    Shrimp Taco
    Nick P.

Since we were in San Diego, I wanted some really great fish tacos. I found this place after our hike at Torrey Pines State Reserve. The parking is plentiful around lunch time. We were able to secure a table even though it was busy. We ordered chips & guacamole, shrimp taco, and dorado fish taco. There was a slight mishap but we ended up getting the surf and turf taco for free. Everything was a generous portion. They may look small in the picture but big in person. Kind serving and if you want more water you should have to go to the counter. Prices were fine. -chips and guacamole 5 - huge enough to share between 3-4 people. Fresh guacamole and I liked that none of the chips were soggy. -shrimp taco 5 - I like that these shrimp were like prawn size. They were very juicy. -dorado fish taco 5 - this was my favorite. The fish was beer battered and crispy. They went well with the chipotle aioli. -surf and turf taco 5 - this was surprisingly good. I liked the sauce and filling. Not too salty.

Go for the craft tacos and skip the street tacos for the best experience: 1. Surf & Turf (10/10) -haha maybe it's $10 cuz it's a 10! this was my favorite! The crispy cheese made me really happy. 2. New Yorker (10/10) -the NY-er was my favorite that I'd get every time I go. You get a whole NY steak strip on your taco and the sauce is divine! Make sure to squeeze the grilled lime on there ;) 3. Dorado (9/10) -the dorado was good too, but the other ones just outshined this one. Great with the salsa! We ordered a few more tacos, but the three craft tacos above were the most memorable. All the craft tacos are made with handmade blue corn tortillas which are heavenly. The owner was so kind to allow us to buy a dozen to take with us on the road. He was a little surprised to set a price for it too since nobody else has made this request in the past, but he did and we were so happy! They were piping hot when he packed them for us and we enjoyed them on our way back to LA. Will stop by here as our last stop before heading down the next time we visit SD to do the exact same thing! ;) P.S. the restaurant is located in an unassuming place near offices, but there is both outdoor and indoor seating - very chill!

I stopped by this place while I was in the area for work. It's tucked inside a commercial complex with several office buildings, so I can definitely see why it's a popular lunch spot for people working nearby. I ordered the nopales bowl, and the service was quick. Overall, the flavors were good, but I was a little surprised by the temperature of the bowl. I was expecting it to be served warm, but aside from the rice, the corn, beans, and several of the other ingredients were cold. It made the bowl feel less fresh than I was expecting, and the mix of warm rice with cold toppings felt a bit odd. I also thought the prices were a little on the higher side for what you get. The staff was friendly, and they have plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a comfortable place for a quick lunch.

I would not get the Baja Poke Taco again. I mean it looks great, if what you're going for is Instagram photos lol. But I love both tacos and poke, and unfortunately I found it neither delicious nor remotely satisfying. And for $10... I wanted more than nice plating. Thankfully my wife got a surf and turf burrito to go. That was both tasty and filling! Service was AOK. Didn't leave anything to be desired. Ambiance was... I don't know, sunny? Nothing to complain about.

Food is sooo good!!! Servers are nice and the ambiance is great! Definitely recommend going here if your craving some authentic tacos/mexican food

    California Burrito

Stop in to this modern take on a hole-in-the-wall. With a few tables inside and a few tables outside, the feel is intimate, but casual. Roll up in jeans, slacks or suits and you'll fit right in. The burritos are massive... try the Cali, which comes with guacamole as all good burritos should! The carne asada has a great flavor on its own, but the salsas they serve along side are packed with heat and spices that add-to instead of cover-up. The street tacos on blue corn tortillas are also substantial, with rich distinct flavor profiles; al pastor is grilled to perfection, and the carnitas retains its moisture but doesn't dissolve the tortillas. The refried beans are light, and the rice has a great texture and flavor of its own. Helpful and friendly staff bring your order to your table, and cleanup after. All in all this is a great addition to the area.

