Have only gotten delivery from here, but they're tasty and super affordable. Broccoli beef, green beans, ginger fish, mu shu pork... quite happy with everything. Journey of finding a Chinese takeout... This checked off most of the boxes for a standard takeout joint. The dumplings were good (I like the thicker dough they use), shrimp with broccoli was good along with the fried rice (always on the search for places that don't use that strange, yellow rice in their fried rice.) Wonton soup was ok and the lo mein had a good texture to the noodles, though something as slightly missing from the flavor. It took me over an hour and a half to get my order -- I called after 30 minutes and asked where my order was and was told it was on its way! Then 50 minutes I called again and the same response -- it's on its way! NO -- it was not on its way. It's one thing to blame it on the computer if I had not called after 30 minutes and was told it was on its way. And, honestly, it was not that good. Ordered this place because it was close to Lidl, and was too late to cook dinner. There weren't many recent reviews of their Duck so I was taking a gamble. Glad to say that the Peking duck was good. It seemed pretty fresh and they cut out all the duck fat which is great. Duck is hard to eat when it's super fatty but this place carves it all out and leaves the crispy skin and meat to eat. I used to love love their food. I often order delivery I never stepped foot inside. Unfortunate I decided to stop by few weeks ago and I don't think I will go back. The place needs major clean up. There was a pile up of some vegetables at the corner. The floors were slippery and dirty. The entire front desk looks dirty. No other Chinese restaurant has ever been able to even come close to Hunan Kitchen's Gen Tso's bean curd - it's unmatched - the texture is perfect, soft on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. This is the best-tasting, most reliable "Americanized" Chinese food I've had in years. To me, this is EXACTLY what one hopes for in good Chinese take-out. I ordered online, not expecting much, and was so pleasantly surprised. All of their chicken dishes have that all-white meat, tender chicken with a puffy, crispy breading - and their sauces are excellent. Everything I've ordered here (over many occasions) is reliably great. I especially love the lemon chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and the chicken lo mein, but their General Tso's and Egg Foo Young are also excellent. The location itself isn't much to look at, although it sits in the middle of a newly renovated, rapidly gentrifying plaza. (I don't think they even allow seating right now due to COVID). Normally not a fan of the local Chinese spots in Virginia but this would be one of the better places to order from. The wait for delivery is usually at least an hour but the quality of food is above average with pretty decent portions. The fried rice is actually fried and not just rice drenched in soy sauce and the various combination dishes they offer generally tend to taste like they were made to order opposed to reheated from sitting out for an extended period of time. I have loved their food for several years but haven't had time to review them on Yelp! The quality here is consistent. My husband loves almost all Chinese food but I am partially a food snob... There are few Chinese restaurants that perform up to or near my expectations. This place definitely meets them! My favorite two dishes that I use to measure Chinese food success are General Tso's Chicken and Shrimp Lo Mein. Their Shrimp Lo Mein is flavorful and garlicky, with plenty of shrimp to go around. The shrimp are deveined and shelled. The General Tao's chicken is just the right sweetness with enough sauce to go around. It is mildly spicy which I prefer but not too spicy to cause stomach problems. Overall just a great place for take out and clean if you want to eat in. read more
