One of the best little gems we found in Manitou Springs! Everything about this spot was a win. It's set in a cozy house with warm wood details and a whimsical swirl of umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. The drinks were delicious - we had a lemon-lavender cocktail that was perfectly balanced. The highlight, though, was the cauliflower buffalo wings. So, so good! The buffalo sauce wasn't overly vinegary, and the blue cheese dip was creamy without that funky taste, making it the perfect balance. Service was also kind and came with solid recommendations. This is one of our favorite places to dine at in Manitou Springs. The two times we have gone we have sat out on their private back patio which we really enjoy. This time around we ordered the lavender thyme lemonade, an Arnold palmer, and two beers. The lavender thyme lemonade was simply delicious! We then ordered the bacon house grilled cheese, the muffawhateva, the chicken pot pie, and the apple and brie sandwich. Everything was truly delicious. The only thing that may be a complaint of some others is that the time from ordering to getting your food does take a bit of time - they do mention this when they seat you, so you are warned, but if you are on a time crunch, this is probably not your best option. read more

The patio is lovely and was great for dining with our three Whippets. I had the "HERE IS YOUR BURGER," which is a 7oz beef patty, chopped bacon, roasted garlic tomatoes, red onion, house pickles, spring greens, chipotle mayo, and sharp cheddar. The requested medium-rare came out closer to medium, but the burger was still quite juicy. No description of the 'bun,' and it was instead a very good baguette from a local bakery. It worked quite well. Sub the chips for a GREEN GOAT SALAD, which was outstanding, and the dressing was delicious. My wife had the Cubano; it isn't super traditional, again, being served on the baguette, but this was a very tasty sandwich that I can recommend. Another Green Goat Salad, which is well worth the upgrade fee. The prices are reasonable for the portions and quality. Our server was Pete, and he was a delight. We will certainly return. read more

We were a group of five and our hostess found the perfect place for us to relax and enjoy our lunch. Our drink orders were filled quickly. I had a local pilsner that was on tap and quite good. I ordered their Cubano sandwich and my partner had their potpie offering. Both arrived nice and hot and looked delicious. My Cubano was very good, the mix of meats included capri cola, chorizo and pork shoulder worked well with their homemade pickles. The house chips were a delight too. The missus' potpie was, in a word, massive. It featured a pie crust that enclosed the ingredients, not just covering the top as done in other establishments. Came in on holiday weekend evening so many items were out of stock but we got the 2 share items we wanted which was Melty Brie Dip...a meal in itself, tasty and the toasted baguette was fresh and great. We stopped here for a late lunch and have no regrets. We were starving and decided that once we'd looked at Yelp, any place in the Monitou Springs area should not disappoint with tbw high ratings. The Swirl is beautifully decorated and the staff were welcoming and attentive. I selected the chicken pot pie with a side of apples for my entree. It had a buttery puffed pastry on top, with chicken and vegetables within the pie itself was just the right amount of creaminess. The added side of crisp apples paired well after a hearty bite. Normally, I'm a red wine gal, but I took the waiter's suggestion to choose a white; it was smooth and buttery and, as suggested, paired well with my meal. For my partner, he went with the flatbread, which, I will add, was not a thickly breaded. We normally order thin, so we were very pleased that it wasn't too much bread. It was topped heavily with toppings, the sauce was satisfying, and overall, a really good flatbread. The place seems quaint, and there is seating in the alleyway. As mentioned, it is beautifully decorated, and it's a great place to take a photo while on vacation, apart from enjoying a great meal or refreshing cocktail/wine. read more

I love Manitou Springs. We were having a girls day. Wanted to end our day with a glass of wine. Unfortunately they were out of several wines. I was a bit upset since it was a lot of my favorite styles and it is a wine bar. I did find one that was ok. I was a bit disappointed in their bread pudding. It was deflated and seemed like it was made in a muffin tin. Not your typical bread pudding. I did like their small patio. It had a goof vibe. Was in town briefly overnight and stopped in for dinner before driving back north. We weren't disappointed. I got the salad with goat cheese (I forget the name) and it was great. It's kind of basic in the way of a salad and I make the same salad at home but it was still tasty. My friend got the grilled cheese and tomato soup and he loved it. We shared a pitcher of the white sangria which was seasonal with a fall flavor flair. It tasted really watered down though, even from the first glass. We have been to Swirl on the past, but boy was last night a disappointment to the point we won't go back. We waited at a table by the door to get seated on the back patio, and it took a long time despite not being very busy. It was 90 degrees out and we really wanted some cold water while we reviewed the menu, but that was impossible! The four of us commented that we have never waited so long for WATER! 35 minutes til we got a bottle of tap water, obviously unfiltered because we could taste the chlorine, and four glasses. We had even ordered a bottle of wine that we wanted chilled, which was apparently a complicated request for a wine bar, and the wine came, but no corkscrew for another several minutes. Still no water on the table! Unreal. I finally said "we'd really like some water!" And she replied it's coming but we are refilling bottles. It's water. Tap water. Fill four glasses with ice and bring it! Food came in a decent timeframe. The two flatbreads were fine, nothing epic or big, but no complaints. Our friends had beef tips and a shepherds pie that was floating in oily liquid, which she didn't understand because it was supposed to be vegan. She said it was the worst restaurant meal she has ever had; looked like a bowl of gruel. The beef tips were just ok. The service is the main reason we won't go back. When there's empty tables and it takes long to get seated, that is a turn off. Like I said, the wait for water on one of the hottest days was ridiculous! 35 minutes for tap water. We have been there before and had the older man who seated us wait on us and it wasn't much better in the past. To top it off, the bathroom is pretty undesirable. Sure, the building is old, but it's dirty and there's an old mop , and it could be cleaned up. The umbrellas hanging are cute, but add some touches to the bathroom! We met the owner a few years back and she was a classy smart lady, if she still owns its she needs to know customers are not being served well. read more

Cute spot! Came here with the hubs on a late Sunday afternoon to enjoy a bevvie before heading back to Denver. Big fan of the decor and their quaint little outdoor seating. We only had wine so I can't speak for the food, but it looked quite tasty! The hubs had a local red wine and I went with a bubbly - both were well priced and hit the spot. We also ordered their house-made ginger beer to go, which seemed to be an odd request but they rolled with it and it was very yummy and refreshing. Upon first look, the restaurant -- which is a mainstay in Manitou Springs -- seemed quirky and fun. Despite walking into a nearly empty restaurant during the lunch hour on the weekend, it was very fun indeed and especially due to the multitude of colorful umbrellas of various styles hung from the ceiling. The indoor area is attractive but I hear their patio is just as much therefore maybe most diners opted for that seating option. Their menu consisted of the typical wine bar fare with the presence of small bites, soups, and flatbreads, but the sandwiches did occupy the largest portion of it. I had a difficult time ordering from this menu and wished I had just gone for the often recommended brie dip. The sandwiches and flatbreads were a little pricey and often the base prices seemed initially reasonable but only due to the lack of protein. The extra price to add protein was often a bit much ($3-6). I eventually settled with this Thai Coconut Curry Soup ($6) which I had chicken added (+$3) for a total price of $9. I was expecting the texture of this soup to be somewhat closer to curry, but it was very thin. The 2 measly pieces of baguette on the side was so obviously stingy and sad it made me laugh. On the plus, the Red Wine Sangria was glorious, providing the ultimate cooldown after a morning of hiking. Also a positive was the service which was incredibly quick and friendly. Parking will not be friendly no matter the ease of finding it. Manitou Springs is a mountain tourist town and you will not escape the tourist tax, not even at this local favorite. read more
