I was excited to try this restaurant with a friend who highly recommend it, but we both left disappointed. The gola kabab, especially when paired with its accompanying onions and light green sauce, is a tasty appetizer, but it unfortunately gets overshadowed by the rest of our experience. I usually finish all my food, but the halwa puri was an exception. A piney-oil taste unfortunately overpowers every element in this dish. In retrospect, I believe it should have come with a curry on the side as well, so we missed that. The butter chicken has a tomato-based flavor palette, but I wished there is more curry sauce. This may be personal preference, but it felt like a saucy stir-fry vs a curry. Mithas is a neighborhood institution, and I am shocked I haven't written about them before. This is an unassuming Pakistani restaurant on the bustling Coney Island Avenue. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the crowds of neighbors waiting on their food. Service is pretty efficient, they don't take long to bring food out. I recently gave their mix grill sizzler a try which is made to order. The kabab tasted very fresh, the tikka was my favorite. Seekh kabab and other pieces of chicken were also good, although overall I found the meat a bit on the dry side. The samosas here are the absolute best in the neighborhood, the shell is crispy and thin, properly fried and the filling is delicious. Sweet sauce and green sauce are very good. Makhani chicken was average, but Im happy the sauce wasn't too runny or too greasy. There's some room for improvement with cleanliness, when it's busy here; I've had to take the spray bottle and wipe down the table top myself, but it's kind of like coming home and helping out... they are also very well known for their mango cream cake/pastry which is very delicious. I only keep returning here for their pani puri and mango cake- which is very delicious and soft- almost like tres leches. Otherwise I wouldn't likely return. I only gave them 2 stars because I've actually come here many many times over many years and the staff always has a bad attitude, they all look and act like they don't want to be there, also they actively ignore you when you signal to them if you're not a regular customer (I think). I was trying to order a slice of cake- waited in line and everything and the one guy behind the counter actively started taking orders from the men in the line and skipped over me. Don't know if it's a gender thing. And I don't have issues speaking up nor do I not know how to order. It only ever happens to me at this particular restaurant. Also- they take our order, ask us to sit down- and then scream across the place because they can't remember what we've ordered... when we've already been seated and waiting for 5-10 mins. While visiting Brooklyn from Canada during a Canadian lockdown, I decided to get a haircut because in my city there are still no haircuts available. After doing some searching I ended up in the Muslim part of town. After my haircut I was getting a little bit hungry and decided to look for some food. Across the street is this bakery and when I went inside I also saw that they sell Indian and Pakistani foods. My favorite go-to food is always chicken biryani. I ordered that and a little piece of pistachio goat milk cake. The chicken biryani was awesome. I took it home and shared it with my host, it had a wonderful variety of flavors and was spicy but not too much. Very savory and far better than most biryanis I've tried even though it didn't seem to have exactly the normal mix of spices. It was very special. They provided three sets of two sauces, which was a sweet one and a yogurt chutney. That was perfect because actually made three meals out of it, two that night, and one the next night. For $7.... I deducted one point from my review, simply because I asked for the pistachio cake and I pointed to one piece that had a lot of pistachios, and was a pretty good size. But they ended up giving me a piece that had only one single sliver of pistachio.. And the piece was a small one compared to the one I pointed to and I asked for. Not that I should really be eating sweets because they're not good for me. But the cake was delicious, and it tasted pretty healthy too as it's just milk and sugar. read more

While I found the food was lacking the heat I'd expected, it had great flavor. The desserts I picked up were great, but too pricey at $1 each. Come specifically for the naan, which I believe they make cook when you order it ($1, afaik)! I'm not sure if it's a mistake, but I got 2 samosas for $1, which seems too good to be true. It was a total disrespect and a zero attention customer service. First of all, they pretend like they are busy but they are actually not. There was only one table with 4 people having their dinner and 4 staff who don't care who came in and what he/she wants. The most interesting part is I ordered a food to go and waited half an hour and when I asked how long more it was going to take he said what do you wanna order. The cleanliness in this restuarant is horrible. You can just go in and look and you would see dirt and dirty stuff. As well as in the kitchen and the salads. 