This is one of those little hidden gems that's not to be missed in Okanogan County just off the side of Highway 97. Camped in Pateros after backpacking in the Sawtooth Lakes area. We stopped in at the bakery as soon as it opened for the day. OH YUM! I got the bear claw and husband got the blueberry turnover. The flakiness of the pastry on both is among the best I've had (says someone whose worked at many top rated bakeries). So soft, so flaky, so full of flavor. The almond paste in the bear claw was still warm. Mmmmmm. DEFINITELY recommend stopping in, even if you aren't currently hungry! read more

Sweet River Bakery was a wonderful surprise while visiting Pateros. Great outdoor seating and wonderful pastry.

Impromptu stop to stretch our legs at the river park, and decided to grab lunch here. Everybody wearing masks. Takeout only but a bunch of tables well spread out in the back (6-7 in the shade) or you can eat along the river. Everything was excellent - chicken salad, sweet ham and cheese and pesto BLT were all yummy as was a whole fresh French bread. Couldn't resist getting a cinnamon bun - perfection; well, maybe a little too sweet and could only eat the outer rim but so worth the indulgence. I'll finish it off later! read more

Normally we really love this place, but our experience today was horrible. We ordered online and received confirmation to pick up in 20 minutes. We arrived, checked in and waited. Waited another 10 minutes, asked again and the girl at the counter said 'we are really busy with other tickets', so we sat and continued waiting. Another 15 minutes goes by so I ask again at the counter and he turns around and grabs our order. I asked if it had been sitting there a while and he said 'yes it's been ready for a bit'. I told him this was the 3rd time I'd checked in and asked about my order. No apology, just handed me the order and said 'have a good day' Pretty frustrating to not get an apology at all, and have our food and coffee be lukewarm at best. This business needs a way better method to keep their orders straight and called out in a more timely way. read more

While driving in between Wenatchee and Omak, my friend and I stopped in here for a pitstop. We were hoping to catch the live bands that they have here, but they were just breaking down when we go there. Next time! Looks like a small and nice place for music. They were set up outside in the back. After using the loo, we picked up some sustenance for the remainder of our drive along the Columbia River to Omak; sustenance being sweets and beer! ;) I believe I picked up a cinnamon roll (I needed energy to finish off the drive!). We also looked at their bottle beer selection---wanted something for later at my friend's house. They had some nice choices of local brews. Sweet River Bakery and Espresso is the kind of place you expect to find in an upscale neighborhood in Portland or Seattle (or any neighborhood in Bellingham), but here it sits where the Methow meets the Columbia in the southern end of Okanogan County, Washington. We stop there almost every time we drive to Wenatchee, which means at least a couple of times a month. This is not a place with a large selection or menu, but everything is artisan quality. The coffee is Blue Star, roasted up the Methow Valley in Twisp. I wish more espresso bars in Okanogan County would use this exceptionally smooth roast. The sandwich menu uses their Five-Grain Round Loaf by default, but you can ask for any other bread in supply (sometime there is a gluten-free choice, but you might have to buy the whole loaf to get it). The beer, wine, and hard cider choices are almost all from a 50-mile radius. I've yet to try the pizza, but I believe the rave reviews from others. If you are driving US 97 through Pateros, Sweet River Bakery is a must! read more

My wife and I are from Seattle but vacation in Pateros frequently. We were told about this place by friends a couple of years ago and now always make it a point to come back. The staff is always friendly, there is plenty of seating inside and outside. We have only been for breakfast and coffee. Their breakfast sandwich is fabulous, served on toasted bread that they make fresh each day. Every pastry we have had has been amazing as well. We have never been for lunch or dinner but outside they have a stage for live music or other entertainment which we will try when we can. read more

It smelled great walking in, staff was friendly, there were several tables of people in the small dining room, and I really liked the local selection of wines and locally roasted coffee that they serve (Blue Star). A great little bakery/espresso/lunch stop on the way home from playing in the snow in the Mazama area. We had a couple outstanding sandwiches and took home chocolate chip cookies and a beautiful Hello Dolly square of heaven. I highly recommend that you try this bakery if you are anywhere in the area. I was really excited to try Sweet River Bakery out because our local radio station gives it rave reviews. However, my frappe was the worst coffee I have had in a long time. Tasted like and felt like I was drinking sugar syrup. My mom and I both couldn't drink our drinks. We went out to the patio to sit for a while and left early because it was all dirty and dilapidated and not nearly as nice as it looked from the inside. However, the staff was super friendly and the bread we bought was good! Still, I don't plan on going back. read more

We have been to Sweet River Bakery many times. They carry Blue Star coffee which is fantastic. They have a great breakfast burrito. We have enjoyed pizza and salads on a number of occasions. Their fresh baked goods are fantastic. The customer service used to be very good. I have noticed a decline over the last couple of years. We were there this last Sunday and the barista interpreted a drink incorrectly. Or maybe we ordered wrong online . We wanted a peppermint tea. Instead they gave us a black tea with peppermint syrup. I am not sure who even drinks that. She was quite rude about the miscommunication. In the end, one person was trying to charge us for both drinks and the barista said that was not necessary. We certainly appreciated this but her rudeness was definitely not appreciated. This is the second time we have had drinks made very strangely. Maybe they need more training? Guessing they need more staff like everybody else? We will still go back but it is sad to see the quality declining as a result of poor customer service. read more

I got there about noon and the selection of pastries were minimal. I decided on a package of homemade biscotti which were pretty good. Mocha was so-so, nothing spectacular. We drove out of our way to have lunch here on our way home to Oregon. Stopped here last August and were impressed. But not this time. We were the only ones there, made our order, lots of people came in after us. All received their food, ate and left. 40 minutes later we are still waiting for our soup & sandwiches. When I stood in line to ask where our food was, they had lost our order. By this time they were out of the soup we ordered. We should have asked for a refund and left (you pay up front when you give your order at the counter, they give you a buzzer to come pick it up when it's ready, it's serve yourself all the way). I feel stupid to have given a 15% tip up front. Never again. No apology, no compensation. The French bread looked good except for the flies. The soup we got was luke warm. We were an hour later getting home, it was a long day made longer. We won't make this mistake again. read more

Whatever you do, don't go here if you have a nut allergy. We specifically told them my son was severely allergic to all nuts and they made him a sandwich with pesto mayo on 5 grain bread with nuts in it. A restaurant HAS to be more sensitive and aware or something very bad will happen one day. Asked for no spinach on my sandwich and it was littered with it. Don't serve pizza till after 3pm.
