November 3rd- Nice bar, clear glass shelf, wooden floor, comfortable lounge seats. Good ambience. Unfortunately the service and food were not. Bartender seem to have too many drinks in her and was incoherent to any request from the patrons at the bar. I waited about 15 mins for a drink while the bar was 70% empty. Not excusable by any means. When the food arrived the burger that I ordered was room temp, the bun was stale and the fries were dried and cold. Lost my appetite very quickly. read more

Ok so it is the first week so there are kinks, but I still have expectations since the owners have a little scoop shop down the road. Took 15 minutes for our pitcher to arrive (apps came before beer). Saw 2 tables leave before being served anything. We were offered 3 plates that weren't ours by the wait staff and had to flag down two servers who were trying to serve our food to other tables. We were served our seared tuna and cheese steak but waited 10 minutes for sliders to be served for 3rd person (assumably it was sitting in their window for 10 minutes before they realized it had to come out?!? We had nobody in our section to flag down for followup) Manager with the beard and maroon sweater too busy sitting in a booth talking to his bro's to make sure we were happy. (get rid of that joker). Waitresses probably couldn't think due to lack of oxygen with the ridiculous attire they are forced to wear but I would get rid of them too. My cheesesteak was really amazing which upsets me because I will never go back to this joke. I'm sure they'll do well with the bro-ey atmosphere and disgraceful waitstaff but it's not for me (and shouldn't be fore me, unless you like 20 minute waits for beer). read more

Eh. Came here during a playoff hockey game back in May. Left a lot to be desired. Space itself is pretty nice, but the service was awful. Bartenders acted like they'd rather be anywhere else - total inconvenience to be doing their job. We left after a beer because it was bro-y as hell and just an unfriendly environment. What a disappointment... Went here to watch a World Cup match and grab some food, midweek, midday. Had heard about the place from a friend, so decided to check it out. Great location, multiple TVs, and looks nice inside, but that was the only highlight. When we got there around 1130, we were 2 of the only 4 people in the bar. The waitress acted like she couldn't be bothered to be 'helping' us. After she took our order, we didn't see here again until we were ready to leave. She was sitting at a booth across the bar, or standing talking to the bartender and other staff the entire time. I had to get up to get ketchup for my fries from another table. The busboy was far more attentive than the waitress. After we sat for a considerable time with empty drinks, we actually had to ask him to get our waitress so that we could get our check and go to another establishment so that we could enjoy watching the match... Food was mediocre, service was horrible. Probably wont be back. read more

So I joined yelp just to let others know about this crazy place. Was there on a Saturday night with friends. Ordered a corona at bar, and went to mens room, when I got back I noticed I had been given wrong beer. I politely mentioned this to bartender who told me he wasnt allowed to take it back. Of course I asked why? He said the time limit for take backs was over. But I went to mens room and it was your mistake. He told me I should have been present when beer was given to me. So I asked for manager. He came and told me no returns. I explained my story. He didnt care, said it was bar policy, and that a lotta people try to get over by drinking half and sending back beer. I said they do? He said it was epidemic, and they have decided to put a stop to it! I explained I had not taken a sip yet. He said I better hurry b4 beer gets warm and thanked me for coming. I have never left a review before but I had such a horrible experience with this place that I am compelled to. Not only was their service horrible but they are liars and break basic health codes by having a dog in their establishment. First I want to comment on the lack of professionalism this Harry P guy has in response to other comments. This business will never survive with such disrespectful people and I can see why everyone in that place is just as rude and just as much liars as the owner/manager. So please save your lies and don't even comment. I happened to go in to this place after leaving a wonderful place around there (Bonnie's). My boyfriend wanted to go in and see the place especially bc there was an NBA game. We went in there and sat at a table. We sat there for about 10 minutes before we got tired of waiting and my boyfriend went to the bar to get us drinks. You would think that one of the waitresses coming up to the tables right and left to us would even make eye contact with us. No. My boyfriend finally got us our drinks after standing around for 10 more minutes. We ordered BASIC drinks: mojitos. If you have the ingredients for a mojito you would expect that they know how to do it. No it was basically club soda with 2 small mint leaves floating on it. Fine we said maybe they don't know how to make this cocktail bc they're a sports bar. So I exchanged my drink for a whiskey sour (my boyfriend was nice enough to keep his disgusting mojito to save face). Is a whisky sour not a BASIC drink that a bartender should know how to make? Disgusting as well. By that point I was infuriated by the horrible service and drinks. I refused to drink those disgusting things and I had already given them another opportunity to make me a drink. I FINALLY was able to get a waitresses attention and told her about it. She told me if she could get me another drink. No. How many things do I have to order to finally be able to get something drinkable? No. I told her I wanted my money back because I had not touched the drinks and we refused to drink it. She said if that was the case she would get me the owner. Great I thought. They could clearly see that something was wrong here. No. Another woman came over which I initially thought was the owner as that's what the waitress said. She came over I told her yet again what happened and she told me she was the manager and would see what the owner said. Why lie that I would have the courtesy to speak to the owner and send some random person so I could waste my breath telling her my horrible experience again. She then came back and told me that I could either get a drink or leave and that I would not be able to get my money back. What a joke. I wish they would actually bring themselves to try what they put out. At that point I left very disappointed. I had such a great night ruined by this lame spot. Not only did they have terrible drinks (thank God I didn't try the food!) and terrible service but unethical practices. Don't waste your time going--multiple bad reviews means something! read more

