Came here on a Wednesday for dinner. The place itself was not very busy but they seemed pretty backed up with online orders. We tried the steak honey crunch salad for the first time. The dressing was a bit spicier than we anticipated but it was very tasty. All the ingredients were fresh and all went very well together. Possibly a new salad to add to my usual orders here. Service was standard. We did pre-order on the app and when we got there, they did expedite ours a little, which was appreciated. Since they were busy the tables and chairs weren't cleaned but it wasn't a very big deal. Overall a decent experience at this location. read more

What happened to this location :( I can't see myself returning after today's visit. I stopped by to get a quick Cesar salad (minus chicken) as I was so hungry and nearby Del Mar. The place was empty but alot of to go orders being prepped. A guy helped me and I asked for all kale for my base. The portion seemed small so I asked him for more base kale and he gave me side eye. Keep in mind this is for their BASE (not toppings or premium toppings) - just the base (you'll see portion at end). I subbed tomato for cabbage and then he added the small scoops of parm and cheese crisps. Then tossed with Cesar dressing (it didn't look familiar this time around). The portion was so small that he even looked at it when ringing it up and I was waiting for him to say 'you want me to add more base' but instead shrugged and said 'it's b/c you omitted chicken'. Thanks guy. I could only shake my head when I opened the container. It wasn't even half full. And for $11. I could have gone to Jimbos for a bigger portion at their self serve salad. Or gone to Urbane Cafe (my fave place right now) for ahi kale salad for $13.95. The salad tasted bitter today (like radicchio for some reason) and the dressing didn't taste like their familiar Cesar. Don't get me wrong, the salads are tasty, but after paying $50 for two salads I don't think I will ever be coming back purely because of the extra charges for everything. I tried this Sweetgreen on my work break, and I ordered the hot honey chicken plate, which was good! It was pretty filling, and the ingredients were pretty fresh. I liked all the vegetable/grain parts of the dish, but the chicken was kind of dry. The workers are very friendly, and service is quick too. I love the interior of the store as well! It is so open and airy, and during lunchtime there is plenty of sunlight. This is one of the nicest stores to eat inside in this area! When I finally ordered, I asked for the Guacamole Greens with tofu instead of chicken. I didn't realize until I opened the bowl how little salad was actually in it -- the container was maybe half full. Paying around $15 for that amount was ridiculous!!! On top of that, the salad just wasn't good. The tofu was very chewy and hard to eat. I honestly don't understand how Sweetgreen is even in business with food like this. To make things worse, someone spilled water all over the floor while we were there, and none of the employees came to clean it up even though they were standing behind the counter talking to each other. I have to say i was initially reluctant to go with the several recent reviews of bad service. But i came a couple months back and have been returning 1 or 2 times per week. I think they must have made staff changes or just motivated workers. I have been given great service asking me at every step for additions and substitutions for my dishes. They have a creative menu that allows even me with immature tastes to enjoy a healthy meal, to my wife's relief. I recommend the harvest bowl, and i think u will have a nice healthy meal at a decent cost considering these days. read more

I was so excited when Sweetgreen opened a new location in Del Mar Highlands. But this location has been disappointing on several occasions. One evening I placed an order for pickup with an estimated 20 minute time until ready. After arriving and inquiring about my order, it took another 25 minutes to be made while the restaurant was empty. The staff is always friendly and accommodating but it seems to always be short staffed with only one or two people working. The pickup orders also seem to always be half filled compared to the portion size you get when ordering in the store. The Harvest Bowl is my favorite salad and after a few times being out of stock I was finally able to try the new air fried potatoes. The flavor of the garlic aioli and the potato crisps was great but the potatoes were cold and soggy. They'd probably tasted better fresh out of the air fryer than after sitting out waiting to be packaged up. Overall still love Sweetgreen's food but not sure I'd recommend this location and I'm not going to drive out of my way to go to a different one. read more

