My husband and I truly enjoy stopping at this restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful. I have a good amount of gluten free options to enjoy and choose from. Today, I ordered a chicken enchilada with a side of chips and salsa. The salsa is fresh, well-balanced with just a hint of heat. The enchilada was hot, cheesy and saucy. My husband has the house-made clam chowder (not gf) and a grilled ham & cheese sandwich. He would've liked a trough full of the clam chowder. Homey homestyle place. Recommended. We ordered the large portion of prime rib on a Saturday night advertised as 16 ounces for $35, but I know it was at least 24 ounces. Cooked correctly as ordered medium rare, it was more than enough for my boyfriend and I to share. We ordered the house chili for a side and it was thick and flavorful. Food quality / price (value) rating 9. The atmosphere is country-rustic, with some high quality taxidermy . This restaurant was recommended to us by a few local people. They offer a popular array of pub / tavern food, and serve breakfast , lunch , and dinner, and they are kid friendly. I had a "Blackwell Dip", basically a French Dip with some sliced mushrooms and caramelized onions and Jack cheese, and a well made tossed mixed salad. The wife had the "Taco Salad", served in a corn chip bowl, that was good sized. We also split a hot brownie Sundae with vanilla ice cream. They have a limited but well rounded draught beer list, and a full bar. The drinks were very reasonably priced, and our bill was less than we both guessed. They're open Monday through Saturdays, closed Sundays, and operate a small casino with about 8 or 10 slot machines. They have Happy Hour, and daily specials, and while you're playing casino games, you can have every other drink for free, or unlimited free draught beers. The service was excellent, and the two servers with whom we interacted (Celia and Kiri) were personable and loads of fun! We originally were just going to have drinks, but stayed for dinner because they were instigators of our good time! The food was prepared well, was good quality, and the charges were very reasonable. Their clientele is made up of local townspeople and travelers visiting the area and just passing through. While visiting Libby, Montana, be sure to visit Kootenai Falls, a beautiful series of large, beautiful, rushing waterfalls that are a short hike from Highway U.S. 2 just a couple miles West of Libby, fantastic! There is also a World Championship chainsaw wood sculpting competition in Libby every year in August where sculptors from all over the world compete for large cash prizes, and offer their creations for sale. read more

This is my 2nd review of this restaurant. My first one, I rated it at 1 star. Let me tell you, things have certainly improved. My husband goes for breakfast there every week with his friend (they grew up together). Anyway, he would come home raving about the food and service. When they invited me to join them the following week, I accepted, although with some trepidation. The restaurant was clean and not overly crowded. We sat down and within a few minutes, the waitress arrived with water and coffee cups. Since I was sitting with regulars, it was clear that she knew their preferences. She gave me a few minutes to look over the menu, then came back and asked the boys if they wanted their usual and they both nodded. I went with the bacon and eggs. Food arrived promptly, and was hot and tasty. Coffee cups never ran dry. She was tipped generously. On our next visit, we got the waitress that I had walked out on previously. (That was pre-Covid). It was like night and day, so I chalked it up to her having had a bad day. After our meal, I went up to pay and started talking to her. She's actually a sweet girl and because we did receive great service, we tipped generously. As an ex server, I know how challenging serving can be. We have since returned many times and each time was a pleasant experience. As long as you keep my husband's coffee cup filled, he is happy and I can enjoy myself. I'm just glad I had the opportunity to return and that first time was indeed a fluke. read more

The worst service possible. Arrived at 7:09, thought it would be busy since it was Mother's Day. Only about half full, one large table of 10 people everything else normal. Probably was busy, since all the empty tables were dirty and/or had tips on them. Waitress never asked about a booster for my 2 year old or anything for my 8 month old. Let us sit about 10 minutes before getting our drinks and another 10 to order. Made the order and waited. Waited. Waited. Waited. My wife had to flag our waitress down (wasn't even sure if it was our waitress since she only took our order and went MIA) to get drink refills. At about 8:10, I was upset and my wife went and asked how long it would be. At about 8:14 they came out and said they would go ahead and put our order on now (like they were gonna screw someone else and make them wait) and it would be ready in 8 minutes. We left, such a horrible experience. Also a lady across from us kept dropping F-bombs LOUD. I would have told our waitress that we don't appreciate our 2 year old hearing that language.... but she was MIA. I live here, but this is the reason eating in small towns that don't have any real options sucks. Drive to kalispell and eat, it would actually probably save you time. read more