The only good thing about this place is the bathroom. My friends and I couldn't decide what to drink and had one drink each. All of a sudden we were told that we were too drunk to continue being served. When we asked to speak with the manager we were told that security deals with belligerent people not the manager. read more

I've enjoyed brunch here a few times but this recent Saturday I was immediately asked by the bartender to supply a credit card for my order. He told me I could pay with cash or the card when I was ready to leave but insisted that it was a new policy. However, the two gentlemen who ordered round after round of beers and shots were never asked to provide a credit card nor was the couple that came after me, sat at the bar and ordered shortly after me. Mediocre food and waitresses forced to dress like high end hookers are the baseline here. But the icing on the cake is the management who wouldn't take back (actually just swap out). A glass of beer my wife ordered. The pubescent manager came over and actually argued with us for 20 minutes about how the beer we ordered was too expensive and that he had to charge us for it, we told him that if we saw the bill with the beer on it we'd never come back. My wife worked for years in restaurants in various capacities and was dumbfounded. The beer was on the bill so there you go. By the way - we are a long time Astoria couple there on a weeknight with an eight year old a 6pm. He said that a lot of people try to 'take advantage' .... Bonehead. Visited Sweet Spot on the 2nd or 3rd day that it opened...and I haven't been back since. Ambiance is definitely cool (dark, lots of TVs, nice booths in the back) and I love that they chose to keep the "Off Track Betting" sign as part of the decor. Our table ordered bar food (wings, chicken fingers, onion rings etc) & beer. Food seemed overpriced for what it was - I mean the chicken fingers (which they strangely list as "anti-biotic free chicken" on the menu) looked like they got them from frozen section of the neighboring grocery store. The place was very crowded on a Friday night and it didn't look like they had staff with a lot of experience. My group of friends was OK with the slow service (since we realized they had only just opened) but some of the girls sitting next to us weren't so happy when they waited an hour for their check to arrive. The manager did have to resolve a few issues with other tables while we were there. We tried to make the best of an average dining experience by enjoying the overall chaos (some of which involved a waitress taking numerous photos with customers & the very strange alternating of club music & sports highlights). Food seemed overpriced for what it was - I'll probably give Sweet Spot another try in a few months (in hopes that some things have changed). read more

GREED AT ITS WORST. The food is mediocre at best. A little over priced for tap beer and typical bar food. Been there several times including Sunday for the World Cup finale. There was a decent sized crowd, especially compared to a regular Sunday afternoon because of the soccer championship. I would think the management would have been happy to have the extra customers. Instead, this place had the audacity to charge a cover of $20.00 per person just because they could. The game was on channel 7 so there were no licensing fees involved. I would not have went in except friends of ours arrived before us and prepaid our cover charge. We sat at a table near the front door and watched as many other potential customers turned and walked away upon realizing there was a $20.00 cover charge. I was jealous of every one of them. I'd like to think that this place screwed themselves by losing all those customers that may have spent more money in this establishment than what they collected in cover charges. I understand this is a business and management does not want people coming in and occupying space while not purchasing anything. However, I'm certain an alternative could have been planned. So, I'd like to nominate "The Sweet Spot" into Astoria's Hall of Shame for inexcusable greed. read more

This sports bar seems to be going through a bit of an identity crisis. It's got all the makings for a great sports bar; a great layout, plenty of TVs, and tasty pubgrub. But, for some reason the place is a magnet for the club-going "come at me bro" crowd. Could be the VIP Bottle service, roped off dance area and club music pumping incessantly during football games. Other reviewer spoke of a "frat party" atmosphere and I would have to agree. I was half expecting to see beerpong and flip cup break out at any minute. This place definitely has a lot of potential (huge location, next to the Ditmars stop, etc), but it needs to pick one theme and go with it. Weird. Although amazed by the size of the inside and the wall to wall large screen TVs, I couldn't quite understand what this place really was. It looked like a bar, sounded like a club (dance music blaring). You would think that a place of this size would have a large selection of draft beers and a big selection of food choices but it didn't. Worse if you are a vegetarian there isn't even a veggie burger on the menu. Since there was nothing much for a vegetarian but fries we ordered two types, Truffle fries and Greek fries (described as fries with feta and oregano) both orders of fries were served cold. Poor service, low quality food. Three times I had dinner here because the place is well designed. The service was ok the first two times but the chef just can't get steaks right!! Wings have way too much vinegar!!!! But last night I couldn't even get the waitress to return my overcooked steak (again). All the service we received was courtesy of the buss boy. Then my second steak was cooked the right temperature but was impossible to cut because all the veins and nerves in the meat. I think this place is trying to be too hip for its own good. Me and my date sat at the bar for some wings and beer during happy hour. The bartenders were nice I will give them that, and they had some good beers (nothing fantastic though). The wings were mediocre at best, and the music was like loud, club type music. Since it doesn't appear to be a club, and has just tables and chairs for people eating I'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish there. That kind of works against them in my book. read more

