Following…read moremy stay, I was allowed to return home, but I was still in need of continuing physical therapy and nursing care. Castor provided me with those much-needed services, with home care visits from two of the most caring individuals I've ever met. I was able to reach out to them via phone or text, when I needed additional advice or support. I could not have asked for anything or anyone better! Now that I'm getting better and their services have stopped, I miss them! I know whoever they're serving, is also getting the best care possible.

Both my father and stepmother are not physically well, and not of sound mind. They are cognitively impaired by dementia, paranoia, and long time addictions that have addled their brain. After things reached a crisis point, their healthcare provider would not release them from hospital without a plan for home care. Visiting Angels were employed to cover this. As mental health kept declining, my stepmother took measures to keep my brother and I out of the picture, even though we have been attempting to care for and help them for years. We were shut out and told that the Visiting Angels were all they need and that we should stay away. My brother and I have had a very good relationship with our father, this was uncharacteristic and most certainly a sign of dementia and stepmother's machinations to keep us out. Since we were shut out, both my brother & I made occasional phone calls to Visiting Angels, maybe once a month at most, to check in on how things were going, and express concerns that we had about their health. I was horrified to discover that the care coordinator was calling my stepmother after these phone calls to tattle on us! This is a breach of my privacy and very unprofessional. Surely, Visiting Angels is aware of the cognitive state of my parents and yet, they ignored that, went behind our backs and reported my brother and I for being meddling. At no point did Visiting Angels tell me when I made these calls, that they would be reporting back to my parents. They did this secretly and without our knowledge and consent. This is a serious violation, and its lucky I don't have any money, otherwise I'd hire an attorney to sue you. My father, in a heightened state of dementia, lashed out at me, became violent, (luckily didn't physically try to hurt me), and treated me like I was some sort of degenerate who was trying to upend his life simply because I was concerned and checking in with the service that he now regarded as more important than his own children. He & my stepmother have shut down all contact and we are now estranged -- all as a result of Visiting Angels making secretive phone calls to tattle on well-meaning children who only wanted the best for their parents. You should be ashamed of your behavior, and someone should have lost their job as a result. I would never recommend this Visiting Angels franchise, unless you want to lose contact with your parents.

We drove 4 1/2 hours, did a 2 1/2 hour intake appointment, only to be told no they would not take our son. Mind you he was a willing participant to come get help. He begged to come to get help. Even before coming were told they could handle his diagnosis. This is negligent , harmful, and very wasteful for families.

The whole point of rehab is to help people who can't control there addiction apparently they "don't have the staffing" if they didn't have the staffing why did they make us drive 6 hours to the facility. He is ready and willing but shows aggression when withdrawing which is pretty regular for addicts these people wouldn't even give him a chance beyond the waiting room overall they basically told us he's to messed Up to be saved they gave us all this hope for nothing.

My mother lived with us and we were so relieved to know that we were not alone in this next journey. We (especially me) were in denial. Mom looked better some days but we still had to look at what was best for her. The nurses and aides were a constant source of information and support for us. There was always emotional support as well! For that, I am extremely thankful. There were some days that I felt I couldn't do it all and I didn't need to worry because I was never alone. When the day came to say goodbye to Mom, we were not alone. Every step of the way, our nurse led us, through the process of making final arrangements for Mom. There are many opportunities available to meet with a counselor alone or in a group. These opportunities include phone calls, texts emails or in person conversations. Resources are provided as well. I am forever grateful for the support from Northern Illinois Hospice and the many people who I have met on my grief journey so far. It was anything but that. On day one we were told a nurse would contact us the next day. 3 days passed before anyone contacted our family. There was no clear directions provided upon admission. Our mother was only in their care for 11 days, if you can call it care, as the only contact was admission and then 3 days later and the day of passing. Then we were told someone would come pick up the bed and other equipment the next day which never happened and required us to call the day after that to ask someone to come pick it up. I understand that doesn't seem like that big of a deal however when you are going through that emotional turmoil you don't want an additional reminder of the pain you already feel. But the final straw for me was the fact that our mother had been gone for 10 days and we had been waiting to bring her ashes home yet we couldn't because the Unity doctor had not signed her death certificate. As a family who is already mourning the passing of their loved one I find it quite unempathetic of someone who is supposed to be a professional with compassion for others, especially in these circumstances. I would never in my life recommend Unity to anyone who wants their loved ones to have compassionate care at the end of their days.
