Sylvan Cellars has 20 beers on tap! They also offer 30 bottled beers and a massive catalog of mixed drinks and cocktails!

With over 20 beers on tap, more than 30 beers bottled, several wines, cocktails, wine tours, and with new granite counters and a swanky vibe, Sylvan Cellars has everything you could want! Nestled between Rome City and Waldron Lake, THIS is the new hangout spot on hot summer days at the lake. Friendly bartenders will help you select a beer to cool down during the dog days of summer. I tried the Kirkwood Cream Ale from Bloomington Brewing Company, which was a great choice on a day with temps over 90F. Several other Midwestern beers are on tap (although none from my favorite brewery, Three Floyd's). My group arrived around 5:30 pm on a Saturday and was the only group there (with excellent service) until a wedding party surprise-flash-mobbed the place and swamped the poor bartenders. We'll return, as soon as the yuppies have cleared out.

Aboard the party bus taking us to Sylvan Cellars!

The facility is fairly large. The outdoor deck is very big and has a nice vantage over the grounds. The staff was very friendly and professional. It was hard to know how much they knew their wines or other wines since you have to pick the wines you wanted to taste and they gave you a flight to take outside and drink by yourself. I guess it's their approach to dealing with Covid. I was impressed by their system though. You reviewed the wine list and wrote down the 5 wines you would like to try in the circles printed on a slip of paper. Tasting costs $5 for dove tastes. The flight was composed of dive plastic cups on a cute wooden tray. You then took your tray outside to taste at your leisure. I'm glad was tasting outside. I really don't like to tell the tasting server that I don't like ANY of their wines. However that was the case here. We basically picked the dive driest red-white wines they had. I don't know if it was the plastic cup or the wine making process. However, each wine was very plain. It almost tasted like each wine was slightly watered down. None of the five had a distinctive taste that would make me want to buy a bottle. ThT was my experience. I hope yours is different that mine. We will try Fruit Hills again in another season.

The setting itself is absolutely beautiful, but what makes this place worth repeating is that it is definitely more than just a standard winery. The property is surprisingly massive and even includes its own distillery, alongside an amazing selection of wines to choose from. The outdoor seating area is vast and perfectly set up for relaxing, featuring an open field, cozy fire pits, covered tables, and a peaceful lakeside view.

This time was for a Valentine's Day lunch with my husband and we sat at the bar on the distillery side. Ambience on both sides is very good. I had the veggie pizza the first time- it was cooked to perfection! This time I had the tatchos without meat (I'm vegetarian) and they were good but a little soggy. Maybe if the meat was on them they wouldn't be? I don't drink anymore and their mocktail is crazy good. At least they offer one! My husband got the Old Fashioned flight and they were all good. He ended up buying the blueberry and cherry whiskeys when we left. This place has heated igloos, tours, tastings, a great gift shop, and outdoor concerts we plan on attending. We will definitely take out of town friends and family here. Highly recommend!
