He came 2 years ago and gave us an estimate, but it took us a while to raise the funds necessary for the new pavement. Meanwhile we had gotten estimates from competitors - some less than Gateway and some more. Some of these were only going to clean up the old roadway, put down tacking oil and then repave with 2 inches of asphalt. Gateway cleaned up, firmed up, added gravel and in general did a professional job of preparing the roadway before asphalting with 3 1/2 inches. They have all of the giant "tonka toys" needed to do an excellent job, plenty of workers, and lots of experience. Jeff responded to every request. I usually order a transfer (24 tons) or two from Bodean each year from Susan - the dispatcher. She's friendly, efficient and reliable in getting me the material exactly when I want it. I live 20 minutes west of Healdsburg in the woods. When she tells me the truck will arrive at 9:00 a.m., it always arrives plus or minus 10 minutes. The guys who bring the material will dump it in a big pile where I want it, or lay it out on the road at whatever thickness I request. This saves a lot of tractor work trying to smooth out the rock. My place is at the end of the road and there are lots of trees that hang across the road. The driver took a ride with me to see if he could deliver to me. He agreed to bring material to me if certain trees were cut. These guys have very nice trucks. I always get out with the pole saw to make sure overhanging vegetation does not touch their trucks. They appreciate that and (I was surprised to learn) tell their buddies who fill in for them when they are not available. So, if you respect the drivers, good things will happen. These are local guys who see a lot of roads and know what sort of material you will need and where to put it. Yesterday I checked the major Healdsburg quarry to see how their road base material compared to the stuff from Bodean. Their price was $24/ton while Boden current price is $9.75! Oh... the particular day I choose to have my material delivered, the driver dumped the first box on the road and then went back to get the second box. He saw a tree had fallen on the power lines, broke the power pole and was doing the arc and spark dance on the pavement. He called the fire department - which required he drive his truck a significant distance to get phone reception - then went back to get the second box to deliver to me. After he got his second box, he discovered the road was closed due to the accident he reported. He waited an hour or until he delivered my material. He didn't charge the wait time to do this. Good citizen and good businessman.

We hired Thomas Landscaping to pour concrete in November 2023, and it's been one long chain of excuses and frustration ever since. By December, we noticed the concrete color was completely wrong. When we contacted them, we were told it was "still curing." That same excuse continued for months -- even nine months later! Despite countless emails, texts, and photos, nothing was done. After consulting several independent contractors, we learned the issue was likely caused by moisture during the winter pour -- and that it would never correct itself. When their own concrete rep finally admitted the same, they still didn't take responsibility. Their insurance refused to cover the work because of missing paperwork and uninsured subcontractors. In the end, we paid $47,000 to have the entire job redone ourselves. Their "settlement" offer? $5,000. This experience has been exhausting, expensive, and incredibly disappointing. Please save yourself the stress and money -- avoid Thomas Landscaping at all costs.

One side of circle has fallen away beneath the stones, exposing large gaps, and the whole circle now shifting and needing to be rebuilt properly. Weeds coming up between stones (no barrier). Was told they would be using a concrete mortar between flagstones; not true. Gophers coming up in pathway due to no barrier below gravel. Barrier walls put in too shallow and had to reset more deeply. I've called, written emails with photos, texted photos, and NO RESPONSE. I'm repairing myself (probably re-doing whole thing). Don't waste your time. Find someone who is responsible and honest, and owns it when they fail; that's not this guy!
