I went for a friend's birthday last night. We made a reservation for 10 but 13 people showed up and they were happy to accommodate us. The bartender/our server was super nice and made really good drinks! I got an espresso martini before dinner and had the seafood pasta "Linguine Tutto Mare." It came with the perfect amount of seafood and pasta. And they provide focaccia with the meal. For my friend's birthday (he's not a desert guy) so they brought him a complimentary glass of champagne with a candle and we sang happy birthday. I thought that was nice! That was not my friend's first time there but it was mine and I would totally go back. Very impressed with Red Gravy. My boyfriend is from stl so he is hard to impress when it comes to stl style pizza, but this place didn't disappoint! The toast raviolis (T-ravs ) were really well done, crispy, savory and hit the spot! We had 2 pizzas, the sausage and pepperoni and the sausage and pepper pizza! I went to Red Gravy for dinner with a group and overall had a good experience. We started with the toasted ravioli, which was delicious and definitely the standout appetizer. The cheese garlic bread, however, felt a bit overhyped. For my entrée, I ordered the Campanella Shrimp Pesto. The pesto sauce was flavorful and the pasta tasted fresh, but I wish it came with more shrimp. Honestly, this should've been a 2-star night, but the staff carried the whole experience on their backs. They were wonderful, friendly, and the only reason I'm not writing a total roast. The food? Yikes. One of our meals was straight-up awful, and my salad was drowning in so much dressing it could've used a lifeguard. The "award-winning" soup? We heard the owner has a St. Louis influence. Being in town for STL I had to try this place. I know my family from STL who live in Colorado complain about not having authentic toasted raviolis. They tend to be cheese filled. Inaccurate for the true appetizer found in STL. This place not only had the correct travs, it had gooey butter cake! Another STL original. I was impressed. Being from Chicago and spoiled by all the top-notch world-famous trattorias on Taylor Street and Lincoln Park, it is hard to be patient with attempts at good Italian out here in Colorado. We have lived here for 5 years now and are still searching, but Red Gravy comes pretty close. Brussels sprouts and calamari for starters, fine. Nice marinade on the sprouts, not overly-drenched in oil like so many. Tomato sauce with calamari was ample and fresh. Tuscan salads were great - fresh, with an artichoke preparation I'm still thinking about - trying to figure out the smoky-sweet combo flavor. Again, dressed well and not drowning. Our server was quite excellent. Attentive and knowledgeable on many levels - from food prep/ingredients to chef's background to downtown Springs activity. Cons: The disappointment came with the sausage/carmelized onion pizza. Believing RG to be an authentic operation, I was looking forward to sampling which sausage they use, but turns out, we couldn't even really detect that it was sausage. Zero flavor profile and fairly scant. Very small pizza portion overall and just MEH. I do appreciate that they offer GF crusts though. Not sure what the head issues were with the host, but he seemed so confused that we wanted to sit at the bar even though there were a lot of empty tables. We asked for one of the 2-tops at the window and he informed that it was reserved. Fine. But 2 hours later, no one had ever come to occupy the table. Luckily snagged a reservation on a Saturday. Service was good from quick seating by the hostess, to various servers helping clear plates and deliver food, to our super nice waiter who helped me select the pesto cream pasta. They smartly dropped two bottles of water at the very beginning so you won't get parched. Food was overall very good. Tried the toasted ravioli (don't think that's my thing but I can see why people like it), but the red sauce it came with was really good-made me wish for some plain bread to dip. The low point was the salad-the romaine was beat to hell, with a few nice red lettuce leaves. However, the pimento, shaved onion, and dressing were quite nice. Pasta: the pesto pasta cream sauce w/sundried tomatoes-I subbed chicken for shrimp-was full of flavor and so delicious. I really wanted to eat the entire thing but alas. I also tried my first aperol spritz cocktail and thought it tasted nice, came out super fast. Hubs paperplane was also good. It has been quite a few years since I last visited this place. My experience had left quite the bad taste in my mouth. I kept hearing people talk about how it was tasty and good and I have finally given it another try. TLDR: We will be back. Lisa was our server and was wonderful. The food was delicious - I even got a fix of that St Louis staple: Provel cheese. Everyone at our table thoroughly enjoyed their meals: chicken marsala, linguini with clams, meat lovers pizza, and spaghetti with meatballs. There were a number of other things I wanted to try and rest assured, we will be back to sample more. The no longer offer brunch - which is fine... their dinner more than makes up for it. read more

