We came to Carmel for a staycation so I didn't want this experience to ruined my day. They failed left, right and center. I went for an ombré pedicure while while my gal got the mani-pedi-wax. Fail on all fronts. 1) ombré sucked and looked nothing like the picture I presented. 2) her manicure was so painful we had to have it removed within 18 hours. They used "dip powder". It created bubbles like cheap plastic wrap, and she was really in pain. 3) her wax was the perfect combo of "painful" and "blotchy" No thank you. read more

Salon was clean and one lady was nice of two. Was very nice and quiet but the service was terrible. They didnt have matching pink acrylic for my fill and tried to fix it with pink nail polish which bubbled and looked horrid. I got a pedicure and they tried to shove me out the door with my birkenstocks on and folded and manipulated the material and told me to cut my sandals so it wouldn't smudge my nails since they were still wet. When I asked her to fix the bubbling polish on my nails she told me she had used an old top coat. Now I have to get them re-done. They are so ugly. And poorly done. I usually have a regular place I go to back home for basic pedis but just wanted to get a relaxing pedi while on vacation and this was not very fulfilling. Nail Emergency! T & L to the rescue! "Emergency" is a bit of a stretch, but to some, chipped polish on a fingernail could be one? I had gotten a shellac manicure at my regular Denver salon on Thursday evening. And on Friday, the polish on my left middle finger was completed cracked and peeled off. No one wants a naked nail in Carmel, so a quick trip to T & L did the trick. It was a busy Saturday morning but they fit me in - only about a five minute wait. They had the OPI polish to match the rest of my manicured hands and the whole process took another five minutes. $3 plus a very substantiative tip later, I was super happy. I love getting my nails done. I go every two to three weeks for gel nails and a pedicure. I happened onto T & L Nails after a little reading on the internet. How lucky was I? Very! I had the best pedicure I have ever had, not your usual rushed service but leisurely and it lasted an hour and a half. I don't know if this is normal or because it was a slow day, but he spent more time and it was a treat. I then received a dip manicure which I had not tried before. Carmel's the kind of place that makes you want a pedicure real bad. It makes you want a lot of things you don't need, but if you're going to buck frugality and indulge, this is the place to do it, right? I didn't want a spa pedicure, just a good basic pedi to get my snaggle-toes looking sandal appropriate. T&L was just the remedy! Nothing fancy, not too expensive, quick and efficient. $30 for a pedi (that's more than I pay in Oakland, of course) but the quality is top notch and the sheen on my paint has stayed for a week. Pleased! We called to make an appointment an hour in advance, and they happily took us, right on time. They have nice massage chairs, a clean shop, a TV and good girly magazines. Absolutely the worst nail spa I have ever seen. I took my daughter here for a Christmas Eve Girls spa day and the employee working on my daughter's nails did not use any tools to cut off her cuticles, only used the electric file and cut her two times then used her own nails to pick off the remaining cuticles. the employee then left her nails with gel and clear nails polish on all of her finger tips, was very abrasive and rough with the nail file and left my daughter in tears. Not to mention, my daughter had to ask for them to re-do her nails a second time because the first time the woman did it way too thick. I would NEVER recommend this place if you care about the health and safety of yourself or your daughter. I am Very upset and disappointed with and I don't even know how this place can even consider themselves professionals. I had to end up taking my daughter to a second MUCH MORE PROFESSIONAL and CLEAN nail salon on the same day just so the new salon ladies could fix T & L's horrible mistakes!! read more

Over Priced Service with Under Par Delivery Over the past weekend my BF and I decided to come down to Carmel to escape the poor air quality in the Bay Area. We had some extra time and thought to get our nail cleaned. We went to T&L because it was walking distance from our hotel and also the online review is not bad. He had his finger/toe nails trimmed and cleaned; I had the mani and pedi set with shellac for mani. Honestly speaking, I had the worst experience. First, nail polish was applied very unevenly. My shellac looked so ugly the next morning that it was simply beyond fixable. Secondly, there was barely any massage time. Both my BF and I got about 3-4 min message on our legs and none on our hands/forearms. One hour later our bill was over $90! The service they delivered definitely does not justify their price tag. Comparing to the Bay Area typical nail salons with a little more trendy and upscale ambiance, I can say conservatively it is at least 15-20% over priced. I am not sure if the 4/5 star reviewers are real or they just don't know what they are missing out. Take your money elsewhere; absolutely does NOT recommend. read more