This particular sweet green gives me wildly different vibes every single time I go in. I've had instances where I've waited upwards of an hour for a to go order I made on the app. I've also had to go orders from the app have the smallest serving sizes ever for the $20 worth of food I was buying. So, I stopped doing the app and waiting in line (Somehow when they have to see you as they make it, it makes them not give you toddler size portions?). That usually worked better until my latest order, I was given the smallest piece of salmon ever and even though I had subbed salmon for chicken a million times before on the kale Caesar salad, this time they instead "custom created" the exact caesar (I made no other changes) and but added salmon which made it over $25. What a ridiculous joke. When I had them re-ring it the right way, the price went down $7. The latest employees seemed to have changed as well. Not happy to be there and try hard to have the other employee help you if possible. Ie, my latest bowl had three separate workers dealing with it at some point down the line and it felt like a hot potato that nobody wanted which is likely why I was so randomly rung up as a custom salad vs the standard. Also why I had to ask three separate times for them to mix the salad for me but they never did...or when I asked for a piece of bread and never got it. I just gave up and will likely drive to UTC mall if I want sweet green next time. This location is just not the place for me. I love the food here, which is why the 3 stars, but boy do you have to luck out for portions that actually fill you and fight hard to be rung up appropriately. And I'm not sure about their rewards program, I've had at least 30 bowls but never seen a coupon of any kind ever? we were super excited to try this place for the first time, but sadly we were disappointed. the first person that helped us didn't explain anything at all, and just kind of looked at us waiting to order. my husband chose greens as his base and out of curiosity I asked her what grains they had and she just gestured to the grains instead of telling me anything. she failed to mention that we can only pick a certain amount of toppings and dressings and so after my husband's fourth topping, they told him that it would be an up charge. when it came to the dressings, she had handed his bowl off to someone else that I believe was newer. first he told us you could get three dressings then he said only two and said since we had already done a medium dressing it'd be extra if we got another medium dressing. overall, just very confusing and wasn't explained at all. the actual taste of the salad was okay but definitely not worth $26. the person that rang us up seemed to be the most experienced and was very nice, but still our experience was subpar. after leaving, I went back to look on yelp and see what other people thought and saw that you actually get a complementary bread with your meal if you ask for it, but obviously this being our first time we did not know that. there are plenty of other build your own bowl places with much better customer service and for a better price. read more

However this was a bowl and not a salad, and there was way too much raw kale for the small amount of dressing that they gave. I also would have preferred pickled or cooked beets instead of raw shaved beets, especially with little dressing. I liked the idea of it more than the bowl, where I'm eating mostly raw kale with no dressing at the end. I will try here again, but I would not get this bowl again, and they really should call it a salad given the high kale to other ingredients ratio! Im obsessed with this place. The first time i tried it was 2 years ago in their carlsbad location. I got the crispy rice bowl. It was SO good. But because it was a little far from me i didnt care to come back. Now they have this location and the one in 4S AND UTC mall. They are everywhere now and i see why. Everything here is local and organic. Ive had a couple hiccups with the greens being wilted and soggy in my salad and the chicken being full of fat but the staff is always so kind and quick to make it up to me. Ever since then its been so fresh and delicious. Its my go-to after a gym sesh and they have so many delicious items. The BBQ chicken salad on their summer menu item is so good i crave it all the time. The dill ranch and BBQ combo is addictive. All of their locations have an aesthetic vibe to them and their bowl containers are so cute. The shroomami bowl or salad (not sure) was too salty for me so my favorites are the bbq chicken salad and crispy rice bowl. read more

