We came through Colorado Springs on a road trip and met some friends at TAPAteria for dinner. What a fun place! We enjoyed trying different menu items, including Jamon-wrapped dates, gambas y semolina, grilled garlic shrimp, and crema catalana. Our server was available to add to our order but didn't hover, and the patio was perfect on the night we went. We'd definitely go back again. I need to make time to come to the Springs more often... this place was so much cooler than I was expecting. Tapas are such a great option for anyone who likes menu sampling, and this place is also on a certified gluten free restaurant list (per my friend and dining partner) for anyone that might be curious. We came in for an early-ish lunch on a Saturday and were seated on their patio right away. The area was super spacious and felt private at the table we had despite being surrounded by other people. It was a beautiful day so the patio was very comfy; I hate being too hot or too cold when eating, so this was perfect. We took a very long time catching up, but our waitress was extremely friendly and patient. She was great. We ordered a couple of dishes to start (tacos and a salad) and chatted away until we chose our next plates. Each dish that came out was very tasty, beautifully presented, and arrived very quickly. My favorites were the dates and crème brûlée dishes lol. I've had a massive sweet tooth lately so I found these extra yummy. Price was pretty reasonable for two people; our bill came out to be about $75, and that included two mixed drinks as well as all of the food seen here (though don't be fooled because we got two plates of the dates!). I wish there were more places like this up by me, but I do have a couple of very good reasons to frequent Colorado Springs, so I'm positive I'll be back. We've lived in Colorado Springs for 30 years and we're just introduced to this amazing restaurant. Can't believe we've missed out on this hidden Jim all these years. This is our new favorite restaurant and have already celebrated birthdays with family and friends. Everything on the menu is fantastic. This is one of my favorite spots in the springs! The inside is a lot smaller, but the patio is out of this world! It is comfortable, and very nicely set up. Most visits I get the same general dishes, but everything here is delicious- even food I never thought I'd like. No way would you catch me eating escargot before I tried theirs! It melts in your mouth! The escargot, the bison, the shrimp, the potatoes, the salads! It's all good! It was my niece (turning 6) birthday meal! She said it was a big meal and we should come here more often. She had chicken skewers with chips, but of course dipped into our food! We didn't get dessert today, but from past experience I can tell you they are all delicious! The gelato has a rotating flavor or two! They have Ube right now! Looked amazing but when we received our plates, I had only 1 mussel, 1 clam, 1 scallop, a couple of octopus and major dry rice. Walked in without a reservation on. Sunday around 430. We had to wait for a few others to arrive so me and another ordered some wine and a few plates. Our guests arrived a little later than expected and we had about n hour to dine due to a prior hot tub res for 6pm (5 min drive away) not ideal for this type of place as u want to take your time and enjoy the plates and the wines. Our server Megan (pretty sure that was it know it starts with an m) was super chill and kind, knowledgeable about the wines and was super accomodating to our out time. We had more than enough food (stand outs were the patatas, charcuterie and the olive tapenade.) will def be back to try the few items we may have missed. Overall a super wonderful dining experience that felt both fancy and laid back at the same time. Wow, what a great visit! We were in Colorado Springs and were looking for pet friendly places to eat. TAPAteria popped up and we were close by...so close, in fact, we missed it, got in the car, and drove 4 blocks to get back to where we were, ha ha ha! User error, ID10T, PEBCAK, whatever you wanna call it...but we made it! The patio was a challenge to get to with the pups, we had to walk around the building to the back entrance, but there was closer parking and we'll know better next time. If you're coming with your doggos, park closer to the patio, eh? First off, it was early, like 5-ish, and it was cold, so the patio was empty...but our new best friend, Sadie, lit the fireplace for us and helped us pull up some chairs. That's when the fun started; "Relax. Let me get you guys something to drink and some treats for the pups while you take a look at the menu." She then gave us a rundown on some of her favorites and the specials and it was ON. First, the sangria. My kid ordered a couple of these and said they were amazing. Being a sangria lover myself, but also the driver, I tried a sip and was very pleased - full of flavor and not too sweet, just like I enjoy them. What did we order again? Oh yeah, a Garlic Bulb, the Olive and Artichoke Tapenade, Mushroom Toast, Chorizo and Figs, Carne Adobada, Gambas y Semolina, and probably some other things I'm forgetting...I'm telling you, Sadie made this night so wonderful with her suggestions and service, we felt like royalty! I know, a Garlic Bulb? Someone serves a garlic bulb dish? Y'all, it was the perfect compliment to the evening for your garlic lover author; perfectly cooked, soft and fragrant and full of flavor; I had one by itself they were so danged tasty. I think our favorite of all the dishes was the Mushroom Toast...there's just something about a vegan dish that really brings out the best in a chef, and there was no shortage of flavor on these babies. Thick piles of cremini on toast that had that just-right crispy bite...it really was a terrific dish and my girls loved it. Everything we tried was either very good or better - some of it was "wow, omgosh, how did they do that?!!" Good concept, and loved the space, but the execution just didn't follow through. Loved the old storefront/bar set up. Very comfortable. The menu offered four main sections for dinner: small bites, seafood, vegetables, meat. Reading the menu, many items sounded appealing. Unfortunately, the resulting dishes were ... bland. Started with the tortilla Espanol, which had mixed reviews. Followed by the shaved octopus, which shaving reduced the flavor greatly, and the ham in the dish overwhelmed the very limited amount of octopus; the gigante beans were good though. Tuna carpaccio had too much going on - just focus on the tuna. Merguez sausage was totally boring and bland (wouldn't know they were merguez), strange cuts, and mint and romesca sauces that didn't help matters. Ended with the terrible pork tacos - so lame. Boring tortillas, dry, un-flavorful meat; what a bust. Fairly extensive and appropriate Spanish wine list by the glass. Yet again, three of the four tasted disappointed. Sounded like a really interesting place. Looked like a really interesting place. Smelled like a really interesting place. Tasted like a really average place. A restaurant that specializes in a gluten free menu is hard to find. This one fit that bill in spades with a wholly gluten-free menu. We choose a variety of tapas. The Wild Salmon Tartare was by far the most flavorful. The Bison Carpaccio was underwhelming (to be fair we had recently spent a month in Italy enjoying AMAZING charcuterie). The Albondigas were straight up awful. Zero seasoning. And while the figs in Chorizo and Figs were good, the chorizo was like some Frankenstein meat that reminded me of a cross between an overcooked Lil Smoky and a rehydrated Slim Jim. We thought the Gambas y Semolina would likely be great, given the substantial green chili scene in neighboring Pueblo and further south in New Mexico (both, via different chilis, a gastronomical delight). Alas, twas not the case here. The green chili broth barely present and the rest just bland. They tout their substantial wine selection to which I regrettably cannot attest, as my first choice was not available, and other choices so pedestrian that any choice was a sure stroll through mediocrity. My wife's selection was so off, so bitter, that it was sent back. The replacement was fine. Perhaps we visited on an off night. Regardless we'll not risk a repeat. read more

