Famously the only lunch option anywhere near the east side of North Cascades National Park, in an idyllic location. The caprese sandwich was pretty good, with a high quality pesto and perfectly standard mozz and arugula, but since all the sandwiches are prepackaged they're noticeably worse for wear. (The famous bread gets soggy.) I also had a cookie, which was spectacular but maybe not $5 spectacular. I wouldn't recommend the matcha. read more

GUYS. Seriously run, don't walk to the Mazama Store if you are anywhere near the North Cascades or Methow Valley area. I'm so incredibly glad that multiple friends told me to check it out because I listened and not only visited but made a point to stay in Mazama which allowed me to soak in the full experience of this magical remote mountain town. The Mazama Store is located right in the center of town (which feels like something out of a postcard) and offers so much more than I thought. It's a rustic yet curated general store with a mix of groceries, local wines and craft beers, gifts and artisan goods, fresh baked treats, a coffee bar, hot food, outdoor gear, and even gas pumps outside. There's also a trail register for the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) thru-hikers which I could have stood and read for hours. Overall, the Mazama Store is part cafe, part supply stop, part community hub - and 100% worth the visit. I started my experience by snagging one of their famous sea salt baguettes (absolutely live up to the hype and then some) and then wandered outside to place a coffee and lunch order. I was pretty hungry after hiking Maple Pass Loop and driving over to Mazama so I opted for a Caramon latte and a pulled pork sandwich, which much to my delight was served on a heavenly sea salt baguette. Every bite was flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. Honestly, I can't tell you which part of the meal was my favorite because everything was so good!! We grabbed a table in the shade outside and enjoyed our food while watching hikers, bikers, and families filter in and out of the store and dining area. The vibe was super relaxed and friendly. Whether you're stopping in after a long hike, fueling up for an adventure, or just soaking in the beauty of the North Cascades, the Mazama Store delivers on all fronts. I just wish I was able to hike more in the mountains surrounding Mazama and/or that this place didn't close at 6pm! Overall, it is pretty rare to find a place that blends all that the Mazama Store is so effortlessly. It is a true gem and if you're even thinking about passing through Mazama, make this a non-negotiable stop. I would spend the night in Mazama just to spend more time at the Mazama Store. Wonderfully curated selection of sundries, groceries, locally made art and pottery, and more. The outdoor cafe is a shaded oasis - the coffees and pastries are outstanding and their prices quite reasonable considering they are the only game in town. A Little Free Lending Library, old-timey gas pumps, water bowls for the pups, and a Pacific Crest thru-hiker trail log add to the ambiance and warm embrace of this special place. read more

Oh my gosh, the Mazama Store is amazing. My fiancé and I have been here a few times in the summer before and have always been impressed, but haven't had a chance to go during the winter until very recently. This time, we had the opportunity to Nordic ski in Mazama and planned our routes to include a pastry break at the Mazama store. There's something so amazing about being able to ski right up to one of the best bakeries in Washington. In fact, I might say that the Mazama Store has the best pastries of anywhere I've ever been.... We both ordered warm drinks, coffee and hot chocolate respectively. And then shared a warm potato hand pie and apple turnover. The pastry is flaky and melts in your mouth, the absolute best mid-ski treat. It's also pretty normal to get a freshly warm out of the oven baked good here. Last summer, I had their strawberry rhubarb pastry and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. The store is also a super cute spot to get any health focused/organic necessities and treats you may need. Staff are very friendly and eager to help. We ended up returning at the end of our ski day to try one of the baguettes. Unsurprisingly, it was warm and the best baguette I've ever had. read more

