I went to this pain management clinic in severe pain from an irreversible injury, and instead of receiving help, I was met with a complete lack of compassion and understanding from NP Termechi. At a time when I was clearly struggling, she was dismissive and unhelpful. The situation escalated, and my mother and I were ultimately banned over what was described as "yelling." In reality, we were trying to communicate through intense pain and distress -- something any trained healthcare provider should be able to recognize and handle appropriately. In pain management especially, patients are not coming in calm and composed -- they are suffering. That should be understood, not punished. It's extremely concerning that a provider in this field lacks the basic empathy and awareness needed to treat patients dealing with chronic and severe pain. NP Termechi needs to revisit the first grade and learn basic manners. read more

I was referred to Synovation (Simi Valley) to find the cause of my pain and treat it, after trying many different treatments: PT, injections, acupuncture, Hijama, chiropractic, supplements, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, red-light therapy, standard meds and I'm sure I left something out but you get the point. NSAIDs are contraindicated for me (GI disease). Starting on the first visit to Synovation I was started on opioids for pain relief and it helped while searching for the root cause. They said they would do MRI's and refer me to orthopedics, which they eventually did, but they were entirely disorganized, kept no records of other medical documents I gave them and didn't record anything I said during the visits. From Aug 2024 to Sep 2025 I was on oxycodone/APAP 10/325 TID (90 tabs/mo) and could work, do PT, and start grad school. It took roughly a year to get clear imaging that finally showed bilateral hip dysplasia with two labral tears and lumbar foraminal narrowing. In the 3 months leading up to that, there was significant provider turnover. My new clinician abruptly discontinued my regimen of opioids and I was discharged. The rapid change led to uncontrolled pain with insomnia, nausea, tremors, and severe muscle spasms). I asked for a gradual, guideline-based taper or a brief bridge and for help transferring care. They claim to be working on the referrals to a new clinic, but I know it will take forever, if they do it at all, so I asked my neurologist who prompty got my insurance to approve and schedule an orthopedic surgeon visit. I'm now awaiting surgery consult and expect 2-3 months of pain until then unless I can get set up with another facility. My request to management: during staff transitions, ensure timely diagnosis and safe, gradual changes with prompt referrals. Abrupt tapers can seriously destabilize patients, especially patients who are disabled with an autoimmune condition. read more

The place is over 60 years old I think the carpet is the same when I used to crawl around. I never got to see a dr they just wanted me to get shots and no meds. Well I'm glad I listen to my instincts I'm getting the care I need some where else and as for that dump staff rude. I received excellent treatment at Synovation. Dr. Leshin walked me through the process of spinal injections, and upon getting them I was only sorry I waited so long. They worked great, but in my case, the relief could only last so long. The PA Orena Massachi was wonderful in deciphering the many issues with my back and when Dr. Leshin reviewed the results, he advised me it was time for surgery. My surgeons Ben Leshin and Reed Levine were superb. The staff, however, are the most dishonest, despicable humans I've encountered in ages. How vile are Synovation Chief Operating Officer Matt Talbot and Office Manager Claudia Serrano? I sued them in court, which I've never done to a medical practice. For years, Synovation successfully treated my spine. Over and over, the protocol was identical: a brief consultation -- with no physical exam -- followed weeks later by epidurals. This maintained my health wonderfully. Then COVID hit. Due to the pandemic, I lost my job and housing in L.A., then drove to the East Coast to seek work. While there, I suffered a severe episode with my spine. The crippling pain left me unable to walk or stand. Sadly, when I phoned 213-839-1119 to book the Zoom consultation required to authorize another epidural, Claudia refused. I reminded her that they had *never* required a medical exam as a precursor. The surgeons had already diagnosed my condition, and never demanded new in-person exams or tests. Not once. I reminded Claudia I was poverty-stricken. Yet this soul-less leech demanded I needlessly fly 3,000 miles for a brief chat that required absolutely no examination. To be clear: BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER COVID, SYNOVATION OFFERED ZOOMS ANYTIME IN-PERSON VISITS WERE UNESSENTIAL. YET THEY DENIED ME THAT COURTESY, CONTRADICTING THEIR OWN ESTABLISHED POLICY AND COSTING ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. By every metric, my request satisfied their existing practices. But I did not give up. I phoned repeatedly. I left 4 urgent voicemails for COO Matt Talbot. He ignored them. I begged Claudia to ask Brittany Jarrell -- the physician aide I always consulted -- to approve Zoom. Brittany rejected my plea, claimed Claudia (who rudely hung up on me when I requested her last name to file a complaint.) Synovation's denial left me no choice but to fly from NY to LA for no reason. Between airfare, hotels, food, and car rental to their Wilshire Blvd office, I had to borrow over $2,000 to satisfy their idiotic whim. This tale gets worse... if that's possible. Prior to my in-person visit with Brittany, I could barely contain my anger. Her demand to see me in the flesh was the reason for my nightmare... I planned to give her a tongue-lashing. "I'm outraged you denied my reasonable request," I told Brittany. "You approve Zooms when the wind blows, but you won't give it to a broke, unemployed patient on the other side of the country??" To my shock, Brittany replied, "I was never told anything about this. Nobody said a word about you wanting Zoom." CLAUDIA, YOU REPEATEDLY CLAIMED THAT