I was in the area running errands and noticed this place advertised lunch specials. Thai food sounded good and I was starting to get hungry, so I decided to stop in. When I walked in, I was the only customer. I was greeted by the server and told to seat myself. I planned to order the steamed chicken and rice from the lunch menu along with a side of tom kha soup. After waiting for a while without anyone coming to take my order, I went up to the counter myself since I was short on time. I ordered the steamed chicken with rice (khao man gai) and the tom kha soup, requesting spice level 2 for the soup and 1 for the chicken. I was told the chicken didn't come with a spice level, but the soup could be made a 2. The soup came out and was actually pretty good. After waiting quite a while for the entrée, I checked in and was told they didn't have it. At that point I was confused . I asked what I had ordered then, since I was starving and had no idea what I was waiting for all this time. What Thai restaurant doesn't have chicken and rice in stock? Especially if it's advertised as a lunch special. Long story short, I left hungry. The service was disappointing and the communication could have been much better. We had a wonderful experience! Today is my birthday and we wanted to try a new Thai place and we are very happy that we found Sweet Rice. Madison greeted us when we came in and told us we could sit anywhere. We chose a half booth, half table and it was very comfortable. We tried the appetizer rice roll with chicken and peanut sauce and it was delightful. It was a Very light appetizer. For our entrées, we ordered Penang Curry w/chicken and pad Thai w/Chicken at a level two spicy for both of them. We customized our meals to not have bean sprouts or mushrooms and they are happy to cook it that way. Because it was my birthday, Madison offered me a free dessert so we tried the strawberry crepe cake and it was delightful! It came with a warmed up strawberry paste. It was delicious! A lot of things to really like here if you're in the area and in the mood for Thai! The Tom Kha Gai soup is pretty good. The flavors of the lemon grass mixed with the fullness of the coconut milk always make for a great combo. The Penang curry was also great! I think it goes well with the fried tofu. The crab fried rice was probably my favorite thing there. I'm not sure how much crab was in it but whatever was in it was pretty good. And then finally the pad see ew, which was, for me, the most disappointing thing. I know the menu said something like a house special secret sauce was on it but i didn't expect it to be as sweet as it was. The beef in it was also tough. Just missed the mark for me. Chicken fried rice, pork riblets, and tom yum soup was our order. Originally I ordered through DoorDash and the option for drone delivery was available and it boasted "no tip" on the app. I thought I would give it a try. The estimated delivery kept changing on the DoorDash app. I called the restaurant and she stated the order was picked up by drone carrier 30 minutes ago. So I called DoorDash Flytrex and they said the department I needed had a long hold and offered full refund. I cancelled and drove to Sweet Rice myself to have the order remade. When i called to let the restaurant know of this, a young man with attitude answered the phone. he did let me re order my food for pick up yet again. When walked in to pick up he was so rude with attitude AGAIN. I come to this place for authenticity and to support my local Asian restaurants. The quality has just declined to the point where I will no longer return. As you can see in the photo, they went cheap on the cabbage, they used to offer a full wedge, I got the left over cabbage. Papaya salad shouldn't be tasteless either. Also where's the full crabs they used to put in? Portion has gotten smaller and smaller. Food - 4 out of 5 Service - 5 out of 5 Atmosphere - 4/5 - A very clean restaurant that I feel like it is close to Little Elm more than Frisco. This restaurant can be hard to miss. Staff - 5/5 - Unfortunately, there was 2 issues with our pickup order: 1. Papaya Salad - We asked for Level 5 spicy, and clearly it was level 1. 2 Lao Spicy Sausage Combo - Unfortunately, there was a piece of hair in the sticky rice, and I am not really upset at all. It happens. We called back, and they refunded these 2 orders for us. They didn't have to do that, but they did, and I really appreciate service like this. So glad I found this gem! Food here is amazing and service is great as well. I've been here twice and each time I have left very full and happy. Everything I've tried was delicious but a few of my favorites were the Lao spicy sausage, crabmeat fried rice, sweet rice chicken wings, papaya salad, and shrimp po tak soup. First of all, you must get the Lao spicy sausage with the sticky rice. So good! It comes with a sauce that pairs well with the sausage and rice. The crabmeat fried rice is also an excellent choice and has lots of meaty crab chunks in the rice. The chicken wings were also delicious and had the perfect amount of crunch and flavor to them. We ordered the Lao style papaya salad which was flavorful but I could've done without the raw crab that was in the salad. The shrimp po tak soup was delicious and a nice refreshing soup to accompany our meal. I've also tried the Thai herbal chicken which was basically fried chicken and a sauce on the side. Good but nothing that stood out to me. The crispy fried pork riblets were a little too dry for me and there wasn't enough meat on them. I also tried the panang curry which was good but nothing special. Overall, I really like this spot and I have several go to dishes that I will always order. We have been looking forever for authentic Lao + Thai food and we found it! Let's start from the beginning when we walked in and was greeted by Kwan the sweetest hostess/waitress! The ambience was laid back and quiet. This was around 6pm on a Sunday evening. Our tummy's growled looking at the extensive options on the menu. After looking at the menu which seemed to be an hour but was actually 5 mins, we opted for the Duck Fat fried rice, Marinated Grill Beef, Chicken Larb, Tum Yum soup and Papaya Salad (Lao style). First off let's talk about how tasty the Duck Fat fried rice is! Not greasy at all the fried rice was cooked in a slight perfection of duck fat, beef, shrimp and chicken. Topped with green onions it was light and savory. Simply perfect. Then, the Marinated Steak. We had ours prepared medium and the flavors of the marinade exploded in my mouth. It was garlicky, oniony, sweet semi glazed sauce. Cooked to perfection. The Chicken Larb was sour, spicy and lots of flavors. it came with lettuce so I can make tiny lettuce wraps to fit our hungry mouths. Better than most authentic Larb I've ever had in my life. And I was born in Thailand. The Tum Yum Soup was light and delicate. The common galangal ginger and spices warmed our insides. Definitely a good starter as they come in lunch portion size or dinner size. And finally we enjoyed all this goodness with a Papaya salad prepared Lao style. The amount of love they put into the flavors to mix this papaya salad was heavenly. Authentic ingredients like how my mom would make it. Soooo excited to have a Lao food place to go to! At first I was a little confused as why there are 2 Thai restaurants in the same plaza. I love Chilli Thai too, but sweet rice is more Laotian so I'm happy! The kids meal has just an egg omelette with sticky rice, I personally love eating my papaya salad with egg so I was happy!!! This was such a disappointment. I've been to the other location near the Dallas Love airport and that location is AMAZING! So I definitely had high hopes for this one... I was already in the area and was hungry and I was so excited seeing that they had a location nearby. I got the same thing I always get which is the basil fried rice with chicken and a side of egg rolls. Normally, the seasoning is on point and the rice had a very funny aftertaste. I can't put my finger on what the ingredient was, but it's not something I've ever tasted when I bought this dish in the past. It wasn't pleasant at all. The egg rolls were also undercooked.