From the outside it looks like it would be a nice place to spend and evening because it's visually pleasing, but that's about all it is. When you go inside it's a free for all. Beautiful place! Good music. Bartenders were brutal! Very pretty girls but HORRIBLE service. Waited 45 minutes just to be acknowledged. That'll make you just want to leave. Watched the Friday night girl take 15 minutes to serve 2 glasses of water all while she chewed gum like a cow grazing in a field! I'd hate to see this spot that has amazing potential to go belly up because they'd rather have a pretty face with no experience or personality behind the bar rather than someone who can actually serve drinks and keep up with the crowd. Kicked out after spending over $300... Apparently there was a reservation on our high top table. We came at 12:30 for brunch and to hold our table for the 4:00 football game and at 6:00 we were told we weren't ordering enough (though their spotty service at best didn't have a waitress come over for 45 minutes, which the girls then apologized for), then a half hour later kicked out because of a supposed reservation that would produce more money on the table. First of all- we sat at the bar and tried to order a simple shot of "soco&lime" (yeah I know it's gay but we were already pretty drunk) and this "bartender" gave us a face and said "what is that?!, I dont know those things I usually work at the strip club and serve simple drinks like beer or vodka" with her really thick Spanish accent. Went to watch a Sunday football game! Bar layout was nice, clean and the tables and chairs all looked nice. Only bad part of the interior was it was FREEZING like I never get cold or am bothered by it but I was so cold and the air blowing right on me no matter where I sat at my table! So that wasn't great! They have good bar food everyone at my table LOVED the Buffalo bites!! The waitress was a sweetheart !!!! Its a great sports bar. The food is okay except for the prosciutto pizza, the dough was horrible. The service not that great. I still had 1/4 left of my drink and the bus boy snatched it up without asking if I was done. And as Im writing this review he just did it again. The waitress was barely here with us. I came here a couple times. I love the whole environment inside. I came this past monday night with a couple of friends the waitress approached us like she had a stick up her a**** with no bra on her nipples were on full show... Very nice way to approach your table. She gave us attitude the whole time while taking our order and this is not the first time i got approached with a worthless waitress there, i seem to know more about the menu then they do from my first visit which was pleasant. As much as I want to write a bad review just to see what Harry writes back- I can't. Solid food, service and atmosphere. I insure business for many years and prior to that was in the food business for years. For everyone that has any idea of the business will just laugh at the stupid reasons you give for not liking a place. Just know if you go to a bar or club and milk one beer all night- ur servers will try to get you to drink more. As for food everyone has a different idea what good food is but if you can't boil an egg you shouldn't attempt to bash a place on its food. I came here on a Saturday night after Republic was crowded full of people and they weren't letting anyone else in. Being too cool for us, we walked over to Sweet Spot and had a few drinks. The space itself is very nice, spacious, modern, and clean. The sad thing is it seems this place was pretty empty on a busy night but it was good to be in a place without having to go shoulder to shoulder with a million people. Beautiful interior, and great location. Menu was attractive, but didn't deliver. The Asian chicken salad was a joke... No toppings, and all lettuce. Very overpriced as well. I had the BLT-A sandwich, and the bread was so huge I had to take off the top piece and take the sandwich apart to eat it. We tried to order cheese fries and the waitress said they had 'yellow nacho cheese' and it was the only choice. Gross. This place has so much potential because of the first things listed, and we had high hopes, but we're severely let down... Probably won't be back soon. Went to a Hellenic event here. I'm not usually a sports-bar fan, but I have to give this place a stellar review. The food is remarkable and the service friendly. When I asked about event pricing it turns out to be very reasonable, so I'm definitely going to plan something there soon. I've been here a few times now and the place is pretty okay. I usually get the same thing here - hot dogs with mac n cheese and a raspberry shocktop beer. Prices are decent and the service is generally good. The only thing I am not crazy about is that it can get very rowdy during sporting events, but this is a sports bar so that is to be expected. I think this place will be a good addition to Ditmars. Stopped by last night for a few drinks, got a pitcher of beer and the classic wings which were pretty good. Overall, it seems reasonably priced, and has a nice decor. There is still a lot of straightening out to do, the service was on the slower side though the place wasn't that busy, but hopefully that will be fixed soon. I'll definitely be going back. read more

Went to watch football on first college Football Saturday expecting a fun relaxing afternoon. After our server got us drinks she was closing her shift out and was then written up by her manager in front of all the guests and her co-workers. It wasn't crowded or busy so everyone heard the ENTIRE conversation. Very uncomfortable feeling especially being in the service industry. Not a good impression of how the bar is run and how your employees are treated. Facilitate that away from guests and coworkers!!