BRITTANY GAVE A HARD NO. THAT MAKES YOU A LYING, UNETHICAL VULTURE. My consult with Brittany lasted -- like it did the prior half-dozen times -- barely 3 minutes. As I correctly predicted, she never examined or laid a hand on me. As always, it was a cursory conversation.... further proving that my Zoom request was unequivocally reasonable. In court, COO Matt Talbot made a feeble, fraudulent attempt to condone this nonsense, alleging "In-person exams are required if you request painkillers from our doctors." I told this corporate shill, "Never once did I request painkillers. They don't help, and I don't want them." You want more evidence of Synovation's unprofessionalism and dishonesty? I conducted an experiment. After the pandemic subsided, I phoned their office, pretending I need an appointment. A friendly receptionist named Jasmine (who is 100% innocent here) asked me verbatim: "Do you want to come to our L.A. office in person, or would you prefer a Zoom visit?" This contradicts every word Claudia spoke, and justifies my disgust. Synovation's repugnant deception denied my patient rights by refusing to provide the Zoom courtesy that countless others received. I don't understand why this medical group only has several stars. But I must tell you that I have been with them for years and left for a bit because of insurance issues, but have just returned. I am under the care of Dr. Leshin who is one of the most caring and supportive doctors I have met in a long time. He listens to my concerns, helps me achieve the goals I need to accomplish and provides the right treatment may it be medication etc., that is suitable and best for me. I believe that these poor review come from those who are not humble or respectful to the office staff and care providers. Or those seeking "meds" without medical justification, as people of such kind only hurt and hinder treatment options for people like me. This place is a 5 Star medical clinic and Dr. Leshin is one of best doctors out there. I part by adding that when you visit any medical office be respectful to all the staff and understand your provider and you must work in concert to accomplish/treat your individual needs. The front desk staff is the worst I have ever encountered in my life. Rude, unhelpful, uninformed, and never follow up on anything. The number they have doesn't even go directly to the desk, you're lucky if they ever get you transferred to the right place. My first appointment here was canceled (after over a month of waiting in excruciating, debilitating pain). They called me an hour hefore the appointment to cancel because there was some match/parade going on that was blocking the street their building was on. I looked it up and this event happens every year on the same day, why would you even book anyone at all and also why would you cancel day of to someone desperately seeking care. So ridiculous. I finally got an epidural from Dr Leshin who is a nice doctor, but has the worst staff representing him. Even on the patient portal, they uploaded my height, weight, and vital signs that they never even took, just sloppy. I go to my follow up after the epidural today, took me over an hour to get there (in pain mind you) and had a really hard time finding parking. They do not validate and I'm not paying $20 for a 5 minute apppintment. I ended up inside the office ten minutes late and they took my copay and I sat down. They then said because I was 15 minutes late they couldn't take me. Mind ypu, I was only ten and why would you even take my co pay if I wasn't going to be seen. You'd think you'd give someone some grace after all the trouble it took to even get there while in pain to a pain management clinic. So trashy. The doctors are great, the office staff is great, Synovation's administrative/phone system and procedures are a nightmare. Once you're in the door, at 4 of the offices I've been to, you'll find friendly staff, clean offices, great doctors. The problem lies in trying to get anyone on the phone who can get you in the door to actually see a doctor. Their whole system is very user unfriendly. For example, in their Culver City office, you'll find great people in the office but they have horrible reviews b/c they don't seem to take phone calls when their office is open and it's nearly impossible to get the busy staff to call anyone back when they are open. I've liked every doctor/NP I've had at Synovation except a NP named Brittany and fortunately she is no longer with the company. Dr Leshin, who does the injections and procedures is awesome. Samara was great. Dr Kim was great. I've found that if I am having a hard time getting a particular person on the phone that if I dial 1 to make an appointment, those people are generally able to do more than just make an appointment. Update. For all those looking to file a class action lawsuit about the hiring of nurse practitioner.Jinseo Choi, looked her up, she's only been license since 2020 as a geriatric NP! She has no business working at a pain management office, let alone running it like she practically does. Unfortunately, due to this one nurse practitioner, Synovation Medical Group has gotten a horrible reputation. There are some excellent doctors that work at Synovation Medical Group, but stay away from the Los Angeles office! I am in complete disbelief that they would hire somebody such as herself except for the fact that it was right in the middle of the Covid pandemic and everybody was desperate for nurse practitioners doctors whatever they could get. Apparently the original doctor that used to run the LA office left for some reason and even warned patients about there being problems with nurse practitioner Choi. Either way by now, if Synovation does not get the hint that this person needs to be out of the medical business, or at least not be working for a pain management office, there are no more excuses! there are laws behind prescription opioid medication protecting patients so that doctors cannot just stop all of the medication. In my case, this was supposed to be just continuation of care, and they had to approve me prior to coming in upon looking at the records, they were expecting to prescribe me my medication, but I called the