The Craft Taco at SOVA is a small spot in the SOVA science district complex in Sorrento Valley serving up fresh food and drinks to the local community. They began as a food truck and moved to this new place around 2023. Very high ceilings, chill music with beats, and an overall great vibe. THE FOOD - Shrimp Tacos: Large, meaty, plump seasoned shrimp with a really nice sear and crust. Served with bright chopped cucumbers and tomatoes, cotija cheese crumbles, purple cabbage, sliced purple onions, micro cilantro, and chipotle aioli. A balanced taco with a fresh lime wedge for extra acidity. - Baja Poke Taco: Topped with lots of wonton crisps. The shoyu, furikake, sesame oil, and aioli combo worked well together, and the fresh ahi poke is nicely seasoned. At $10, a large taco may seem slightly on the splurgy side, but they are filling and tasty, making it a fair value. THE DRINKS - Mexican Red Wine (El Bajio Marselan): A full-bodied, slightly sweeter, acidic red. Pro tip: It is $12 a glass or $24 for the bottle. Go for the bottle and cork it for later if needed, as the single glass is a smaller pour. I was impressed that they evacuated the air after opening the bottle to keep the wine fresh! Beer and kombucha are also available. LOGISTICS & SERVICE - Seating: Room for 12-16 inside, plus an outdoor patio. - Parking: Lots of free parking available. - Service: Max and Jose at the register were thoughtful, personable, and attentive. They were knowledgeable about the menu and the detailed ingredients, which was great.

Dorado Fish Taco Surf and Turf Craft

Service is impeccable, & the craft tacos on their blue tortilla are scrumptious. My partner got the New Yorker x 2 with the Black Ale, and I devoured the Crispy Dorado Fish Taco + the Surf and Turf. Also tried the Classic Margarita (made fresh/ not the mix stuff) along with a beer similar to a Blonde Ale. I called ahead & Marco let me know from 3pm to 6pm they have a Happy Hour. It's only for starters and drinks, & sadly, not on their craft tacos (only on Tuesdays). They brought out a bowl for our puppy Kyoto who couldn't help sniffing the air from the aroma (but no worries, I brought her plenty of treats). Marco let me know you can order from them at the neighboring New English Brewery, but that place is so packed, I am not sure we could get a spot on the patio. We were happy to eat our cuisine right on their patio. The ingredients are fresh, but note of caution, even when my partner got the sauce on the side for the New Yorker, it was still pretty spicy for him. The Serrano pepper ain't no joke. We like supporting local businesses and would come again with Little Miss Kyoto when we want some savoring tacos & good beer.

Super cute spot with outdoor drinking and seating. Comfortable inside seating for 20 people or so. Tacos are large and $10. Smaller ones are $5. Chips and salsa were great. They don't have horchata here but other soft drinks and beer are available. The craft tacos were crazy good. The fish and bulgogi. Wow. $10 is well worth it. Chips and salsa were tasty as well.

Good tacos!!! Check this place out!! Tacos: I got the carne asada street tacos and were good! They use the blue corn tortillas which are made by hand. They have a lot of fun flavors like bugolgi tacos and other bold tacos that I want to come back and check out! Ambiance: it's nice inside and in the SOVA plaza, there's a cool patio area and area to lounge around right next to the restaurant (see video) Service: friendly and no issues! Overall recommended!!

    Hour wait?
    Aj K.

Ordered fries, a quesadilla, and carne asada fries from the brewery across the street. It was a Saturday, but an hour wait for just a few fried items felt excessive. walked across the street twice to check on it, and they promised to delivery directly each time. they then delivered the wrong order. We called to have them pick it back up so it could go to the rightful owner, only to be told our correct order was now ready for pickup only, with no delivery as promised and no explanation for the long delay. Super frustrating and inconvenient for a place literally right across the way. The food was decent once we finally got it, but the mix-up, broken promises, and lack of communication really ruined it. It's one of the only spots nearby, so you're sorta cornered. I just wanted to make you aware of the possible wait