Was headed for lunch in the food court above Jimbo's when I passed by Sweetgreen's Grand Opening balloons and wondered what this new place was -Doug & Andy (mgmt) happened to overhear and encouraged us to come in and check it out. So glad we did! It's super simple, fresh, and LOCAL...felt healthier after eating. Definitely healthier than the carbs I almost attacked elsewhere. Since it was our first time, we looked over the menu then trusted the employees behind the counter who made suggestions on their favorites. I ordered a Create Your Own Bowl...definitely recommend adding their parmesan crisps at the end! Great texture and taste. Had chicken (super tender and flavorful) over baby spinach, and added lots of fruit. My friend tried the chicken teriyaki bowl (seasonal), also delicious with their sesame teriyaki sauce. Lose, Lose, Lose--Sweetgreen Fails Its Own Core Values I'm from out of town and mistakenly placed a mobile order at the Carlsbad location instead of Del Mar (both are listed on "El Camino Real" and are 20 minutes apart). When I showed up at Del Mar, the manager looked at my order, confirmed the food had already been made at Carlsbad, and kindly remade it--but made me repurchase the full order out of pocket. He told me directly: "You'll have no problem getting a refund--just email our customer service." I followed his instructions to the letter. Not only was I denied a refund, but when I replied to explain what the manager had promised me, I was completely ignored. It took four separate follow-up emails just to be offered a 50% off coupon for a future order--which is meaningless to me since I don't live near a Sweetgreen. As someone who's been a repeat customer--with at least 10 to 15 visits across multiple cities--I'm appalled by the lack of accountability and care I received. You're a brand that talks a big game about community and values, but you couldn't even stand behind your own employee's word. Instead, you buried my complaint and blamed it on "food waste." That being said...i'm a broke teacher supporting my daughters sweetgreen (& starbucks) habit. With the steep prices I just can't give it 5 stars as much as she says I should. Great lunch spot. I got the harvest salad with kale, chicken, wild rice, apples, sweet potato, and almonds with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. It was light but filling, healthy and tasty. Like lots of other fast casual restaurants, it's cafeteria style (think Chipotle or Cava but for salad). It was $15 for my bowl which I think is a fair price especially for One Paseo real estate. We immediately tried to call the restaurant to warn them so they could clean out all of their food bins and avoid serving other customers the same plastic netting. Unfortunately, their phone was set to not take incoming calls. So then we tried going to the website and contacting them via their online chat, but got an automated response. It was my first time ever at sweetgreen so I got a premade salad, the garden cobb salad, rather than building a custom made bowl. I was disappointed from the small portion I received today, compared to the very full bowls I see people get which I expected mine to be. Especially for $14, it doesn't seem really worth to me. The balsamic vinaigrette was delicious and the salad was good, but I'm not sure if I would get it again if this location is inconsistent. This review is hard to write....i reallyyy like the food at Sweetgreen and what the company stands for, but I swear there is just always SOMETHING with this place. Let me preface by saying I wish I could place my order through DoorDash but the problem is I can't do any substitutes on salads through the app. Even when in my case it's as simple as a "sub Roman for arugula" or "chicken breast instead of chicken thigh" but nope, not an option. There's also no direct line to the store, so in theory I could place my a Doordash order and then call for the easy swap (yes, I've really thought through this. And also, am I crazy in thinking it's INSANE not to have a phone line to the store?!). So lo and behold I'm left with no other option than to put on my travel slippers, a brave face, and head into the store. That's where things typically go from bad to worse. Normally it's small stuff, but i swear every time I come in they are out of something - the type of chicken that goes on my salad, steak, bread, or ripple fries. Sometimes the line will only be a few people long but it will take forever to get through the process and to checkout. Every time I come in I kind of scratch my head and wonder if there is a manager on site because it just feels mismanaged? All this said I'm really not the type to complain so i kind of just shoulder shrug and get on with my night. Tonight however, things came to a boiling point and i really just need to vent (clearly). Let me start by saying I ordered the Ripple Fries at the start of the line. They waited until i made it to checkout (which somehow took 3-5 min due to multiple people taking over my order?? Seriously, as I'm in line 2 people who were behind me are ended up passing me to checkout and I had to physically move out of the way...I digress). Anyways I made it to the front and was told it would take 20 min for the fries to be ready. Not ideal, especially for fries, but I didn't happen to be in a rush so I said I'd wait. I actually know the exact time it was because I called my husband to confirm he didn't mind waiting too. 25 minutes later, with no fries in hand, I checked back in at which point I'm told there were "problems in the kitchen" and it's going to be another 15 mins. From what I could piece together observing the situation back it seemed more than likely my order was never communicated to the kitchen in the first place. 15 minutes later I checked back in, and 5 minutes after that I finally had my order. All in all I wait FORTY FIVE MINUTES....for fries. I literally have no words. Did they refund the fries? Yes. Is it about the money? No. The success of any business is both the product AND the service and I've just been let down time and time again. Oh, and the cherry on top? I got home and realized both my salads were missing the slice of bread. *insert smiling but crying emoji* read more

Food is OK, but a little too heavy on the kale. Everything about this place says, 'Get your food, then please leave!' The ambience is cold and uninviting. There are several uncomfortable small tables along one wall, and a few tables outside. There is a large 'pick up' area on one wall for bags of to go orders. The acoustics in the place are terrible, so every dropped spoon or clash of a bowl reverberates around the walls and ceiling. This is our second time trying Sweetgreen. It's still relatively new, so lines can be long at lunch time. There were two of us and for a salad, a bowl and one small bottle of water, it came to $43.00 with tip. No thanks.