Our waitress greeted us with menus quickly but then took 20 min to get our drinks. Walked away so quick we weren't able to give our food order since we were ready. Nicely remodeled. I sat in the bar which was a little loud with the tvs and gambling machines nearby, but it wasn't a deal breaker. The food was good. I had a steak, medium rare and it was more done towards medium. The salad was basic, and a baked potato. All fine. This is the worst place to dine in Libby Montana! I came here over the Summer with family we ordered different food but I got the burger. Myburger was awe full it had a frozen taste to it and no flavor. I refused to eat it and asked to take it back. The waitress was extremely rude. The manager who claimed she was the owner was worse! They would not take the burger off the bill! I have dined all over the country and outside US..never have I seen such horrific customer service and incredibly hostile behavior. The issue I have is that my sister ordered the nachos and was completely done with them when the waitress (who my sister says she has told every time that she is a vegetarian) came over and said "that's right, you're a vegetarian huh? Although the owners have put a lot of effort to upgrade the decor we were totally disappointed in the service and perplexed by the wait times. There were five tables around us that received the same service. Every step of the way was a test in patience. From the time we were acknowledged , finally ordered and had to ask our waiter to bring our food that was sitting out to cool we waited over an hour. I visited Libby from 12/26/17 to 12/30/17. I stopped into the Switchback three of the four nights for dinner and a drink. The wait staff was friendly. I ordered all of my food to go. This is within walking distance of The Venture Inn, even on a cold, snowy evening. Each night I stopped, I was able to get a drink and meal for less than $15. By the time I would get back to my room, I would expect the quality and flavor of the food to have diminished in travel. I was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case. Each meal may not have been as hot as fresh out of the kitchen but that's my fault and they all tasted just fine to me. read more

This pertains not to a single visit but my collective experience. We are Libby part time (~25%) residents since 2017, we are foodies who know how to make great meals at home. We enjoy dining out upon occasion while in Libby. The Switchback is a place we eat at usually every visit. Here are our observations that remain at present in July 2021: - Service tends to be slow, inexperienced and at times uncaring, unfriendly or lacking personality and attention to detail Like flatware for each member at the table PRIOR to the food arriving - Food is average at best, last prime steak dinner was cooked med rare per order but was too cold including potato, veg was mushy and meat was excessively fatty. Appetizer assortment plate was huge but greasy as it was fried at wrong temps - Adult beverages are average pours but higher cost, service slower on these & getting water refills was difficult too (party of 4, drinking a lot of water...bring a pitcher to leave?) - Decor is pleasant with a Montana vibe - Food presentation average - Value is average, affordable family dining but not a bargain by any means. - Overall cleanliness gets a 9 out of 10 - Atmosphere is appropriate but noisy during peak times - Parking is sufficient, location accessible - We know we cook better food at home and should probably reserve the Switchback for burgers & beer out only. My overall rating is a 6 out of 10. With proper management and training it could get to an 8 or a 9 without too much work. I don't know why they don't try to improve...4 years and it has not gotten any better so this must be how they want it and be fine with a 3 star average. read more

The food seemed fresh and was tasty - but how much can a restaurant do to make a pastrami on rye seem special? We headed over here on a visit. While we wanted to visit, we had no idea how long we would be visiting when we came here for dinner. The waitress was very kind. After clearing off a table, about twenty minutes later, we had menus. We got to order about forty minutes in. After placing our orders, which included salads, we did not get the first salad until about two hours into our visit. When we left, it had been over three hours we were there. The food was really good for the most part, however, I was not sure if we were so hungry at that point, it supplied the best sauce. But the portions were good, the food was tasty and the waitress was pleasant. The kitchen staff seemed exceptionally slow. My other comment was that when the oil and vinegar was served with the salad, it appeared to be plain white vinegar for the salad. I was hungry enough that I enjoyed it regardless, but it was not what I expected. I had the chicken Parmesan, which was a large portion which fed my nephew, myself and my brother had a good portion as well of the pasta. The place seemed clean, and we had plenty of time to visit, but just be ready to wait a bit. They did end up giving us a small discount for our waiting, which was well appreciated. read more
