T's Restaurant & Chicken Fry was a very satisfying and interesting experience. The vibe was good from the moment I walked in. There were a lot of people coming through, including tourists, and even with a line, the place felt well orchestrated. The food line moved smoothly, the cashier rang up the payment efficiently, and they also asked if I wanted a drink, which made the whole process feel organized and easy.
I tried the chicken plate with greens, fried plantains, and boiled cassava/yuca, and everything had that comforting, home-cooked feeling. The chicken was well seasoned, the plantains added a nice sweet contrast, and the cassava made the plate feel hearty and complete. I also tried what tasted like curry goat or curry lamb with mashed potatoes and greens. The curry gravy had good depth, and the whole plate was very filling.
The okra and spinach were cooked very distinctively. They were not salty at all, which made the taste different from what I am used to, but it was also a good experience because it allowed the natural texture and character of the vegetables to come through. As someone who grew up with Malaysian food, I would say the flavors here are not as intensely layered or spicy as what I am used to from Malaysia, but the overall look, energy, and setup gave me a familiar feeling. It reminded me a little of a Malaysian street mamak stall: casual, busy, practical, with lots of prepared dishes and people moving through the line.
This is not fancy restaurant food, and that is exactly what I liked about it. It feels real, busy in a good way, and satisfying. I care most about whether the food tastes good and whether the place has character, and T's delivered on both. I would definitely come back when I want a hearty plate of comfort food. read more
