The atmosphere felt welcoming, with people from many different backgrounds enjoying the space. My friend and I each ordered a drink and stayed for a while, as many others were doing. As this is a café, it seemed reasonable to assume that purchasing an item allows you to sit and enjoy the space. Most tables around us were occupied by customers with a single drink - some even shared between two or more people...while they chatted and relaxed. Toward the end of our stay, however, the manager approached us and told us that we "could not do this again." We were genuinely confused (and appalled) and asked for clarification. He explained that it was very busy and crowded and that we had stayed too long with only a drink each. This was surprising, especially since many other patrons appeared to be doing the same. To be fair, it is certainly understandable that businesses, particularly in busy locations- face all-around pressures such as turnover and capacity. I always try to approach businesses and to review with empathy for the challenges that owners and staff deal with on a daily basis. However, in this specific case, the interaction felt unnecessary and poorly handled. There were no visible signs, policies, or guidance indicating time limits or minimum orders. Had such expectations been clearly communicated, we would have respected them without question. Instead, being singled out in this way felt unfair and somewhat disrespectful. This is a disappointing experience to reflect on. I've tried to find a more balanced perspective - perhaps it was an unusually busy day, or external pressures played a role...but it was veryyyyy difficult to overlook how the situation was handled in how we were treated. It is unacceptable and reprehensible. We left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, which ultimately overshadowed the otherwise appealing atmosphere. Mrs. Lee, who runs the shop made me an awesome iced Matcha green tea with oat milk. She asked if I needed sugar. I declined because I'm diabetic. I normally not given that option so I was very happy. I had some time to kill before my next appointment so I was delighted to sit and be chill here. All of the furniture is solid wood. The walls are decorated with Asian themes and symbolism for good luck. The playlist includes oldies and instrumentals. Good place for a coffee break or in my case, a Matcha break. There is barely a light on. Hanging on the wall are old chinese artwork and all of the furniture is near original and a mis-mash of different tables and chairs. This is quite the interesting cafe. There is plenty of seating space which is great. There is a bathroom, outlets, and wifi, so this is definitely a place to sit down and study, and its not too loud, so it is possible to sit down. The menu is vast, and its not like a typical cafe, the menu has boba and plenty of sweats. I ordered a classic waffle, and it was definitely, disappointing, not worth the bang for your buck, but the party of mine enjoyed some of the boba options on the menu. The issue being is you are in an area that is surrounded by other boba shops. There is a minimum for using your credit card (I believe that is 5 dollars). The service was kind and fast, and they were helpful in helping me decide what I should order. Bathroom did not have any paper towels so keep that in mind. What was really interesting to me was the entire game room in the back. It felt out of place, and did not match what I picture for a cafe. There was an entire game room, with really niche card decks for purchase, tables, and boxes of board games, gamers, and other supplies for a very niche population. Popped by here as we were walking a ton and wanted a place to rest and relax for a bit. Silk Road has a lot of seating, which is nice. We saw a few tables studying/using their computers. We got a pot of tea which ran us upwards of $9, so not really a good deal. So honestly I didn't have high hopes for this place. I only went in there since they had seating and I wanted a place to sit with my friends uninterrupted so we could catch up. The staff were nice and you place your order at the cashier. We ordered two Hong Kong style milk tea and one lychee- less ice and less sugar. Well the lychee was okay as per my friend- no strong fruit flavor. The real disappointment was the Hong Kong milk tea. Got a dried passion fruit tea pot which was surprisingly refreshing and sweet. I asked for it iced which costs an extra 50 cents. It comes in a glass tea pot with mini glass tea cups. However this particular one could not be any more friendly if it tried, and I don't think it has tried to be more friendly because it's already perfectly friendly. I'm not a huge fan of the Boba here, but some of the other drinks are excellent and the decor is absolutely lovely. All in all, it's one of the nicest places to hang out in Chinatown. I would recommend coming in here to anybody, but maybe skip the bubble tea because I'm a huge fan of Bubble Tea in general, and this isn't some of the best stuff that you'll find. The 5 star is specifically for the lovely service, great decor, and products in general other than the Boba. I've been here a few times, but on this last visit when I ordered a HK milk tea, they gave me regular light milk tea. When I asked them about it they acted like I didn't understand what it was and tried to explain that what they served me was normal... But I frequently order the same drink from other local places, and I used to live in HK! Maybe their herbal teas are worth it, but this totally tasted like Lipton tea bags and milk. If you sit near the front entrance, you get a nice area to people watch and also it's quite bright to study ! $10 for tea sounds expensive but they give you a POT and you also get *free refill* (score!) So if you're planning to study and stay for a couple of hours or so, you can order hot loose tea leaves and you can always refill!
