We acquired a 100-year-old Steinway grand a few years ago. It hadn't been tuned in years and had been moved twice, so it was way out of tune. It was easy to make the appointment with T & S. Todd arrived at the scheduled time, and did an extremely thorough job with the tuning. While he was working, he gave us lots of information about our piano, including work that was done on it previously. Considering how long it took to get our piano back into tune, I expected to be charged extra, but I was only asked to pay for the standard service. We've since had our piano tuned again, and also had some work done on the action and regulation (both Todd and Sharon were there for that). The additional work was excellent and our piano is sounding amazing. Both Todd and Sharon really paid attention to detail, including making some adjustments on the pedals, cleaning up our very dusty soundboard, and adjusting the keyboard lid. Throughout, they've always sent messages in advance to confirm appointment times, arrived on time, and were super pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable. Excellent service. Very reasonable prices. Sharon was so nice and patient on the phone and when she arrived, I thought we'd get our 121 yr old Estey Piano tuned. Turned out that it couldn't be fully tuned so she tuned it to itself so it's about 1/2 step down cuz the string would probably break if she cranked all of them by a 1/2 step. It's fine for beginning. Gave us a quote for a rebuild and only charged $70 since it wasn't a full double tune. She gave me a lesson on these pianos and what they could do. Will consider the rebuild at some point. They aren't pushy, but diligent. You can tell she loves what she does. read more

Updated a month after the tuning and voicing: No doubt Sharon is very nice, punctual, and maybe very skillful as a technician. She thought my piano wasn't tuned right, she could tell the previous technician used an electronic device to tune it and it couldn't compare to aural tuning. I don't fully agree with that but that's not important. My piano had a very unique bell like tone, delicate sound and an effortless touch, it just sings. But after the tuning, she was very confident that i would love it, and it just needs to be played in for a few weeks. Now a month has passed, and I gave it a chance, it just doesn't feel right, all those characters of an european piano were removed, and it now requires lots of force to bring out the tone. It just sounds too dark to my taste, i know this is a very subjective thing. Now the thing is I have no doubt she may have the best skills as a top notch technician, she may have served lots of musicians and they all loved her as she claimed, but people have different preference and taste, I would want a technician to "work with" the client, and really understands what is the client looking for. That being said, I am still very grateful for her coming out especially im out of her service area. read more

Just had Todd over to tune a 1985 Yamaha baby grand (G1) that I grew up on; it was just moved to our house from my parents' a few days ago. The piano hadn't been used or tuned in over 6 years, ever since I ran off to college. Todd is punctual, extremely thorough, and knowledgable. He asks useful questions and provides a customized plan of action so that all parties are happy (including the piano!). My piano was located in the living room with concrete floors, and since it had never been voiced properly, was emitting a harsh tone, with the sound bouncing around all over the place. Todd not only went through and tuned the piano twice, he also did some voicing to improve the tone of the piano tremendously! He also provided excellent suggestions on how to mellow out the sound more, by putting a rug or two below the piano. The piano sounds great, and my ears aren't aching anymore from banging on an out of tune piano. AWESOME! If there were six stars, I'd give it to them! I researched several tuners and decided to give them a try due to their email explaining that they twice tune and include pedals. I have an older spinner upright piano that hasn't been tuned in years. Todd spent a good two hours on it with a wonderful caring attitude. He tuned it three times! I recently bought a used Yamaha U1 Vertical piano on Craigsist. The piano was about 40 years and had seen a lot of use and maybe some abuse, including moisture and possibly smoke damage. It was sitting in a garage, the tone was dead, it was out of tune, and the action was all wrong. I got a great price on the piano but was worried that I got a lemon. Todd came highly recomended, and I was really happy to have both Todd and his wife Sharon do some work on the piano, and bring it back to life. All their work is by hand, they still tune by ear, and they are extremely affordable given the amount of labor that is usually involved with piano repair. They did some repairs on the action, reshaped the very worn hammers, did some regulation, tuning and voicing. Todd and Sharon were very professional, super friendly, and answered all my questions about the piano and the work they performed. The piano now plays and sounds beautiful.