5 stars for the excellent food for an extremely reasonable prices! We've gotten take-out from here 2 times. I only went in this second time and arrived a good 5 minutes before my husband so was looking at the food behind the counter and one of the guys there was really helpful and attentive and said what each dish was when I asked. We got a lot of different dishes and they let you select small, medium or large containers which is great if you want to try a bunch of things. So tonight we had chicken tikka, butter chicken, and another chicken dish with spinach sauce maybe like a saag. We also had a chickpea dish, sesame bread like a naan, rice, and they gave complimentary salad with potatoes, chickpeas and romaine, and a yogurt type sauce. I had to avoid some hot peppers in a few of the things we ordered or it was too hot for me but if I avoided eating the peppers, the spice-level was fine. Last time we had tender grilled chicken (which we actually hadn't ordered) that was incredible, a daal and veggie samosas for only $.75. Seriously, absolutely everything has been incredibly delicious and it's very affordable. That butter chicken!! Omg so freakin' good. I also really liked the bone-in chicken with spinach sauce. Tonight's meal along with a box of assorted sweets came to $32 but we really bought a lot of food. My husband and I just moved to the neighborhood a couple months ago and so far this is the best food that we've had that's casual/affordable. The menu is quite extensive so I look forward to continuing to try new things- especially since I have not had a single thing I didn't like! I know we will be take-out regulars. My wife and I were craving something flavorful and spicy but didn't want to wait too long for our food. We decided to hit our local desi restaurant that somehow we managed to avoid for the last 3 months. We ordered our usual food (chicken biryani, chicken curry, lamb kebabs a few nans and some samosas) and hurried back home to eat dig in. As usual the meal was on point hitting all our flavor favorites. The food while spicy was not overbearing and you could actually enjoy the meal with drinking 10 cups of water. The samosas in particular were so good. Nice and crisp on the outside but soft and flavorful on the inside. The only negative comment I have would be the chicken curry and the lamb kebabs were a little on the cold side. We warmed them both up and we were in business. This is the best Pakistani food in Brooklyn that I've eaten...it reminds me of a home cooked meal. The quality and taste are very different from all of the other restaurants on the strip. Walking past Mithaas, one can't help but notice the fresh mithaee (indian sweets) staring back from the large glass cases. Hence, the temptation overtook my senses and i stumbled inside. Unlike most pakistani/indian spots, Mithaas is clean and the aroma of fresh food make this place a viable stop for families and friends. Their mithaee was fresh and priced at the standard $6/lb, however wasn't anything special. On the other hand, their Jalebi was sweet and crispy and definitely was their best offering for the day. My husband and I love Indian food and this place is perfect! I need to preface by saying that we do not speak Urdu, Bengali, Kashmiri or any other Indo-Ayran language. Obviously they have never tried Indian sweets. Cupcakes are boring and vanilla. Get Indian sweets! Saved me from having to make the trek to Jackson Heights for halwa poori, and I like their pooris better than the ones from Jackson Heights. They also make really delicious parathas. REAL parathas, not hard fried rotis. I've never had their methai but have heard they have a mango pastry that is very popular. I ordered the Malai chicken kebab and a beef Sikh kebab. In my hungerness, I thought I was about to regret my decision after placing the order my food was not out within 5 minutes. Then the guy behind the counter reassured me by saying "we apologize for the wait, we take our time cooking the food here fresh, there is nothing pre made. We wouldn't feed you anything we wouldn't feed ourselves." He then Gave me a menu and said I can call in advance and they would have it ready. I must admit....I liked that. He was right, ide rather them take they're time preparing my food, and keep it fresh. I can respect his statement. Now onto the food....I must admit I had prepared to watch Jessica Jones on Netflix while eating but my ride home became a mess of me driving, trying to eat naan, and kebabs at the same time. The spices tasted rich, like they were actually picked the same day and not dry, the meat tasted fresh, the flavor combination was perfect. How have I not yet rated this place?!? This is my go-to place with my gal pals whenever we're in the area. It's not too small, not huge. Just right.. The food is also pretty good and fresh (only one [out of 10-15 times I've been there] incident when I bought gol gappe made to take home only to find later on that the filling had gone bad... ) What pulls us in there is the keema nan with that sweet sauce and green sauce that they have.