The down side is, it's only been 5 days and my gel nails are already lifting and falling off. If attention to detail is important to you avoid this place. The woman was nice, (3 stars instead of 2) but she up-sold me on getting dip nails ($40 versus $25 for gel). When I commented that it looked very thick on my nails she said "it looks nicer on longer nails, it's because your nails are so short". In that case why did she upsell me on dip? When she said ok you're finished, I looked and there was color polish all over the skin around my nails and they looked like a child had painted them. I suspect perhaps her eye sight is not great. I asked her if she was going to clean them up and she seemed annoyed and confused but proceeded to use a rubber dremel on my skin and said "I don't want to hurt you". It was an odd experience. I don't feel like my standards are incredibly high but I do think when you pay $70 for a mani/pedi it should look great when you walk out the door. They look ok. See pics... read more

I went with my daughter for girl time to get a pedicure but the woman doing my daughter's toe nails kept messing it up, then half cleaning and redoing it over and over again. she doesn't even clean off the whole nail. The woman doing my pedicure did not apply a second coat. she kept going through the motions to make it look like she was doing it but she only put one coat and just kept running the polish brush over without adding any polish. They're very stingy with the polish and would only apply a thin coat and not go over it again. all this for $55 per person. Horrible service !!!! LOVED my experience here with Jen! She was top notch! I was visiting Carmel for the weekend and was pleased that they could take me in the same day as I made an appointment. I'm very picky with my nails, but Jen was outstanding and paid very close attention to detail. As someone else mentioned in her Yelp review, Jen perfected the half moon shape along the cuticle. So... we are in town visiting Carmel for a wedding and, due to a time crunch leaving town, I had to find a place to get my manicure done up here instead of my normal place down south. I Yelped nail salons and found these guys...deciding a manicure is a manicure. While my technician (I have absolutely no clue what her name was because she didn't speak to me once) did a good job filing and shaping my nails, as well as her application of polish, she did a piss poor job of cleaning up my cuticles (the most essential part of any decent manicure, in my opinion) and she rushed through it in under 15 minutes. I understand that you're busy, but I made an appointment. And since I'm in the beauty industry myself, I ALWAYS tip well...IF you give halfway decent service. All in all, if you're in a pinch? This place will get the job done. Just don't expect it to be anything to write home about. I'll definitely be fixing my gels when I return home. It's been two weeks since I went in to have gel polish removed and get a new manicure, I'm writing because I don't think I should still be in pain. The first two days my cuticles were extremely painful. When I got to my car after the manicure I noticed my nails were incredibly jagged and uneven. I couldn't wait to get home and try to fix that. My nail technician attacked my nails strenuously with the Emory board, besides my cuticles hurting due to aggressive cutting I assume, it seems she almost filed a couple of my nails almost completely through from the top of the nail. When I'd gone in for the initial mani/pedi my nails were natural and very strong. I got gel then and everything was fine. They brought in a different woman to do my manicure I hadn't seen the first time and so I'm writing this. The skin next to my cuticles is still red and my nails are so weak I have to stop often when I try to do simple tasks that used to be no problem. I'm sorry to have to write this negative review because I used to recommend this nail spa to out.of-towners. I cannot recommend this spa anymore, buyer beware. read more

This. Place. ROCKS! Best mani-pedi I've ever gotten, ANYwhere! I would be a regular if I were a local. Unfortunately, my friend and I are only in town for the weekend to kick off our spring break. I made an appointment a few weeks in advance, since we'd planned our trip beforehand, but when we arrived (on a Saturday late-morning) it was completely empty except for us. I don't know if that's how it always is, so I guess making appointments here would be a good idea. The salon is adorable -- small and VERY clean. Tiffany and her colleagues will take good care of you. They're perfectionists. I felt valued as a customer and didn't feel rushed at all. I am a local and go here twice a month. Tiffany is very accommodating and very helpful. She is the owner and tries to make sure all the walk ins get serviced. My nails and toenails always look great and the foot massage almost puts me to sleep. Tiffany took special care with a woman I help that has callouses on the bottom of her feet.