Overall good service and food when visiting Craft Taco. This restaurant reminds me if City Tacos and Salud tacos had a baby, then Craft Taco would be the baby. You get good quality tacos with hand made tortillas and the old school music vibe. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was not overly busy, probably due to the location where it's primarily busy during the week. Very easy to find as it's very close to the freeway exit and lots of parking. We met Eduardo, who took our order and he's also the owner. He was awesome! He gave us an overview on their tacos and recommend some of their specialties. We ordered: Cochinita fries: these were a hefty portion of fries smothered with cochinita pibil (pork) meat that was very flavorful and tender. The fries also had pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole. You also get a side of their salsas both red and green. Their red salsa has a good punch, but not overly spicy, while the green salsa is very mild. Taco plate: This includes an order of 3 traditional tacos and a side of rice and beans. So we had the carne asada, al pastor, and carnitas tacos. My favorite was the carnitas, the meat had really good flavor and tacos are served with cilantro, onions, and guacamole. My least favorite was the al pastor taco, as the avocado salsa tasted too much like sour cream, and it over powered the entire taco, next time I'll order with no avocado salsa. The carne asada meat was tender and was served with onions and cilantro. All tacos are served on their blue corn tortillas that are delicious. This place is definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for some good tacos.

We were at New English Brewing around lunch time. Saw the QR code and we were curious. The QR code took me to a great menu. We ordered a shrimp bowl and two street tacos. Easy. About ten minutes later our food arrived. Very good. New English Brewing's outdoor patio was a perfect spot to eat. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back, too far from home.

Gordo's adobada can compare favorably to al pastor anywhere; however, my experience at this "Gordo" location in Gaslamp has been inconsistent compared to Chula Vista and Vegas locations, due to their higher volume. The smaller space also has less seating, which is a bummer if you are coming here on a busy comic con day. The adobada here, though, is the taco to get. Consider yourself lucky if you get a nice portion of crispy and burnt bits as they offer nice textural bites. Their sauces/salsas are also equally good, and it sets it above and beyond another taquero from Tijuana, Tacos El Franc. Don't shy away from their asada tacos either, as the meat has a nice kiss of charcoal and it's topped with a generous portion of guac. I don't love that prices have gone up to almost $5/taco; however, I'll gladly pay it if they can give me my favorite taco.

The food is still an awesome value and tastes amazing as always. The only thing to keep in mind is that the inside is very small. Because of the tight layout, security can be a little pushy about making sure everyone is standing in the right area and waiting in the correct line for their food. I get it since space is tight, but it can feel a bit intimidating if you've never been there before. Luckily, since I'd been to Tacos El Gordo before, I already knew the drill. The shrimp had an amazing flavor, and this taco was much more enjoyable and balanced. Overall, the service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the protein quality was excellent. My only critique is that the tacos felt a little overdone with toppings and sauces when the quality of the protein could easily stand on its own. It's no secret that San Diego has tacos in…read morespades and being so close to the border, you'd think that a quest to find the perfect taco would be as simple as rolling down to the nearest taqueria. Except, it's not quite that simple. Many beloved staples have gone downhill, while some newer spots that might boast things like a Michelin mention or multiple locations ranging from TJ to Vegas contain more hype and gristle than tender meat and substance. Enter Chula Tacos. Chula is, and always was, the type of place that makes you forget that you're not actually in Tijuana. While part of me misses their OG Market Street location, seeing them with brick-and-mortars feels hard-earned and well-deserved. This location on Palm in IB is relatively easy to access from the freeway, but parking can be tricky. You can safely assume that it will be busy and you will either have to be very lucky or be willing to find a spot on the street. Out of all the times I've been here, it's always been crowded enough that I've never been able to find a table inside, but I enjoy sitting out on the patio next to the ahumederos. The first thing that hits you walking through the door is how amazing everything smells. The queue to the cashier takes you near a window showing the kitchen where you can see the Chula Tacos team making fresh tortillas, slicing meat from the trompos, grilling up jalapenos, nopales, onions, labio, and tripa. For me, it's not so much a challenge to decide what I want, it's more a challenge to keep myself from ordering everything. My usual is four tacos: two asada, two al pastor (but I've heard that I should also try their world famous keka). The tacos though? Perfection. Every time, the asada is the juiciest and most tender I've ever eaten, the al pastor is succulent and flavorful, and no taco in front of me is long for the world. At $3.50 each, every one of them is absolutely loaded. Three would honestly fill me up, but I always want four. After getting burned by spots that ask around 75% more and deliver anywhere between 25-50% less, Chula Tacos feels like an absolute godsend of a Tijuana-style taqueria and I can't see any other contenders being my go-to.