We tried Red Gravy for the first time last night. In sitting at the bar for over five minutes, no eye contact no menu then the bartender threw down a few menus. Probably about 4 to 5 more minutes had not asked if we wanted a drink so we decided it was a nice evening, maybe we should sit outside with a server. After the hostess moved us outside, we did not see anyone at our table for at least another 10 minutes. We're about 25 minutes in no drinks no water no greeting. We thought about leaving, but that right at that time a server came out and poured water and took our drink order and we thought we should go ahead and put in appetizer order. Waited for another 10 minutes to get our bottle of wine. The appetizer actually came out before the bottle of wine. We ordered the vodka meatballs and brussels sprouts, while the brussels sprouts were hot and tasty. The meatballs were less than lukewarm and OK. The focaccia is served cold, which was a disappointment and brought after the appetizers. We ordered the mushroom risotto entrée. The risotto tasted like grits or oatmeal probably made about four or five days ahead of time and then warmed up and served. With two of us eating one entrée not even eating half of it. The server did not even acknowledge that there might be an issue. We did have a nice bottle of wine at a great price. However, wine not worth the cost of the meal kind of a bummer because I had high hopes for this place but not someplace I would ever go again. read more

We had to find a manager to explain we were on a timeline and hadn't received our food. This was close to the 7pm hour and the show started at 7:30. When we received the food, some of us got only a few bites before we had to box it up. One member of our party had cold food. I wrote the restaurant directly on their site and didn't hear anything from them. Service was great. Food was not. I got the veal Marsala which I have had at many restaurants. The veal was a little thick and chewy but I didn't like this version of Marsala sauce at all. Went to dinner here last night. I had the veal masala and my friend ordered the fettuccine carbonara. Both were really delicious! We had some appetizers as well. Service was excellent. Waitress and bartender were top tier and on it throughout the night! We were seated in the blue room I think (the back area) and it was very nice. Honestly it was much better ambiance than the front area and I greatly enjoyed the energy in this smaller, quieter section. Went with 3 other ppl and got a table quickly on a Wednesday night. They offer complimentary bread, which was soft. It went great with the awesome mushroom risotto I ordered. It's a completely vegetarian meal. I recommend. My dinner mates had a chicken pizza (he loved it), penne paste (loved it) and another pizza (loved it). We stopped by this restaurant about two weeks ago while in town for the USAFA Prepatory graduation. My nephew lives in Colorado Sorings and loves this place so he brought us here for dinner after the graduation. I had the shrimp pesto and it was okay but not my favorite. For appetizers we had some kind of mini calzones with marinara dipping sauce and it was amazing..we had a larger group.. 7 of us and our server was okay but several times I ran out of water and I couldn't find my server to flag him down for a refill which was a bummer. This place is huge..if you walk back toward the bathrooms, there's a whole other area with a bar and horses painted on the wall that looks like a staple and it is really cool. I might give this place another shot another time but I was not super impressed or maybe my nephew overhyped it..regardless, this place might not be for me, but it might be for you! Good luck. We were seated outside immediately when we arrived, and the hostess and our waiters were super friendly and informative. We ordered the calamari, a cup of the tomato bisque, and the spinach salad (I still DREAM about that vinaigrette I can't lie) as our starters. I ordered the fettuccine carbonara (delicious but a heavy dish - be hungry for this one!) and my husband got the bucatini bolognese. We were too full for dessert, but they had some very tasty options! The weather was perfect for sitting outside - there was some construction during our visit but nothing too wild. Inside it's dimly lit and cozy. The bathrooms are far to the back, so you get to walk off some of the food on your way!
