Pastries are good but the drip coffee is surprisingly delicious. It's rare bakers have such delicious drip.

Swissbakers makes you feel like you've gone to Europe in the Swiss alps. Pleasant surprise, kid friendly, and very nice service. The tomato mozzarella sandwich was nice. They have all you can eat brunch. read more

Definitely great food. I used to come here to grab a bite for lunch or breakfast quite frequently. However, at some point some months ago, they adjusted the price of my favorite item - the ham and Swiss croissant. Price went from $3.50 or $3.75 to an even $4. Normally I'd be one who appreciates price rounding to $4 instead of say, $3.99. However, seeing that '4' next to a croissant, albeit as delicious as it is, and given that I would get 2 or 3 of them, made me realize that I could get a quick brunch or lunch snack for cheaper. Given the expense, and that occasionally the service could be iffy, I think 4 stars is fair. The food really is great, however the experience purchasing it still hasn't beat the first time I tried Swissbakers at their stall at Boston Farmers Market (or whatever that place is called) by North End where I got our croissants within 10 seconds of asking for them. At this location, it can sometimes be 10+ minutes for some reason, even though they're already baked. Sometimes this is because it seems they're in a queue to get heated, but heck, if I'm getting them to-go I probably don't need them heated (though some employees ask before doing so which is appreciated). read more

I finally made it to Swissbakers after seeing it over and over again on Phantom Gourmet. I live nearby in Brighton, so I had no excuses. This place is fantastic! First of all, the staff are extremely friendly, probably the nicest service I can remember in a long time. It was lunch time so I ordered a turkey sandwich on a pretzel roll. The roll was so delicious, I could gave eaten it straight. I got pickles an my sandwich as well, which were whole tiny pickles, so cute (and salty and crunchy, yum)! I also got an iced latte, which was very good, and they can make it nonfat. The best part was probably the chocolate wegglis. These are incredible rolls, with chocolate chips. I'm not a huge sweet tooth and I find most pastries are too sugary, but these were just right. I bought two with the intention of eating only one that day and saving one for breakfast the next day, that did not happen. I can't wait to go back! read more

I wanted to grab a quick bite to eat, so I popped in and got a turkey sandwich on a pretzel bread with cukes, onion, and lettuce with dijon mayo. I didn't really taste the dijon mayo. I really enjoyed the caprese/pretzel sandwich and the salami and pickles one too. The cinnamon Berliner I could take or leave, but the ham and swiss croissant was good. Very loud in there - so spacious that the sound bounces everywhere. I don't feel it was a well-rounded meal, though - I'd like to see more vegetables on the menu. It's a nice alternative to Starbucks and the hipster cafes around Allston. The coffee is good, the deserts are fresh and delicious, and although the food is definitely better than at Starbucks (not a high bar) it's not that great. However, I only tried the quiches, so maybe their other foods are better. In any case, I will definitely keep coming back for the berliners :) read more

I love this place. The staff is very friendly and the owner is there frequently and seems to really care about customer satisfaction. Layout is a bit confusing, however. Food is very good and always fresh. Prices are on the high side, but appropriate for the quality and quantity. Large free parking lot is a great feature. read more

First of all, you have to give it to Swissbäkers for bringing back the umlaut (it's an under-appreciated vowel modifier and I'm glad that it's finally getting the respect it deserves). Setting aside the soap box, the coffee is good and the pastries here are tasty. A little bit more expensive than some other coffee shops, but it's a nice place to hang out especially on a lazy weekend afternoon. I'd recommend downloading their app--it's $2 off your first purchase and they offer other promotions throughout the year. read more

This place is so good. You could put anything on the their pretzel bread and it would still taste delicious, but the fact that they use fresh/quality ingredients certainly helps. They have a lot of seating, both indoor and outdoor and the staff is always friendly. I hope they eventually begin to offer gluten free items for my celiac friends. read more

So I am on my way to Arsenal mall with my kids and I see a little play area next to this bakery. Can't help but stop. Needless to say, the soft pretzels were European. I know my german pretzel, and this is the closest thing to it in America. No sugar/honey added for a change. The play area was fun for the kids, nice open space, tarts are not too sweet FINALLY!! The only reason I didn't go with a 5 star is they have these 'wannabe macaroons' that were not quite right. I really don't know what they are but not a fan. Otherwise good times at swissbakers. we tried a few things here when we had a groupon. Linzer cookie and plum cake were outstanding, and I would definitely buy these again at the regular price. Lots of flavor and not too sweet. The rolls were not my cup of tea - too light, too white, too bland. Those I won't get again. read more

The breads I've tried here have been mediocre at best. I had a bread that was super dry I had to hurt my teeth just to bite into it. Later, I tried their cheese and ham croissants which were good, but I've had better at Pret a Manger. Again, it was dried out. read more

Just went there this morning with a Groupon, (Thank goodness) and was MORE than disappointed. The Berliner jelly donut was fried in oil that was older than me! The bread was hard as a rock, animal rolls were hard and dry as if they were from yesterday and the croissant was absolutely stale. Glad I only spent 10.00 on this very disappointing 20.00 bag of hard stale baked goods. Cutting them up and giving them to the squirrels and birds in the back yard. If I could give a zero star I would. Nothing like Clear Flour Bakery in Brookline where everything is super fresh two times per day. I will never go anywhere else again. read more

Lots of variety of sweets (only good thing). Costly, too many people try to help you at once. I talked to one of the employees and I was told they have to do that because the owner pushes them too. I go here far too often but once you go in you'll understand why. You enter during "guest hugging hours" also know as the hours of operation, and are greeted by some of the happiest looking people I have ever seen. Then you look and you see it ... An entire half of the counter is delectable pastries. You can't resist especially when the magical sample tray is out. I don't even know what I am eating sometimes but I want to moan it's that delicious. Seriously though the pastries are the beginning because they have lunch and breakfast of a more savory nature. Anything from deli sandwiches on hand crafted breads to fully entrees! My only reservation is that the coffee is hit or miss. Sometimes so bitter I can't stand it but other times really blissfully perfect and dark. Go here but be prepared for the addiction and the fact soon they will know your name and hold full conversations with you that just draw you in more. It's more than food. Everything we've tried here has been delicious. The pretzel rolls and homemade donuts are particular favorites. It is clean and cheery with lots of light and windows. The staff could not be nicer! Everyone who works there is super friendly and helpful. At one point, I ordered a coffee drink and then changed my mind after they had already made it. The manager/owner immediately offered to make me a new coffee drink of my choice and was super laid back and nice about it. They also gave our baby girl a balloon. It's small touches like these that do truly make a difference. I'm excited to go back! read more

Happened upon this place completely by accident with a friend as we were headed to Brookline for brunch. We stopped in after brunch and it's a good thing too, or we would have bought one of everything. Short story...this place has free parking, a super friendly and helpful staff, clean and convenient location and DELICIOUS offerings. I almost don't want to provide a review for fear that people will discover it, but it's really a great place and definitely want to see it thrive so it'll be in the neighborhood for ages.
