Iconic for Galt residents. Been going here since high school and the vibe is still the same. Super chill and solid rolls. Just got it last weekend and it definitely filled the craving. My go to is the forever mama or super rainbow. They are great for takeout or dine in. Parking is a bit cramped but along the back where cafe latte there are more doors and street parking. Rolls are HUGE and stuffed with yummy flavors and toppings. Very thankful to have a good sushi spot on that side of town and love to see that they are still going strong. read more

Been going to Mama's Sushi since I was in middle school. It's such a great place to eat at and the owners are always so nice. They seemed to have gotten new plates and other things for the restaurant which is nice. They're always super busy but never lack on great customer service. My sushi is always fresh and prepared just the way I like it. Love their Lion King roll and their Dragon roll! Perfect place to have a nice quiet dinner with friends and family. read more

Food was pretty good rolls are very big and bulky with good flavor. Lunch special is a a great deal any will plus chicken teriyaki and rice for $16.99. It wasn't the top tier but it was good overall. We were in Galt for a basketball tournament and decided to try out Mama's. Small place with a loud kitchen which kinda made it more fun. The staff was very friendly and the menu pretty large. The prices might have been a bit high but I understand being possibly the only sushi in town it allows for a bit of a markup. With that being said, the prices were appropriately set for the size of the rolls and the taste and quality. Certainly was impressed with the taste and value we got. I dont know that I will be back simply for the fact that I dont frequent Galt much BUT should we be back in the area and craving sushi i know where we will be going. read more

Very confused about this place. Says open on the window & walk in to get a table at 4:15pm on Monday & they ask me if I'm with the people in front of me, I say no & they say we're closed. The hours say open until 9pm on yelp. Do t count on them for an early dinner & do t count on human kindness here either, just blunt. Rude. The people in front of me said they are only open for take out right now, which was kinder than what the man behind the counter offered today. I don't suspect I'll return. Went next door & had some great Mexican seafood instead & that service was fast & friendly. read more

I found this little gem when I was parked at Savemart across the street. I first went to Savemart to buy stuff to make Sushi because there wasn't many sushi restaurants open during Covid19. I then noticed the sign across the street that said "Open" and the word Sushi right next to it. I drive on over and take a peep. Yay sushi is open! Parking around here didn't seem too bad...the lot was fairly spacious, but im unsure how it would be during a normal and busy business day. There was one man working in there when I walked in (safety precautions for Covid19). I look over the menu as he patiently waits for me to decide what I want (the menu has a variety of things and over 15 sushi rolls). I ordered the Stuffed Mushrooms, a sushi roll, and a sashimi and nigiri mix. He took down my order, smiled, and walked over to the kitchen. He didn't mention when it would've been done so I just stood there and eventually waited outside. I'd say 5 to 8 minutes after waiting outside I go back in and my order is ready. The pricing here is pretty pricey but I would say it's worth it for fresh fish, tasty and fairly large sushi, and stuffed mushrooms. I will be back one day! read more

