist snowflake anything so I ordered the Creamy Snowflake Bowl with matcha ice cream, mango bits and grass jelly $12 with tax. Order at kiosk which is standard at these places. The place is big enough with small tables along the side. Bathrooms were not available though so that was a negative thumbs down. The snowflake part of the bowl wasn't too sweet and it paired nicely with the quality matcha ice cream. The bowl is a little small to share because I can be a bit of a hog! But I would definitely try out another bowl here

I've been here two or three times, and it's always busy. The ambience is lively and casual, making it a comfortable spot to stop by for dessert. I haven't tried their drinks yet, but the Chinese desserts are consistently very good. I keep meaning to try something new, but somehow I always end up ordering the same thing. Because it's usually crowded, there can be a bit of a wait between ordering and receiving your dessert. That said, they're open until 11 p.m., which I really appreciate when I'm craving something sweet late at night. One helpful note: when I ordered Grass Jelly using the self-order kiosks inside, the screen showed "No additional topping," which was a bit confusing. It turns out you can add toppings freely. The plain version is a little bland, so I'd definitely recommend adding toppings.

I always make it a point to stop by Sweet Moment whenever I'm in downtown San Mateo. Located on 3rd street between Ellsworth Ave, it's a short walk to whenever you are in downtown. You order at one of the two kiosk located just outside the front door and wait for your number to be called inside. While the interior is narrow with about 5-6 tables along the right walk. it's always clean and the staff is friendly when calling out orders. We've never had an issue finding a seat. I always order their Mango sago smoothie since I'm a huge sago fan. It's blended well tastes like you're slurping a mango. I've also ordered their grapefruit tea with fruit bits. You can fully customize your drink with five different levels of ice and sweetness, ranging from none at all to the regular amount. If you're looking for a refreshing drink or treat while strolling through downtown or want a casual place to sit and chat, this is definitely the place to stop.

When I say my bf & I enjoy an after-dinner drink, I ain't talkin' potent potables; most anything on a boba shop menu will do the trick. Sweet Moment has an extensive variety of Asian desserts, however we've only sampled their beverages. Of the handful we've tried, the two we most enjoyed were the balanced sweet & savory Pistachio Smoothie & the Coconut Strawberry Smoothie for its delicious flavor combination. Pineapple Smoothie, Piñita Colada, & Strawberry Milkshake weren't as strongly flavored as our faves but they were still tasty & we're glad we gave them a go. And finally, the next time we order their Lemon Yogurt Smoothie, I'll request a lower sugar percentage to fully experience its tartness.

It was my first time trying sweet moment back in November 2025. Parking: Have to find street parking and walk over but it's worth it. Store itself: the store is pretty small Customer service: They didn't talk much, it seemed like they had a lot of orders. Drinks and snacks: I got the brown sugar boba latte 10/10, one of my favorites. Popcorn chicken, calamari ~ 10/10 so good. I wish I didn't live in SJ otherwise go often! Want to come back to try their egg puffs and ice cream!

This place is amazing!! Me and my bestie went here twice because I can't just get over the mochi fried balls!! It was soooo good! This is our go to dessert job in San Mateo! Great staff and friendly, helpful! Inside was small, clean place! I will totally come back!

Creamy Snowflake Bowl (green tea ice cream, strawberries, momoko balls, boba)

Quaint dessert place with an extensive menu! Limited seating inside, so I usually just take my food to-go. You can order at the kiosk outside, but it's much more convenient to order through the Snackpass app. My main go-to is the creamy snowflake bowl (or the creamy snowflake cup, depending how big of a sweet treat craving I have). The creamy snowflake bowl/cup is like a milky shaved ice that you get to customize with your choice of fruit, ice cream, and toppings. The homemade momoko balls are my favorite topping. Very bouncy yet firm with a satisfying chew. I've also tried some other menu items: - Strawberry smoothie: More of a slushy-like texture than a smoothie imo, but still very refreshing! - Passion Fruit Yogurt Smoothie: Love the pairing of the tart passionfruit "smoothie" (again, more like a slushy) with the generous amount of creamy yogurt swirled in. - Fried Mochi Balls: I had pretty high expectations for this, given all the rave reviews. But to me, they just tasted like denser beignets. Nevertheless they were pretty tasty!

Driving back from The City, we decided to get dessert in San Mateo because the parking was easier to find than in SF. Our friend ordered... *Lychee Blush Smoothie (more sweet, 3.5/5). "Still not as sweet for it being lychee but refreshing!" My wife and split the... *Mango Sago: Fresh mango and smooth mango puree accompanied by soft but chewy sago (4/5). Sweet and fresh mangos! The sago was cooked well. *Fried Mochi Balls (4/5). Crispy outside yet soft chewy inside. Too bad they did not have a chocolate or raspberry sauce or fully dusted in cinnamon sugar.

Wish they had a 6 star rating! I can't get enough of this place. The first time I tried it, I came back 4 days in a row LOL. My favorite thing is the snowflake cups, with mixed fruit, and the mixed fruit sago bowl. For smoothies, the pistachio and Oreo are amazing too. Can't wait to come back, again! PRO TIP: Get the snowflake cup with fruit; the fruit sago bowl, and mix them together. It's sooooo good! I wish they offered it as an item.

