Now called Journey Care I am very disappointed with the lack of follow through throughout the approximately 7 weeks of which my husband was receiving in home hospice. I had an excellent experience with MW with my mother in 2008 and the 2 experiences could not have been more different. My husband had ALS, basically immobile and could not speak. I was told all his meds would continue to be covered but not true. I was put on hold for at least 3 to 5 minutes when I would call off hours and would wait as long as 2 hours for a nurse. The primary nurse was the only one who seemed to understand ALS and the nurses who did come were unprepared with supplies. I can go on and on and will be addressing in writing. But suffice to say the bereavement services were non existent for individual counseling. 2 days after he died I received a phone call from social worker of which I don't remember as I was probably still in shock. No follow up after. I requested pet visits and music visits from day one and on several occasions and when finally delivered it was too late for my husband to appreciate. Overall my concerns were dismissed and the "end of life" issues that they claim to address were not. In the end my husband became whiter and colder by the time the nurse came at death and noone was with me before death and no visits after. The guilt I feel for not doing everything I could for my husband is immeasurable and when I learn of others hospice experiences it brings to light at how he was failed by this organization and the family as a whole . Considering my insurance paid for the DME and respiratory therapist I would say that MW made money off of us. Overall very disappointed and in retrospect very angry at myself for not being more vigilant. This is the photo of my husband 2 days before death when the hospice finally provided the pet visit. You will note my husband was not alert to appreciate the visit.

I did some searching and found their web site. I contacted they and they were awesome. I set up an appointment with one of the assistive technology specialists. We showed up for our appointment and he listened to my Mom's story. Once he was done listening and asked a few questions he began making suggestions and demonstrating the available technology. After he did his demonstration he left us to try the equipment for ourselves and eventually we decided on the piece of tech that would be suited to my Mom's needs.

Apparently, the center hosts many performing arts programs that include dance, theater, music and more.  When we were viewing artwork of the exhibit, a friendly elderly actor of the center greeted us while taking a break on a comfy couch.  We could hear music rehearsal in the theatre when we passed by. They also have education programs, youth sports programs, a full-service fitness center, classes and lectures -- all kinds of activities that help enrich lives of residents of not just Winnetka, but of the broader North Shore. When I read their Yelp reviews, I learnt that the center is even a popular weddings and events venue!  It is truly a versatile community house! As a privately supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Community House is not funded through tax dollars.  It's good to know that donations are 100% tax deductible.

We had a tour scheduled with Sahra, but it was moved to a different time, which seemed like it may have been to accommodate another group. When we arrived, the front desk gentleman was very kind, but we ended up waiting about 20 minutes while Sahra continued speaking with the previous tour group. She clearly saw us waiting but didn't acknowledge us or apologized when she eventually came over. Once the tour finally started, it felt very rushed. The entire walkthrough lasted maybe 15-20 minutes, and there wasn't much opportunity to ask questions before she quickly moved on to the next area. At the end, I asked if she could send photos of the space set up for weddings so we could better visualize it decorated. Her response was, "I won't remember, just email me--I had three tours today." We were the third tour, which made the comment feel dismissive. What stood out even more was that the previous group had asked about placing a hold on the space and did not receive that same response. Overall, the experience felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. After touring around 20 venues, this was by far the most disappointing experience. As for the space itself, it felt very small and somewhat outdated. The bridal and groomsmen suites were essentially small conference rooms. In my opinion, the venue may be better suited for smaller events like a bridal or baby shower rather than a full wedding. Unfortunately, due to both the service and the space, I would not recommend spending your time touring here.
