My Fiancée and I stopped by one night for our regular boba craving. Since being in the Peninsula area, we have made it a mission to try a different boba spot each time and this time we came here. You place your order at a kiosk similar to many of the other boba places in the area. I wanted to have something with Yakult that day so I got the Yakult Pineapple Green Tea. The staff was quick with our order and made sure it was to our liking. The overall flavor was good and the tea was refreshing. The Yakult gave it a nice contrast as there is a slight tartness to it. The boba in the drink was fresh and small so it didn't get stuck in the straw. My only issue was the amount of boba. Even when my tea was complete. I felt like I still had half of the cups worth of boba to still drink. The argument can be made to just throw it away but I don't like wasting food and that messed up the balance of the drink. There's a lot of bubble tea places to choose from in San Mateo, and YiFang used to be my go-to boba joint. No longer. Tonight, I ordered a famous YiFang fruit tea. Easy. It's their signature tea. They gave me a drink... with no fruit. When I asked why, they said, "we ran out of fruit" and walked away. -_- There were already so many "sold out" drinks on the menu, it would have been nothing 86 another for the night, but instead, they opted to sell an inferior, overly sweet, and off-model signature. There are so many different boba shops in downtown San Mateo now, but Yifang is still one of my favorites! My go-to drinks are the mango pomelo sago and the ginger lemon tea (winter seasonal special). Recently, I also used their catering service for our wedding. There was a mistake on their end where they wrote down the wrong pickup time, so when we went there in the morning there was a lot of confusion around our order and we had to make a separate trip later. Thankfully everything worked out in the end and our guests really enjoyed the boba! Despite the mishap, I have a ton of respect for how their team handled the situation. Chris immediately sent me a thoughtful and sincere apology and offered an extremely generous refund. Mistakes inevitably happen, but it goes a long way when someone proactively acknowledges the impact and takes responsibility for what happened. First time at Yi Fang in downtown San Mateo was on the night of the 1st of January, 2025. Z and Cielo had checked out their Colma location a few months ago, bringing a beverage back home for me, so I knew that I would find a drink that I would like here. After our New Year's dinner at MY Dumpling, we walked here to get some post-dinner boba drinks. We arrived shortly before 7:30 PM to a short line of people inside. Venue: 4 stars. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The tea shoppe is fairly small. With no tables and only a bench against one wall, maximum occupancy can't be more than forty people. The brightly lit place was tidy and clean on the evening of our visit[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Upon entry, patrons are welcomed by the menu posted on the wall to the left, the front counter just a few feet directly facing the front door, a touch screen kiosk for ordering at the front right corner, and a long hallway with the bench for sitting. Service: 3 stars. With the kiosk for ordering, this place is pretty much a self-service bubble tea store. I'm assuming that you can also place orders at the front counter, but if you use the electronic podium for ordering, the only service you receive is when your number or drinks are called out for pick-up. Having a choice of means for ordering likely speeds things up here, but the germaphobe in me really wished that they had a bottle of hand sanitizer somewhere next to the touch-screen kiosk from which we ordered our beverages. Drinks: 5 stars. Initially, Mom was set on passing on getting a drink, but after viewing their menu, she was reeled in by their Red Bean offerings. Below are what Mom and I ordered: Medium Purple Rice Red Bean Coconut Latte ($7.25) with Sago ($0.75), no ice. Mom really enjoyed this vegan cold drink. Large ($0.75) Aisha Almond Grass Jelly Almond Latte ($6.25) with added Almond Jelly ($0.75). DELISH! And, again, hurray for another vegan beverage! I am not sure what the difference is between the Aisha Almond Grass Jelly Almond Latte and the regular Grass Jelly Almond Latte. I think that the Aisha Almond was a promo for some special brand or toy, but what I received was nothing different than the classic version. Weird, hope that I didn't pay for something that I did not receive. Nevertheless, I slurped this up with much delight. Just two days later, V got a Strawberry Fruit Tea which he really liked. One thing to note: the drink sizes at this location differ from Colma. The "large" here is basically a medium there, and there's no true medium offered. It's fine. Tried this place yesterday right when they opened. Actually, a few minutes before - so I used the QR code to start my order and then was going to push "send" promptly at opening. My goodness the program was such a pain and asked me multiple times for a code sent to my cell phone - for goodness sake, it's just a drink - a drink I'm going to pay for in the app or whatever before I get the drink - so calm down! Anyway Placed my order for a brown sugar boba matcha drink with oat milk instead or regular milk - I was still trying to place my order 2 minutes after opening amd I was showing the employee what I was going through - I said it was ridiculous. I mean, seriously. Next time just order from employee at the register. The drink was made and it took 5 minutes. Maybe they weren't prepared but it seems like a long time to dump stuff on a cup and seal it. The employee was pleasant, called out my order number even