Visited TShop today for a Tea Journey tea tasting. The owner was very friendly and guided us through the tea tasting, sharing her vast knowledge about tea. She was very easy to talk to and you just feel like you're chatting with a friend and learning about the teas along the way. We were able to try teas that we don't often see elsewhere, such as the Boseang tea. The space is tucked away in a building far from the busy streets of trendy Nolita, it feels peaceful and quiet. It was a great experience and the hour went by very quickly. Many customers came in to buy brewed tea to go, or to just have tea and hang out there as one would at a cafe. Super quiet and hidden shop in this neighbourhood that serves a nice place to enjoy tea and take a "tea journey". The ladies who run the shop are super passionate about tea and specialise in the Gong Fu style of serving tea through multiple steepings. We sat down and drank tea, talked about all the intricacies of how tea is a lot more complicated than the stuff that is bought in the market. Overall we had 3 teas, 5 steeps each, and talked for 2 hours. The experience was great and I had a blast. Cute little tea shop! It's kind of hidden in the Nolita area, and it's very easy to walk past it if you're not looking for it, since the door from the street isn't labeled. I had to be on the lookout for 247 above the door, accidentally walked into the wrong door, and then went into another door where T Shop is located in the very back. It's a small space with New York minimalism, very different from tea shops in Taiwan. A good friend and I met up there for tea time on a Friday night after work. On a cold and rainy New York day last month I was looking for something to do and to warm me up and thanks to Yelp I was able to find this little gem of a shop. It's owned by a lovely woman from Korea who is obsessed with tea and she is the epitome of a small business owner and you want to support her passion. Obviously, there's tea tasting at T Shop. There's also a super extensive list that you get to choose from ranging in price from around $15/pp to $50 depending on what you're into. We opted for one of the white teas and you get to taste it five different times during its brewing/steeping period. You also get to learn a ton about how tea is grown, processed, etc. so it's super educational. My advice, sit at the bar so you get the best attention. Great rainy day activity. Place is a little tough to find as it's located in the back part of a hallway but, worth it when you're there. read more

This is a lovely hidden tea shop in Soho/Noho. It's both an AAPI and woman-owned business, so what's there not to love? Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I try to stop by and pick up a cup to go. The teas that they curate are from China, Taiwan, and South Korea. Their current Korean teas, from Hadong and Buseong provinces, are beautiful and delicious. A good, hidden find! I came here with two others and we were able to get a table on a snowy Saturday evening. We ordered a pot of one of their roasted teas, which lasted us a while and was the perfect amount for us. The place was a little hard to find, but it's just tucked at the end of a hallway/entryway. There are a decent amount of dedicated tea places popping up -- this is a solid one in terms of flavor and authenticity, but I felt it lacked a little on curation and the space itself. We only got the pot, not the tasting, which I imagine would have had a lot more of that curation component I was looking for and have experienced at other spots. One of my friends had been here already and she suggested this place and we decided to give it a shot. It is a bit hard to find but going inside it felt super peaceful and home-y. Since we were there to literally drink tea we decided to get three different cups of tea. I got the green jade which was a green tea and one of my friends got dong ding reserve and I do not remember the name of the other one my friend got. It did take a bit of time to get our tea since it was the owner making the teas for all of us. But the tea was absolutely delicious and it was good to catch up with each other (a tea shop that quiet is most likely not the place to do that, we were aware), but the owner was super nice about it. People came in and out to learn more about the tea ceremony and sample the tea but it was still really peaceful in there and just a super nice relaxing environment. This place is tucked away in the back of a space in the middle of bustling Elizabeth St. It's very small and looks like someone's apartment. They have several options for tea: you can do a tasting where you get to know one tea very well, get a simple pot of a teabag of your selection, book an appointment to try speciality teas, or share a pot with a group of friends. We opted for our own cups and tried two different types of oolong teas. I loved the Red River Oolong-you can taste just a hint of subtle sweetness in the smooth waves of the tea. The owner is very considerate and offers re-steeps as soon as you're done. What I like most about this place is the homey atmosphere. It honestly feels like you dropped by someone's house to have tea and it's a very nice way to recharge during a busy day. So you have an option to either: - Tea tasting (5 tastings) $10 per person - Cup of tea (One pot per person - they will re-steep it and leaves last several times) $5 per person - Gong Fu Style - Tea for whole table - $25 We wanted to try various teas, so we went with a pot of tea each. We tried the High Mountain Oolong, the 4 Seasons Oolong and the Red River Oolong. The worker here was really knowledgeable, as we just gave him what hints we wanted in our tea and strength and he found appropriate teas for all of us. We enjoyed every single tea - it's clearly high quality here. The High Mountain Oolong was strong and a bit bitter at the end, which I enjoyed. The 4 Seasons was a nice, green tea with sweetness. It was a bit quiet, as we were the only party, so it made us a bit self-conscious. There also were tea pots everywhere so we had to move around several things and service was a bit slow, but we sat for 2 hours undisturbed for $5 per person with amazing tea, so I'm very pleased. I don't often do yelp reviews, but this place was amazing. Found the shop through reddit.com/r/tea. Huge selection, amazing wealth of knowledge, and it's a great experience. It's $25 for brewing gong fu style at a table (and that's for the whole table, not per person, so it's good for going with company). The price might seem steep (no pun intended) if you're used to crappy tea, but the fact that you can walk into this place and it's QUIET, and you can sit there and brew over and over and over as long as you like makes the price worthwhile. I went with a friend and selected a nice rich oolong. We say for an hour, brewed probably 12-15 pots of tea, and enjoyed relaxing in a very quiet room (with wifi, in case you want to bring a laptop and work!), and we each paid 12.50. This is a hidden small gem. It is very easy to walk past the store without noticing it. You would probably notice a psychic sign and that is where the shop is (next door). There is minimal seating indoors, but there's a patio for outdoor seating (in the works). T Shop is singularly and unquestionably one of my favorite places in NYC. In a city like ours, a city that never sleeps, never stops, and thrives (as well as breeds) on the rush of sound, light, and novelty, T Shop is an oasis. Tucked away down a long corridor, the moment I step through those glass doors, the weight of the island vanishes, and suddenly the peacefulness that is so easily discarded in my day to day swells within me. There's a few tables if you prefer to brew yourself, seats at a counter if you'd rather be surprised and delighted by Theresa instead, but most importantly, the entire shop is both inviting and genuine. There isn't a tea on the shelf that isn't amazing and you can find something for everyone - though a quick word on the selection: T Shop carries primarily Taiwanese teas, which translates to mostly Oolongs, Pu-erh, and some black teas. Still, there are lovely greener teas, and also a white, and I have always felt that no matter who I brought here, they were sure to find something they liked. And they have! Her teas come from Taiwan, whose terrain (hilly/mountainous) offer many flavor profiles I have not found in mainland Chinese teas. She claims she likes to learn along with you and experience things you might have to offer her. I love that! Bring in a tea from home and have a nice hour long conversation with her! You won't be disappointed. Tea quality is wonderful. No astringency, no dryness, no off flavors. Just smoothness. I can't complain. Prices are great and are what I would call more normal.