office concerned about all of the talk about nurse practitioner Choi, they were ready for me. Knowing I was 4 days, late due for a refill, she absolutely refused to fill me even an emergency those until I could get back to the Pasadena office! That is illegal, and that would have killed me had I not had a few extra pills! I have had several heart attacks and mini strokes as a result of my pain alone let alone the fact that my physical health is so bad I would not be able to survive drug withdrawals. Thank God for nurse practitioner Termechi at Synovation Pasadena for rescuing me from this horrible decision I made! Pain management has become an absolute nightmare, and the last thing we need are unqualified people breaking laws in the medical industry! VERY unprofessional, possibly malpractice. Doctor Choi, without having ever met or diagnosed me, tried to tell me that I needed to be weened-off of low-dosage hydrocodone because it conflicted with a medication I did not even take, and that she could not pronounce. It got to point I needed her to spell out words. I asked her to please speak clear English. Instead of trying to speak more clearly, she argued that she spoke perfectly clear English. Instead of providing someone who could speak more clearly, Claudia ("the person in charge") (who spoke much more clearly) insisted doctor spoke clearly and said I was "discriminating" against her because I couldn't understand what she was trying to say. They cancelled appointment and discharged me because they couldn't handle fallout of their own incompetence. read more

I would give -5 stars if I could .If you need help, this is not the place to go to anymore. When the real Doctor Chaggen was there this place was great but she had to leave for personal reasons so now I say Stay away. Nurse Jinseo Choi is possibly the most incompetent person I have ever met. I was told she was going to be difficult to deal with when she took over after the real doctor left but instead I got stuck with this nurse practitioner who cares absolutely nothing about any of the patients there. She also has a very difficult time speaking English, and I'm not saying that to be discriminatory. She also can't count, I had to prove to her on my phone, the amount of days it was since my last refill because she couldn't count .She was very quick to dismiss all of my claims of pain even though I have been treated there for over seven years., records of multiple amounts of surgeries to my spine, shoulders, wrists, ankles, legs, knees. She immediately wanted to take me off of my all pain medication as well as other meds I need daily, and when I told her that I would go through withdrawls, her response was " It'll only be for five days, you'll be fine".And then she left me with absolutely no medication. When I claimed that she didn't know what she was doing and she hadn't read my file she immediately got up and left the room. She then proceeded to come back in, leaving the door wide open for everyone to hear my personal health information that being the staff and all the people in the lobby. That is a clear violation of HIPAA laws she not only did this once, but she did this four times. When I proved to her that she was incorrect about the amount of medication, and when I'm supposed to be taking it, she again then stormed out. I had to take a drug test, which I do every two months there and I pass every single time, but she proceeded to treat me as a drug seeking addict, and possible drug dealer and refused to give me my medication. When I would not take that as an answer, she just got up and left again with the door wide open and everybody hearing every single thing that we said. So she violated HIPAA laws probably about five times within 30 minutes she then proceeded to pull my DEA report in front of everyone and show me the medication I was taking which clearly I was aware of because I take it every day. I was also scheduled to have three surgeries done through them, and when I left, they refused to give me a follow up appointment. She had all of my surgeries canceled and had me banned from the clinic. So then again, I am left with no medication and now no real doctor, in severe amounts of pain and then spent about two weeks going through withdrawls of medication that I have been taking for seven years from them. She had several months to read up on my file. She never once looked at it. She had no idea who I was had no idea about my procedures (dozens of which I had done there by the GREAT Dr Leshin) had no idea about my ailments never checked any of my CT scans or my MRIs or my x-rays she never did anything. Synovation Medical Group approved this woman to work there and now they are responsible for the medical malpractice that Choi committed. They are also responsible for the several violations of HIPAA laws that she committed on that day. This entire appointment was being videotaped by me with her full knowledge because I showed her my phone . She is a horrible person and should not be allowed to treat anybody. I know of several other patients there that are filing a class action suit against Jinseo Choi and Synovation medical group. She has done nothing but ruin peoples lives leaving us in pain, misery, emotional distress, and then has the nerve to have the patients banned from the clinic leaving them nowhere to go to get help, just make us sick So I repeat, do not come here ever read the other reviews. There are several other people complaining about Choi and the other doctors in the new office. I have already filed complaints with the California Board of Health, Medical Board and several others against her, and will be filing several more. And the front office, They are absolutely horrible as well. They lied and are accomplices to falsifying medical records. She was willing to take away all of my medication and send me into horrible opiate withdrawals and be hospitalized cause of it, this is not a person that should be treating anybody. She should have her license revoked, and I urge anybody who has had an issue with her to do the same as I did, and file a complaint with the health board of California. urge you to contact the others in these reviews to possibly band together.