This place located in the charming Old Colorado Springs district is a gem! I sat at the bar and it was fun to watch the food being prepared in the open kitchen. I was surprised by the young age of the very talented chef. I loved their blood orange sangria (and you can order it by the pitcher). Although I was dining solo I came hungry and ordered several things. - Artichoke & Olive Tapenade, 5 stars. So, so tasty! - Chorizo & figs, 4 stars. Tasty figs stuffed with miniature chorizo sausage. - Stuffed Piquillo Peppers, 5 stars. Just perfect. - Smoked Goat Cheese w/side of crackers, 5 stars. Dreamy, creamy cheese. - Almond Tart, 5 stars. Although I was full when I saw this come out I had to get a slice to go, and it make a really delicious breakfast the next morning. This is very well may be one of the best meals I've ever had and I don't say that lightly. I will be dreaming about these delicious dishes for a long time. Our waitress was super friendly and nice. We were drawn to the place because of the smell as we were walking up the street. We had our pick of seats, and chose the patio. There were outdoor heaters all around, but there was no need, because there was plenty of sunshine. We ordered several small plates, all were delicious, our favorites were the shaved octopus salad, grilled shrimp, grilled oysters and artichoke-tomato salad. Still the patata bravas, white bean hummus and egg nog bread pudding were also good. The garlic mushrooms and deviled eggs were only okay. Food was tasty, and well presented. Ambiance lively and fun. Unfortunately, that is where the great experience ended for us. The service was very disappointing, the table right beside us was never bussed through our entire visit, so unappetizing. When we received our first round of food, we had to flag down a server to come back and provide us napkins, silverware and plates and I would describe the reaction to that request as one of surprise...? We were frequently waiting extended periods of time between stops from our server, sitting with empty plates and drinks for long stretches. Every time a new dish came out for us to eat, our used plates were not taken away so we just added to the mess pile on the table next to us lol. When the server finally delivered our dessert he also delivered our check all in one swoop. Felt unnecessarily rushed and we decided to skip our last round of drinks. read more

