I began seeing Dr. Vanloon while she was working at another popular Royal Oak chiropractic office. I almost always was assigned to her for my care and I "clicked" with her. When she left this practice to launch Synergy Wellness, I couldn't help but follow her! Luckily she accepted my new insurance and I was able to make a new appointment. I was appreciative of the time she was able to take when doing her initial intake. This wasn't always the case before, but it seems that in her new practice she is able to give more specialized attention. No X-rays are used to my knowledge and because I don't like the radiation, I appreciate that fact. Dr. V uses KST, which I find restorative. It's not the whack-n-crack-type of adjustment, although I know she studies traditional chiropractic in school and is able to should the need arise. Unfortunately I had problems with that approach before, so KST is why I sought her out in the first place! She uses a gun-like adjuster to target the affected areas and she is able to say things like, "Have you been sleeping well?" And I hadn't. Or, "Have you been under a lot of stress? I see that pattern in your body." And I was! After an adjustment, which feels like "nothing special" at the time, meaning it doesn't hurt or anything... I can't explain it. I feel more balanced and my neck doesn't pop like it usually does. (I find my adjustments last longer when I get massage, too.) I wish I had the money and an unlimited insurance plan, because I would go once a week. I can go every 2-4 weeks though, and she respects my budget concerns. The new office is nice. There are other massage, chiropractic, and miscellaneous service professionals in the building. It's just around the corner from Woodward on 14 Mile. The office space is shared with a massage therapist who specializes in Bowenwork, but it is a different business. I haven't experienced his massage, so I cannot comment. However, the office is super-clean, tidy, and pretty inviting overall. The office looks fancier than the building it is located in, which is older. Booking is easy for the most part. Dr. V does not have a staff right now, so sometimes if she is in session you can't get her directly. I own a similarly-structured small business, so I know that can be a plus and a drawback. But if you are flexible, she is flexible. I've never had a problem getting an appointment. I think you can also contact her on Twitter and Facebook, which is a plus for people on the go. I haven't written a review yet and wanted my first one to be for Dr Vanloon! I've had many chiropractors over the years and would get some relief but all in all I felt it was maybe more in my head that it was helping than not. But a couple years ago I was consulting at a company that had the *worst* chairs I've ever had to sit in and I was having to slouch over my laptop in rock-hard chairs for 12 hours a day. After a couple months of this my hips and back started hurting all the time and I finally accepted that maybe a chiropractor might be a good idea. So I took to yelp and read John G's review. I'd never heard of this new-fangled KST technique she was promoting but his review pushed me over the edge that - okay, MAYBE she's not a nutbag quack. I called and Laura called me back while she was at lunch, sent me forms, and I was in her office for a new patient appointment right as soon as she was back in the office. No waiting at all - which for me is ideal with my crazy, erratic work schedule. I had an hour consultation and first adjustment and knew as soon as I done that I had hit the jackpot! She's smart, funny, adorable and is always interested in her patients. I've never seen a patient in her office do anything but light up when it's their turn. The ultimate victory, though, was when I took my dad to see her. He's had chronic back problems after serving as an Army Veteran followed by being professional mover for 35 years. I don't think i can remember a time in my life when my dad hasn't complained about his back hurting him and he's tried *everything*. It's so bad that he now has nerve damage that his doctor prescribed him serious topical and oral medications to deal with the pain. I took him to see Laura and the next time I saw him I asked how it was for him. His response was that he almost didn't want to say anything because he felt significantly better for several days after. He even slept all the way through the night without waking up in pain. I cannot say enough about Dr. Vanloon and Synergy Wellness. We followed her over from another practice and I am always so happy with that decision. She is genuinely one of the nicest and funniest people you will meet, which is important for a care provider. She strives to fit our family in whenever we need to get in for a quick tune up and keeps us on a good protocol throughout the year. And she's also great at what she does from a technical standpoint. I believe in traditional medicine, but I also know that there are complimentary and alternative practices that add to your health as well. For our family, chiropractic is one of those things we feel is necessary for us. Both my husband and I see her as do our toddlers. Toddlers? Yep. They've seen Dr. Vanloon since they were newborns (and they reaped the benefits of mom being well adjusted while in utero). It's a gentle chiropractic technique she uses, KST, that is safe for even newborns when properly done. And it helped with their reflux and tummy troubles as small infants--things that are pretty common. We still used Zantac and special formula, but the chiropractic helped in that mix as well. And teething babies? Well, they LOVE the KST technique. I cannot recommend Dr. Vanloon enough! read more