The first time I went to Mama's a few years back I was skeptical, I mean who thinks of Galt and Sushi? I was pleasantly surprised. The quality was definitely there and the rolls were pretty legit. We've been here a handful of times. Our most recent trip in a bit of time was last night. I noticed that they re-did their menu and they stepped up their game. Rolls were even better than we had last time and they have such a HUGE selection, honestly probably a few too many cause they eventually all start to look the same. However, there is basically something for even the pickiest of eaters. We ordered a the Sushi Mix (Nigiri Mix, 9pcs chefs choice) to share. I love nigiri because its no fuss and simple but a great way to really see the quality of fish an establishment uses without having to cover it up with a ton of crazy sauces and Mama's doesn't disappoint. I ordered the Crazy Horse Roll which was very yummy but HUGE! I had a hard time eating it because the pieces were so big. Hubby ordered the Hwy 99 roll and loved it as well. Service is great as well, everyone is always so nice and welcoming. They also help eat other out so that definitely improves the experience because you never go long without getting what you need. Oh mama, from my many many visits, my score has gone from 4/5, to 3/5 and today it is finally my last visit, landing my review with a sad 2/5. Let's get into how and why this happened. The sushi is very good, the menu has a lot to choose from and I have never been disappointed by the food it's self, and at one point in time the service seemed decent. But with my repeated visits over time I have noticed the following: The server is burnt out, I know this because when he first started working here he smiled and was attentive to the needs of the customer (while being the only server here mind you, no matter how busy it got). Now he does not smile, answers in short sentences, and continues to advise the cooks to push food out by priority. Now let's get into the kitchen and why my score is so low. The kitchen staff are not attentive, they are not fast, and they are not polite. To-go orders will come in, order and leave before your food will reach you. The server will say something to the cook and it will be ignored as I have witnessed many many times. It has gotten to the point where the server does not apologize, I'm sure he got tired of explaining over and over and apologizing on behalf of the staff in the back. In conclusion, I would come here for the food if you're willing to wait for 45-60 minutes, the food is good but simply not worth it for me anymore. I started out not really liking this place a few years ago. I am picky about my sushi restaurants how clean they are the smell and obviously quality of food. They always had the quality of food down, and the customer services. I couldn't get over the appearance and smell and now they have remodeled which shows they care. BBQ Albacore is by far my favorite dish here. Very flavorful... We love the Sex in the City Roll and Spicy Killer (have that drink ready) this one will knock your socks off! I am only giving it a one star because I have to. I am a sushi lover but usually always hit the places in Sacramento. I have lived in town for sometime now, and I was told by some locals this was a good place for sushi. So today, on my way to work I decided to call in my order and pick up. Although the staff was very friendly and welcoming it is not clean. I saw plates full of prepared food left on a tiny sink waiting to be used by the man preparing the sushi. He was coughing and sniffling and had his mask pulled down which grossed me out quite a bit. I only paid for the food because I was already there and felt bad because they were so kind, but it's so unclean I will not be returning. That aside the food was not great either. As always the wall of text with a Tldr at the bottom. Hands down my favorite sushi restaurant in the Sacramento area. Its a smaller venue but I feel it adds to the atmosphere as its very warm and inviting. The rolls are reasonably priced and come with soup and salad if you dine in. The salad is simple but its always fresh and has an amazing peanut sauce that I haven't found anywhere else. They tend to serve miso soup and the flavor is always great. Their appetizers are prtty stellar as well, Id recomend the mamas mushrooms. As for the sushi itself it ranges from simple nigiri/sashimi to elaborate hand rolls. All of the hand rolls are winners in my book so I tend to try something different each visit but the Crazy Dr. Is my personal favorite. All in all this is wonderful location that I hope to enjoy for years to come. Tldr, excellent sushi joint that deserves a visit if your in the area. read more

First I have to say this was the strangest dining experience I have ever had. My nine-year-old daughter wanted sushi so we decided to give this place a try. When we walked in we noticed there were people at three tables. Two had already been served and one couple had menus. We stood at the door for over five minutes as we weren't sure if we should seat ourselves or wait for someone to seat us. The sushi chef is right there by the front door but he never acknowledged us. There were two women behind the counter as well as one waiter and none of them greeted us or even looked in our direction. Finally, I decided to just pick a table and we sat down next to the couple who had menus. We could immediately hear them discussing whether they should just get up and leave because apparently they had been there quite a while. Out of curiosity, I turned on the stopwatch on my cell phone. Nine minutes later the waiter came to take their order and after he did, he picked up their two menus and put them down on our table without saying a word. This one waiter was taking phone orders and helping people who came in to pick up orders to go. He also spent a great deal of time arguing with the sushi chef about one of the rolls in a to-go order that he thought was made incorrectly. My daughter began to ask if we could just go across the street to Denny's because she was hungry. Just under 20 minutes later the waiter came back to take our order. Eight minutes later we got our miso soup and salad, which we both agreed was very good, but it was another 16 minutes before we got our entrées. I ordered the titanic roll which was very good. I also ordered tuna and salmon nigiri, which wasn't melt-in-your-mouth good like our usual place, but it was OK. The rice was very firm and dry. My daughter ordered the vegetable tempura roll which was very hard for her to eat. The pieces were larger than silver dollars. They were huge and they fell apart when she tried to pick them up. She also had a California roll, which she didn't really care for. She said it had a very strong taste that "just screamed crab." For the rest of the evening we joked with each other about how we got more conversation out of the screaming crab than anyone else that worked in this place. We were there forever and the entire time not one of them smiled or said a word to anyone other than "are you ready to order?" It was a very bizarre experience and we were left with the feeling we were inconveniencing them by being there. Their priorities seemed to be phone orders and people coming in to pick up orders, as their in-house customers were ignored for very long periods of time. They definitely need another server.
