    Lunch special menu Jan 2025
    Loren P.

I was in Galt for the annual winter bird festival this weekend and wanted to have some lunch before I headed over to attend the keynote talk. I didn't want to head to Elk Grove so this place caught my eye while sifting through dining options. There are not many options in Galt anyway, but T2yan piqued my interest as I haven't had Chinese-American food in a hot minute. With the mixed reviews, I set my expectations and bar low. It was a rainy day so I was able to find a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. It is located in the same strip mall as Raley's and conveniently located by the 99 and Twin Cities Rd. Upon entering T2yan, I noticed that it was very clean, cozy, yet spacious, with plenty of seating. Aside from a few other people dining in, I was the only other customer. I was seated quickly and handed the lunch special menu. I found it amusing that they even served cocktails. As you can see in my attached photo, the layout of the menu was quite modernized compared to other Chinese-American menus I'm used to, but I liked how each of the lunch special items had photos next to them. I also noticed that the lunch specials came with either fried rice or chow mein, so when I ordered my Mongolian beef lunch special, I asked if I could do half and half. It was a $3 upgrade to do so, which I was fine with paying. I also didn't have a choice of soup for my lunch special, so when it arrived, I was intrigued. It was very homey and not a soup I've ever had in any lunch special. It was a tomato-based soup with some crumbles of pork (?) in it, but it was comforting and I finished my bowl. However, I wish I could have had hot and sour soup instead. Shortly after, my lunch special arrived, and it was a heaping plate of deliciousness. The noodles were excellent, and the Mongolian beef was sooo flavorful. I did not like the fried rice as much, and I had to add soy sauce to it as it wasn't very seasoned (which I don't normally do). The rice was also older (which is fine for fried rice), but it was a little harder than usual. The egg roll was fine, but nothing to write home about. Now knowing about the condition of the fried rice, I will probably not upgrade to half and half again. I did not finish my food and what I took home was a perfect amount for leftovers the next day. The service was standard, and my total before tip was approximately $18, which was a little pricey for Chinese-American food, especially a lunch special, but given the limited options that Galt has, I am not mad about it. While I do not see myself returning to Galt in the foreseeable future, as there's not much to do there, if I am ever in the area again, I would be down to try some other lunch specials (and their hot and sour soup).

Orange scallops and prawns, chicken fried rice & crab Rangoon

The food was excellent, and the service was great! We had the orange scallops with prawns, the chicken, fried rice, and an appetizer of the crab Rangoon. Everything was wonderful.

Quaint restaurant hidden on Twin Cities wedged between Mountain Mikes, the Kids Club afterschool care and a dental office. The inside is very clean with a beautiful salt water tank that holds breathtaking fish. Let me get to the food, I did a pickup order which included a combo plate with honey chicken, fried rice and chow mein. It was a nice sized serving can't complain about that. The fried rice was just okay, a bit dry with more oil taste than anything else. The honey chicken is deep fried in a thick batter but there's no real honey taste to it, not to me. The chow mein was also just ordinary, nothing that sets it apart from any other chow mein. Greasy and like it had been sitting all afternoon. On the bright side the potstickers were delicious although a bit greasy as well. Last was the best part of my order, honey walnut shrimp. Looked more like prawns to me and with a lot of meat. Slices of pineapple and the candied walnuts with the mayo based sauce that was so yummy. I suppose I'm just waiting on a Chinese restaurant to wow me and no one has been able to thus far. I have to keep trying restaurants until I find the "one".

If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, this place is a must-try. My favorite dish is the salt and pepper fish, perfectly seasoned, and crispy on the outside while tender on the inside. All the vegetable (chef's specials) dishes were also packed with flavor. The location is super convenient, just off Freeway 99, which makes it an easy stop whether you're local or just passing through. I'll definitely be coming back again.

My opinion is that this is the best Chinese food in Galt. No skimping on meat! Balanced and not soaked with oil.

Just enjoy spice and it's very flavorful. Definitely pre order again. Bbq oysters were great, the sauce they put in top is fantastic. Sizzling house hot plate, lots of vegetables and the waitress does it right in front of us. I was too busy eating my delicious crawfish and didn't get to record it. But it was great. Sesame chicken was the right amount of sweet and sesame. We also ordered the Hong Kong style chow main because we love the crunchy noodles, just the right amount of sauce and flavor and the chicken wing, very crunchy and the kids loved it! They finished it before I get to have one. Definitely will go back again with the family. Staffs are friendly and answered all our questions. Great work team!

There is both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit inside, and the indoor space is beautifully done with vaulted wood ceilings, exposed beams, warm lighting, and comfortable cushioned seating that makes it easy to settle in. The chairs were genuinely comfortable, which is not always a given. From what we could see, the outdoor seating looks equally inviting, especially with the string lights, open views, and waterfront setting. I can imagine it being especially nice at sunset or on a warm evening. We started with potstickers that tasted homemade and were excellent. They came out hot with a flavorful dipping sauce and disappeared quickly. For drinks, my partner ordered a lemon drop that was bright and well balanced. I asked for a whiskey sour, which wasn't on the menu, but they were happy to make one for me. It was decent, though not as memorable as the lemon drop. For dinner, we ordered General Tso's chicken, snow pea chicken, and rice. Both dishes were outstanding. The General Tso's sauce was perfectly executed, flavorful without being overly sweet, and the chicken was tender with a crisp coating. Even the broccoli was cooked just right, still slightly crunchy but fully done. The snow pea chicken had a lighter, savory sauce and was equally well prepared. Service was attentive throughout the evening. Our drinks were refreshed promptly, the food came out in good time, and a woman who appeared to be one of the partners stopped by our table to check on us personally. She was warm and engaging and mentioned they serve the best Chinese food in the Sacramento and Delta region. After the meal we had, that claim felt justified. Even the restrooms were clean and thoughtfully maintained, which is always a good sign. Between the quality of the food, the comfortable setting, and the inviting Delta atmosphere, this is absolutely a place we would return to. We don't give out five stars lightly, but this one earned it.

If they had a different vegetarian dumpling flavor to choose from for a little variety, that would be awesome, but for now I'm well pleased with what they do have. We have thus far only ordered take out, and have not dined in. I've tried and liked the vegetarian versions of the egg roll, potsticker, dumpling, and steamed bao so far. The bao veggie filling is different than the dumpling filling, and it's very delicious. They have standard Chinese dishes in addition, but I have not ventured far into the rest of the menu. Unfortunately I cannot as of yet share whether any of this, or the dipping sauces are vegan friendly. Hopefully on a future visit I can find out and report. The dishes I have so far mentioned are vegetarian friendly. Not sure on the dipping sauces. Possibly? The price is pretty decent for what you get. One order of bao or dumplings is plenty for two people. They are about $13 each. I like how the takeout containers come in a reusable canvas bag. Ordering over the phone has been smooth each time. So, we keep coming back when the hankering hits, braving what can be a busy parking lot.
