I never planned on being a single mother, but sometimes life sets you on an unexpected path. Being a single mom is one of the hardest, most empowering things I've ever done. I wish I could return to the moment in time when I enrolled my three young children and myself for LTSD. I wish I could whisper in that new single mom's ear and say, "This is a flagship moment in your new life; this is going to transition you and your children into finding you are stronger than you ever imagined." Together we have entered numerous karate competitions, ranked up several belts, and dragged ourselves to class when we would rather stay home on screens; we have found grit, bravery, hope, and a new family...a karate family. I am also an educator. The students and young black belt instructors are a vision of hope in a world that sometimes feels hopeless; watching them instruct my children makes me know the world will be okay. Karate kicks hopelessness. All the AP and honor classes in the world could not compare to what path this will set your child on. I used to carry a grief that darkened my soul. The classes for younger children that my son attends have a good mix of instruction and activities to keep the kids engaged and active. They have a nice area for parents to sit and for my daughter who is not yet old enough for karate to play while her brother trains. I have done martial arts for years and TOKPV came recommended. Her son is wonderful and had it not been for her presence we would not have left. Each time she was there, my son did not even want to get out of the car. I was never comfortable leaving him for class when she was there and would always stay and watch. She was never that horrible to my son since I was there watching her but would constantly confront me asking what was wrong with him! The way she talks to the children is abusive and at times boarders on assault. I cannot believe this place is still open....