An internet search led me to believe Dr. Vanloon would be a good chiropractor in light of the KST technique & several other services unique in this area. Was I ever wrong! "Good" is not an adequate descriptor. Try "excellent" or perhaps "phenomenal". I had lower back lumbar area pain for several months, as well as neck pain from a big painting job I had recently done. After the first (gentle) adjustment, I felt immediate relief/release and GET THIS virtually no back pain the next morning for the first time in months! Over the next few days the neck pain subsided about 80%. A lot of folks sacrifice their health to gain wealth. A modest investment of your wealth here will pay rich dividends for your health. The short version: Synergy Wellness and Dr. Laura Vanloon are fantastic! My wife is pain free after weeks of getting no relief from OTC meds and potent narcotics. I am pain free after a week of sheer misery. The common element: the uncommon care provided by Dr. Vanloon. Immediate and lasting pain relief and improved flexibility after the first visit. No cracking or manual manipulation. The long version: I am skeptical of "nontraditional" health care. In "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" Windex shined (pun intended) as a cure all. Comedian Chris Rock's people supposedly used Robitussin for everything up to a 3 vessel cardiac bypass. Oddly, Windex did not ease my cluster headaches and Robitussin did not heal the stress fractures I sustained becoming a smaller human. Hence my leeriness of "nontraditional" health care. That all changed (ish) when my wife had persistent shoulder pain that even heavy duty prescription narcotics didn't ease. You want some details, right? Here they are: My wife had extreme right shoulder pain for weeks (!) that was not relieved by over the counter NSAIDs. Some stronger meds helped a little, but not enough to compensate for the drooling they caused! Enter Laura Vanloon and Synergy Wellness. A close friend referred my wife there. She went, came home and took a couple ibuprofen, and proceeded with her work-pain free! After her third visit, my wife had no pain at all. None! I tagged along the next visit to see what manner of voodoo this Vanloon person was practicing. There was none! She adjusted my wife's body using the most gentle feeling "gun" like device I've ever seen or felt. I was still a little leery, to be honest. Fast forward a couple of weeks or so. I endure a grueling cross-fit type work out with the teenagers. This included weighted walking lunges around the track (translates to trying way too hard to prove I still "got it") and inverted rows to failure. You know, the stuff kids can do and recover from. The following days my body hurt like nothing I've ever felt. Walking was really really uncomfortable. Everything was. Heck, even blinking hurt. I tried OTC stuff. No help. Rest? No help. Ice? No help. I gave in and called Synergy Wellness. The return call was immediate and friendly. I made the appointment. The office emailed me their forms so I could work on them at home. On appointment day, I arrived in the office, had the initial examination (where Dr. Vanloon murmured that we had a lot of work to do) and a quick adjustment. Then I slowly walked out-waiting for the miracle my wife experienced. Fast forward: I stopped at the grocery store on the way home and as I got out of the car I noticed that I was in much less pain and a far greater range of motion in my legs. I thought it was my imagination. Fast forward even more: each day I felt better. This after a week of horrible pain. I returned to working out and noticed better flexibility and faster recovery between workouts. I am sold. Dr. Vanloon and her staff are top notch and her methods work! Now the ish: I am still skeptical of using Windex or Robitussin as cures for health problems other then diminished vision through dirty windows (Windex) and temporarily relieving the symptoms of a cold (Robitussin). I saw Dr. Vanloon for right neck pain and she is amazing. After taking a full history (who else remembers that one neck injury from 20 years ago?) and completing an exam, she performed an adjustment that resolved my pain in the timeframe she gave me. I have never sought chiropractic care in the past, however I am very pleased with the treatment and resolution I received from Dr. Vanloon. I continue to return to her office on a prn basis for follow up of other old injuries that flare now and again, on the advice of my PMD. read more

I started seeing Dr. Vanloon when she was at another clinic and had always had a great experience with her. Last Fall, I made the mistake of attempting to lift too much weight on a gym machine, without proper guidance, and to be blunt, REALLY messed up my shoulder! I decided to attempt to deal with the pain on my own, until it was too unbearable, so I made the call to Dr. Vanloon earlier this year when I was at the point that the pain was so intense I needed to do something. When I made the call, I could barely lift my left arm in any direction, and I couldn't put any sort of weight on this shoulder. It's was throbbing from my shoulder down into my hand. I was a COMPLETE mess. Dr. Vanloon expressed confidence that she could make me feel better, but that it would take time. Dr. Vanloon started treating me 3X per week, and I felt better, then had some relapses, but I knew I was on the right track to getting better. I never went back to that intense pain throughout this process. I have to say that after her treatment plan for this injury, I am almost 100% better without any intervening by regular doctors. I am now down to seeing Dr. Vanloon every 2 weeks, and my shoulder is doing so great! I am thrilled with my experience with Dr. Vanloon, and I know you will be too!