though I was the only one there that had ordered lol He told me to mix it well before drinking I wanted to keep it in layers so each sip would be different (I like novelty to a fault) but I mixed it instead - it tasted fine. I mostly tasted the almond milk vs the matcha or even the brown sugar. Really wanted the matcha flavor. I was disappointed. I ordered online using the Snackpass app and it was our first time trying Yifang. I had a passion fruit green tea and we also tried the matcha latte (something non-fruit just to see the quality). Overall, it's fairly expensive for what you get and their regular size seems a lot smaller than other chains. The matcha latte with oat milk was $7.50 and was pretty good. The passion fruit green tea was $5.50 and was also decent - the only complaint I have is that the green tea seemed to be brewed quite light so once you mix fruit into it (in this case, passion fruit), it becomes more of a subtle background note. I realize not all fruit mixins are as strong as others, but I would've liked better balance and have the green tea flavor a bit more pronounced. Also, you have to pay $0.10 extra for a bag, but it's not clear whether the bags are for individual cups or if they're sufficiently large to hold multiple cups. They also didn't have any drink holders, which is normally fine as long as the drinks are sealed up properly, but just be aware if you're planning to travel with the drinks. read more

I finished my drink before remembering to take a photo I love this location cuz there's a parking garage across the street so you don't need to find for street parking, you can also order on Snackpass to order ahead and have your drink ready by the time you get there. Although on the higher price tag for drinks ($5.75 for reg, $7 usually for large) it's definitely worth it! My go to drink is usually the grass jelly almond latte with 50% sugar as there drinks are on the sweeter side. Went here after dinner with my niece, and unfortunately, I was disappointed. The first thing was I ordered my drink half sweet and it was still way too sweet to even drink, I should've took it back, but I ended up just throwing it away. The second thing is, we were the only people in there placed an order and when the order was ready, they called our number. We went to go get it, and they required proof of the number. I tried the Yakult mountain tea and I've concluded I'm just not as much of a fan of fruit based tea drinks. I also found that even at 30% sugar, the drinks here run really , really sweet. I'd say closer to 50-70% sweetness at other places. It might be because there isn't milk or creamer to cut the sweetness? I did try a few dips of my kid's mango sago drink and we all concluded this was the best one. My husband got the Yifang fruit tea, which is one of its most popular drinks, and I also found this one to be too sweet. In conclusion: Give me my go-to, green milk tea with 25% sugar any day! With the current boba explosion, you gotta start keeping track of what is good where because they ain't all equal. Yifang, like its name implies, excels in fruit teas. I've found their signature mixed fruit teas, pineapple teas, and orange teas the best, but it can vary a bit based on season. Depending on your tastes, you might not want to skimp on the sugar! Even with my Asian tasting buds (i.e. "not too sweet" is the supreme compliment), 50% is actually just right for the tarter fruits. This Yifang has similar look and feel inside to ones I've been to in Asia, and it's pretty efficient from ordering to getting your drink. I'd recommend ordering from their website so your drink can be ready for you, especially during busy hours on a hot day. read more

I ordered the Brown Sugar Pearl Matcha Latte drink. I don't think it was worth $8. However, it is better than your average pearl drink. My favorite part was the tapioca balls. The texture was soft and chewy. It tasted fresh and was super warm. The drink wasn't as sweet as I hoped for. The process to order the drink was easy. Came here to get a drink or two to try since I saw some good reviews. I decided to get their Yifang Fruit Tea and went with all the recommendations: 30% sweet and less ice. My husband decided to get a drink too but since he's lactose intolerant, he asked the baristas for recommendations that did not have milk. The barista recommended fruit teas and the mango sago. My husband decided to get their mango sago since he wanted to avoid caffeine. The Yifang Fruit Tea was ... not good at all. The tea flavor was really muted and the fruit flavor was also very muted. It tasted like water. I didn't get to try the mango sago that my husband got but he said he got an upset stomach later at night. I think it was the drink that caused it because if I remember correctly, mango sago (the dessert) uses condensed milk and evaporated milk and both are heavy on lactose. I wouldn't be surprised if the drink had those ingredients as well. If that's the case, perhaps the baristas should mention that. If someone is looking for a drink without cow's milk, they should probably be knowledgeable about if the other ingredients contain cow's milk. Came here on a late Saturday afternoon. Wasn't much people so the wait was not bad. Generally not a fan of fruit drinks but these caught me by surprise since I tend to go for their teas. Got their lychee aloe sago 70% sweet and mango pomelo sago 50% sweet. Both drinks were really good and the sweetness levels we chose were perfect. The lychee drink had just the right amount of sago and aloe chunks, there were also 2 lychees in the drinks. The mango pomelo was very refreshing on a hot day, not sure if they added coconut milk to the drink but that added a nice creamy touch. Overall: Lychee aloe sago 4.5/5, mango pomelo sago 4.5/5.