Parking can be a bit of a hassle so just be prepared. You can order through the kiosk or in-person (perfect because I'd rather order through a screen). Love the fact that there's seating inside too. Be quick though because it can fill up fast. Fret not though because everything is packaged in to-go containers, which is super convenient. I got a brown sugar boba latte and it was pretty good. My partner got the coconut mango smoothie but majority of it tasted like mango. I forgot to take pictures of his thai rice + ice cream bowl though so enjoy my egg puffs with strawberry and matcha ice cream. Chocolate sauce was a plus! But if that's not your jam, you can always leave a note to leave it out. Anyways, cute spot to get boba + dessert. Service was fast and the workers were friendly.

Presumably, never walking down their block of the Main St. alley had a lot to do with it, but who knows how much longer it would've taken if not for my friends suggesting we come here for dinner. Which is kind of ironic, considering the name of this place! While nothing about the outside of Dessert Republic really stands out, the decor inside is great. It may not be all that flashy nor have much of an IG aesthetic, but I like how it has a Hong Kong/Chinatown alley sort of look to it. As for the menu, true to their name, there's no shortage of desserts to choose from, whether it be hot desserts, like glutinous rice balls, sweet tofu, or egg pudding, cold desserts, like mixed fruits, sago, or ice cream sundaes, egg puffs, and crepes. In addition, they also have a bunch of regular food options, from snacks and dim sum items, to rice plates, noodle soups, and even lomo saltado. -- (#A03) POPCORN CHICKEN Not terrible, but not popcorn chicken either. Rather, this felt more like the salt & pepper porkchop dishes I've had in the past - the batter was thick, the chicken was unmarinated, it was seasoned with just salt and pepper, and it was topped with cut peppers instead of crispy basil. -- (#S01) BRAISED BRISKET & WONTON NOODLE SOUP Overall, this was a mixed bag. On the plus side, the bowl was decently loaded, the wontons were plump, and it had chunks of beef tendon, which were tender. On the other, while the noodles were fine, the veggies were way overcooked and the beef was chewy. -- (#M08) SUPER STRAWBERRY - Strawberry Freeze, Aloe Jelly, and Strawberries Topped with Strawberry Ice Cream Undoubtedly, this had a lot of strawberry flavor to it. Even though the strawberry freeze didn't do a ton for me, especially as it melted, I liked how well the aloe jelly, strawberries, and ice cream complemented each other. As far as service goes, I've seen some folks mention running into issues, but I've actually found it to be entirely unremarkable, for better or worse. Each time I've been here, the workers haven't really gone beyond the basics (take orders, bring out dishes, take care of checks, etc.), but I never really expect anything more than that either. Still, they do seem to be relatively friendly and get orders out decently fast, which certainly counts for something. Since I've clearly only had a small handful of what their menu has to offer, there's the distinct possibility (probability?) that I haven't had the best of what Dessert Republic has to offer. However, based on what I've ordered and my friends' egg puffs and sweet tofu that I've tried (both were fine), the desserts here definitely seem to be the safer bet overall. Which is handy since they stay open so late, especially on Friday and Saturday nights (until 1am).

The toffee cookie had bits of toffee which again provided texture without being overly sweet. The oatmeal chocolate walnut cookie was my second favorite after the 66% dark cocoa due to the oatmeal again balancing the sweetness of the chocolate with the saltiness of the walnuts. Overall would recommend for a solid cookie with a fair price and the day olds were also extremely cheap for a better quality than you could get at other places.

Granted, my friends probably hyped it up a bit too much while we were waiting in line (I think it was already their second or third time going), but, regardless, I thought it was just okay. Fast forward all of these years later and I have to say - whether it's because my tastes have changed or because I found a flavor that I really liked, this place is so much better than I remember! With so many boba joints and dessert shops nearby, it's pretty easy to overlook Beard Papa's. Being located on the edge of downtown/3rd Ave certainly doesn't help, but, for something quick and convenient (and different), they're a decent option. While the menu may not look all that extensive, it has a fair amount to offer when you consider how you can mix and match your choice from their near dozen cream puffs/eclairs and handful of cream fillings. Add to that the occasional seasonal/featured flavors they'll have and their assortment of lava cakes and cheesecakes and there's plenty to choose from! -- ST. VALENTINE'S RASPBERRY ECLAIR - Raspberry Cream Custard-filled Eclair with White Chocolate Coating and Raspberry Frosting This was a seasonal offering (admittedly, an older one), but if they ever added this to their regular menu, I'd easily get this again. Surprisingly, this actually wasn't super sweet and I loved how well the raspberry and white chocolate flavors complemented each other. -- GREENT TEA ECLAIR WITH VANILLA CUSTARD FILLING Not nearly as good as the St Valentine's Eclair, but way better than the original Vanilla Cream Puff I had before. The frosting had a strong hit of green tea to it, and the custard was fine, but, this time, the cream puff felt a little stale/dry-ish. While I definitely enjoyed Beard Papa's cream puffs/eclairs more than I did before, I can't say I've loved everything about this location. Mainly, the service here has been a little uneven - the first time we stopped in, the guy behind the counter looked really annoyed with having to help us and seemed like he was dying for us to leave (FWIW, we walked in almost an hour before they closed). Our last visit, though, the workers were friendly and super fast, as they handed us our eclair before we could even finish paying. Even though my opinion of Beard Papa's has definitely improved, since I never really crave cream puffs/eclairs and limit my sweets to the occasional scoop(s) of ice cream or milk tea, I can't say Beard Papa's is on the verge of getting into my regular dessert rotation. However, given how much I enjoyed their St. Valentine's Raspberry Eclair, I'm definitely more open to coming back than ever before if/when should the desire come along, especially since they don't have those same long lines anymore!