While on vacation in Colorado Springs, we tried this Spanish place and absolutely loved it. We have lived in Spain and regularly cook Spanish food at home and the tapas we tried were authentic and presented beautifully. The Grilled Oysters were perfectly done and the cheese- stuffed piquillo pepper taps was top notch as well. We also had the Patatas Brava and the boquerones and hard boiled Eggs. The food is fresh, well-prepared, and has a variety of choices. There were four of us and we sampled 12 plates which were complemented by a nice selection of Spanish wines. We enjoyed our experience here. Nothing was great, but everything was good, the service was spot on, they had a delicious cocktail menu along with white and red sangria. We sat on the patio where it was lively but still felt quaint. They kept a good pace of bringing out food so there were no breaks but we didn't feel rushed. While I know people are always pressed about details about the food, nowadays I want to at least have a memorable and happy experience with good food rather than vice a versa. This is a fun place! I always like tapas because you get to try lots of different things. If you're gluten free, this is a great place for you, as everything on their menu is gluten free. We called and made a reservation for a Friday night. The restaurant itself has a great ambiance - great decor and a warm feel. Our server was fantastic. They have a great wine menu (I appreciate having the tasting notes listed since many are wines you don't normally see) and lots of variety in the food menu. I had the blood orange sangria - I am not typically a fan of sangria, but this one was absolutely delicious and not too sweet. Our server recommended 3-5 tapas per person. We ordered 6 things for two of us: Garlic bulb: The toast corners were just OK, but made better by the delicious garlic. Garlic grilled shrimp: Very good. Comes with 5 shrimp and a yummy sauce. Marcona almonds: The salted ones were really good, but we couldn't get much flavor from the spiced ones. Goat cheese salad: Delicious dressing and love the addition of goat cheese. It was good to have something lighter to balance everything else out. Patatas Bravas: Delicious with the harissa. Albondigas: Great flavor but a little dry. I've been coming to the Springs periodically over the last couple of months and have been dying to try this place. Until recently they have been closed except for the weekend but by chance I stopped by on a Tuesday night and they were open and had seating available. I started with the White Bean Hummus and it was one of my favorite dishes of the night. The lemon oil provided a subtle lemon flavor that really gave the dish a freshness that was surprising. Next I tried the Jamon wrapped dates and they were good as well. I was really excited about trying the chorizo and figs. However the chorizo kind of fell flat for me. Kind of reminded me of lil' Smokey's. The figs and basalmic glaze were delicious though. Finally I tried the shaved octopus salad and the tuna carpaccio. Both dishes were just okay. I've had better octopus before. The tuna was fantastic but was overpowered by the wasabi aioli. I was craving something sweet and saw the had a chocolate torte on special. I gave it a try and it was good but tasted more like a brownie. The food was good overall but for the price I was a little disappointed. read more

Went there since two guests had severe food restrictions (gluten-free, dairy-free). The restaurant specializes in catering to special diet, and their entire kitchen is gluten-free. Guest still ended up sick as they were served the wrong dishes and got very ill for a week. This was due to the dishes being served by different waiters, who were not aware of the party's restrictions, and could not flag correctly what allergens were in each plate. It ruined this party's night and end of trip. Additionally, of the 5 mussels served as part of a single tapas (very small portion!) two were completely shut, which mean that they are not suitable for human consumption. It means that the mussels had died before cooking, and therefore were likely spoiled. The chef should never have served these. portions are tiny - for a party of 4 you can count on each plate giving you exactly one bite (e.g. there are four bacon-wrapped dates per portion). Food quality is highly variable, ranging from "edible" to "excellent" - at this price point I would expect less variability and a higher overall score. If you are looking for traditional Galician, Catalan or Spanish in general tapas, this isn't it. Tortilla is more akin to a quiche, for instance, with heavy dairy like cheese and yogurt. Likewise, the pan con tomate is all wrong. Still, if you do not care about authenticity it is good in general. Best gluten-free bread I'd had, though! and good olive medley. Very good wine list, too, but the sangria is watery at best. I recommend that you skip unless you are gluten-free and that is the only restriction. Avoid the mussels. read more

On the past Sunday, I had the opportunity to extend my dining out boundaries and visit this quaint tapas restaurant in the heart of Old Colorado Springs neighborhood. I've been to this shopping/restaurant district in the past so it certainly wasn't new to me. And yet I had not noticed this restaurant when I visited the neighborhood the last time so I'm glad that my friend suggested it. This is a true tapas place where you can only order small plates with a choice of your beverage. My friend and I had the same red wine (Spanish) and we got just what we needed. So if you are looking to have a large portioned lunch or dinner meal this isn't the place for you. The service was really good. Our waiter was really attentive and made great suggestions for us when we were pondering which red wine to drink, which dessert to have after several small plates etc. The presentations for some of the plates were beautifully done. After several small plates, two red wines and a dessert share, the bill was a little over $70 which we split. Wasn't bad at all. Yes so like I said, it's got a good ambience so if you're craving for a good red (or white) wine (they do serve other types of alcohol and the selection is decent) with a few small plates in a very quaint atmosphere then this is the place to go. read more

If you love tapas, try this spot! Everything is gluten free, but who would have known! We tried so many things, and every single thing was tasty. The wine was awesome, and the overall vibe in the restaurant is fun. I loved how the kitchen was set in the center. You could smell all of the food as it was coming together and it was salivating. We did have some hiccups with the service, we were waiting for quite some time to continue to put in orders, for drinks and food. The server did share that they got a new system and that was why there was a delay. Update - I wrote this review while we were still here and we've been waiting for our check while customers continue to leave all around us. Disappointing. Dress was very casual.
