My mother bought her first non-keyboard piano in the US from this store during the pandemic and this review is overdue. I believe they have also closed this location and shifted to a new location on Arroyo - but wanted to get my review in. As other customers have similarly noted, Leonard is very kind and patient. He does a wonderful job matching pianos to customer needs. He worked within my mom's budget, both recommending different pianos and giving her ample time to play each one. Based on her feedback, he would recommend a new piano, and the process would repeat. Ultimately, Leonard showed my mother a used upright Petrof which she bought and has been playing almost every day since. The music has been a great comfort to my father and me. They also handled the delivery with professionalism and care, esp. given the pandemic. I don't play seriously, but I'm impressed how well the touch and sound has held up on the Petrof since it was purchased - I take that as a sign of how seriously they take their inventory for their used pianos. Leonard, the Piano Sales Consultant is an excellent example of what a professional salesperson should be. Not pushy, and just let me take the time to look around and wait to answer any questions. I came in just asking about a good digital Piano. But after I tried some of the digital Piano, I realized it's not too much of a difference from my own digital Piano even though if I wanted to get a better one. So I asked to let me check out the real Pianos!! Leonard was very patient to show me and let me just try different Pianos. Then when I asked some questions he started to educate me about how to choose a Piano based on the interior make up of it instead of just going by the big brands. I felt like I took a free class about how to buy a Piano from him more than listening to a salesperson pushing me to buy something in a rush. This was a very good sign that he actually cares for the customer instead of just trying to do the business asap. I am passionate for playing the Piano, so I really want to invest in a real Piano. But I did go to some other shops and they didn't make me feel confident enough that I can make the right decision about which Piano is the best for me. With Leonard, I felt like he was like a friend trying to share his knowledge with me so I can choose the best Piano for my lifetime purchase! And it's nerve wracking to make such a big purchase!!!! I hated it but had tried to resign myself to the idea that an acoustic piano wasnt possible in my situation. He showed me wonderful choices and lit the hope in my heart that I could own an acoustic piano afterall. I fell in love with a Schulze Pollmann piano that had a device for apartment dwellers to practice softly. it was made in Italy and absolutely beautiful. At that time I couldn't afford it. in the meantime, I decided to leave California (where I grew up) and moved to South Dakota. Piano stores up here are virtually nonexistent. In June I was back in California for a sad event. a funeral. while there I stopped in the piano store and to my delight, Leonard was there! He helped me find the same kind of piano I'd seen the year before and, having received a small inheritance I was able to buy it. without Leonard's help and expertise I don't think that piano would ever have made the long trip from Pasadena to South Dakota. Wow, what a Negative experience! My Husband and i just bought a home with a large Living room and were excited to upgrade to the Piano of our Dreams! . A friend offered to swap a Older Concert Bechstein (needed some work) for one of my Husbands Sports cars. Before committing we thought we should look at few other Pianos. Our Budget was limited to $45K, which sounds like alot but really isnt when considering a quality instrument. I stopped on my way home from The Gym on a to look at what HPC had in Stock. It only took a few moments playing to know ..my Heart belonged to Steinway. But The Salesman/Owner? was down right rude.! His opening line." Do you want to buy a Piano TODAY?" Wow havent heard a line like that since shopping for used cars as a Teen! I feel Steinway does make the Best sounding Piano. I dont Need to hear a sales sales person make Insulting statements about other brands to convince me. Totally Low Class! No wonder that place was empty! Thank Goodness there is another Steinway dealer in the area, with sales people that actually have manners.! They helped us find a beautiful "B" within our budget! After the piano my daughter inherited from my wife's grandma gave out, we faced up to the fact that we were going to have to buy a piano. When we were in Pasadena one day, on a whim, we decided to drop in (we had not looked at any other stores, yet). When we walked in we were greeted by the proprietor, Remington, who was very professional. He asked us what we were looking for, and he listened carefully, and throughout our experience he only showed us pianos that were within the range of our request (upright, used or new, good quality on a budget), even though the store obviously has much more. The first thing he took us to was a used Sohmer & Co (top tier) that had just come in two days prior and had not even been cleaned up, going for $3600. My daughter played it for awhile and fell in love! He then showed us a few new uprights in the $8000 range, and explained the details of the construction and the pros and cons of each. She played the new ones and even my untrained ear could tell that the sound quality was well below the Sohmer. I bought the Sohmer that day and we've had it for about 4 months and still marvel at the deal. I recently purchased a Roland LX-series from Hollywood Piano in their Pasadena location. I settled on the digital Roland after a prolonged debate between the pros and cons of an upright acoustic at this comparable price range. Remington Tang/GM is both a teacher and an accomplished player. After spending a long while patiently explaining and showing me the advantages of the latest LX-series, he also helped me and my family compare the feel and sound of Roland's latest digital pianos against similarly priced upright acoustics and even concert grand pianos at a much higher price range. There was no sales pressure nor pushing of any specific product or brand. He was just there to educate and hopefully help me and my family find a suitable piano for our needs. His pricing was competitive and extremely fair given that it was a NAMM piano with 4 days of minor use. When it was delivered, it looked new and included accessories were all attached. In fact, Remington offered to trade up the included piano bench for free when I initially expressed my concern that it was not adjustable. Who can argue with that kind of service to ensure a happy client post purchase?! I also want to give credit to Denis McCarthy who was also very helpful in the beginning of my shopping process. I also had bad experience with HPC and I wouldn't recommend it. If you want to go there to see pianos....BE PREPARED and bring the money with you!! I could afford the most expensive piano in the showroom, but I wasn't sure what to buy at that time. The sales person asked me to go for a cheap one and he asked me to pay right away. He wouldn't let me go home to think about it. I felt he was being too pushy and I didn't like his attitude. When I decided to walk away, he got extremely mad at me for not buying. Neither my wife nor I knew what it would take/cost to put a baby grand in our living room.