Always a wonderful experience at the mazama store! We make no fewer than 3 trips to this locale every time we're in the methow valley. Their baked goods and sandwiches are incredible! (salted baguette, banana chocolate chip muffin, scones, zesty sandos, beet+goat cheese sando are our go-tos). And they serve excellent coffee as well! The staff are always very kind. The inside of the store itself is quaint and stocked with interesting products and nice souvenirs (such as the mug i bought myself). Amazing pastry, coffee and cute odds and ends of the grocery and souvenir variety at this rustic nouveau-hippie vibe shop and outdoor cafe. This definitely seems to be a must-stop for the outdoors crowd before a big day doing the outside stuff. It's pretty hard to choose between their sweet and savory pastries, so try both and take a tip from practically everyone you see carrying one of their fresh baguettes around. Get one! They also do a surprisingly good job at homemade bagels, and I don't offer that lightly. Service inside was lovely, outside was brisk, but understandably so. Stopped by Mazama Store and grabbed a strawberry matcha. Jacob made it and honestly, it was one of the best I've had. The matcha wasn't bitter at all, and the strawberry added just the right amount of sweetness. Jacob was super chill and made the drink with care without making a big deal out of it. This place is AWESOME. It is a three minute drive off of the main road leading to all of the hikes. They have grab and go breakfast sandwiches, deli sandwiches, and scones and cookies. I cannot say enough about the freshness, convenience, and taste. The blueberry scone was a work of art...light and airy on the inside, not too sweet, and a crunchy exterior. Literal perfection. We stopped here every morning and picked up breakfast and a sandwich for later. The bread and bagel is homemade. Service is very friendly. The market is well stocked. Don't worry about reviews, just go ahead and stop here. You won't regret it! Delicious hot drinks, fresh food, pastries and desserts are available to eat there or take away. Hot soups are great in a cold winter day. Their baguettes are worth it and if you see a pot pie in the freezer section it is worth it to take home! There is also a fair amount of home goods and Mazama themed goods like clothing and mugs. Basic grocery items, bulk food items, energy bars are all there. There is even a wine section! Luckily, its super well-stocked-- from 7 kombucha flavors, to Gatorade, to high end gourmet items, to overpriced and underprized store tshirts. 7am coffee of all fancy sorts. proper fresh pastries. and 2 days of successive return for the vegetable breakfast bagel sandwich-- good enough to delay our early ascents of Liberty Bell and the South Arete.... I really like this store and I would like it even better if I didn't have to take into consideration flying home. It was like visiting my favorite organic food store at home with home goods, and general convenience store items thrown in. I particularly liked the collection of dishes, cookware, and woven goods. If the store were in my home in Virginia, I'm fairly certain I would have bought several of those items- pottery, bamboo dishes, etc. My only complaint was that the staff seemed rather disinterested- I don't like people hovering etc., but it would have been nice to be greeted with a smile and a "did you find everything you were looking for?" when I checked out. read more

This was a fun pit stop before we made our way into to the North Cascades National Park. The store has a fun hippy rustic vibe and is part general/grocery store and part cafe. They are doing a great job with their COVID safety precautions. We misused around the store admiring their produce, chocolate, nuts and grains by the pound, sea salts and regional treats. Ultimately, we purchased some cheese, carrots and local wild rice/farro mixture. From there we weaved over to the cafe and purchased a coarser sandwich and turkey cranberry sandwich- both were delicious. They offer spacious outdoor seating ideal to make a picnic with your cafe treasures. Don't miss out on their lineup of made in house baked goods. Overall, a fun pit stop along the route. Note: they are only offering porta potty access during COVID and they neighbor a cute outdoor goods shop that's worth popping into as well. Parking is easy and available out front. read more

It was perfect for our hike, and the staff recommended a smoked salmon dip that they were making on the spot to go with the baguette. Fun place to browse for t shirts, kitchen gadgets, etc as well. Our favorite go to at the Mazama store is the baguette. It's a must have every trip, and we often have a few throughout our week long stay. If you're fortunate enough to stay nearby you can justify having the pastries by walking, skiing or biking to the store. You can't go wrong with anything made in house. read more

Three or four years ago, we had some great sandwiches from the Mazama Store! Yesterday, we stopped by on the way out of town to pick up some sandwiches for our drive back to Western Washington. The sandwiches weren't close to our expectation. In fact, they weren't close to what is being represented on their web site. At least update your photos if you aren't holding yourselves to that standard any more. this place is a gem. i want to live in this town just to go to this store. my friends and i stopped by before and after our 5-day backpacking trip in the northern cascades. we couldn't wait to get back to the store for post-trip munching on their house-baked bread and pastries. i bought a country loaf made of emmer which is an heirloom grain. the baguette is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside - exactly the way it should be. they have jun on tap. i filled my water bottle with it. bring your refillable bottle or jar as they don't use plastic! how cool is that? they stock quality eco-friendly food, pantry items, clothing, and items that thru-hikers need like sunscreen. this is a special place on earth! read more

When I visit Mazama, I like to stay within walking distance of the Mazama store. That's how good it is. Lots of skiers make it their destination for a cross country ski trip, stopping here for lunch and a warm up from the cold. There's plenty to attract you besides the heat. Fresh baked breads are the carb platform for various versions of sandwiches including breakfast bagels, and lunch sandwiches of multiple varieties. There's hot soup, cold drinks and a warm and welcoming staff to make you comfortable. read more

I read a blog that said stopping at Mazama Store was a must before heading into NCNP but after reading some of the Yelp reviews, I was hesitant. I'm SO glad I didn't let others opinions deter me! Totally get that everyone has different taste, but I would recommend giving this a shot if you're on the fence. I stopped in mainly for water + to check it out. Such a unique concept in a small town! They have a ton of speciality items + a little cafe/coffee shop. While I didn't order any food or coffee (heading there tomorrow to do that) I did buy a baguette and some items to make our own sandwiches which was great. The bread was soft but firm. I personally didn't love the sea salt outside but my husband did, so I just scraped off of my portions. The best part of this shop was how friendly the employees were! Always great to feel welcome when you're traveling. Overall this is a really awesome store with a lot of selection. Yes, it's pricey but honestly, I have yet to come across a speciality store that isn't on the higher end, so I wouldn't fault this place. Also, making our own sandwiches was an awesome idea and something we really enjoyed. If you find their cafe selection is too restrictive- try this so you can still support this lovely business :). read more
